Being so centrally located, there is an enormous variety of activities and places to visit within easy reach...
To the west, the gorgeous Atlantic beaches are right on the doorstep as well as the historic old seaport of La Rochelle and the glamorous islands of Ile de Re, Oleron and Aix.
To the east are the beautiful towns along the Charente river, including the historic old towns of Saintes and Cognac.
A short drive to the north, is the Loire Valley with its magnificent Chateaux
To the south, there are the beautiful rolling hills of the Dordogne as well as the vineyards of Bordeaux.
So whether you go north, south, east or west - and everywhere in between - there is just so much for the whole family to do and see whilst on holiday at Les Capucines!
If you feel more like relaxing, there is a very large terraced swimming pool which is bathed in sunshine from dawn to dusk and surrounded by mature, well laid out gardens.
In addition each farmhouse cottage has its own barbecue (ready to fire up) as well as table and chairs for 'alfresco' dining.
Facilities include a large under cover games area with table tennis, table football, magnetic darts and a selection of bicycles for local use.
There is also a guest store-room with an extensive DVD library, boules, footballs, a cricket set, inflatables (plus pump), tennis & badminton racquets as well as lounge cushions and umbrellas for the pool.
Near the pool is a popular kids play area which has a slide, sandpit, picnic table, swings and a ride-on tractor to keep the little ones occupied.
In addition to the large areas of manicured and private gardens there is also a communal 'veggie patch' for guests to help themselves to tomatoes, courgettes, peppers, lettuce, strawberries, blackberries, basil and mint and whatever else is available at the time.
New to Les Capucines is an in-room massage facility (with a fully trained masseuse) which will be available for guests after long drives, bike rides, walks, swims or just because they feel like being pampered!
So whatever you and your family and friends are looking for in a French holiday, Les Capucines can deliver - and so much more!
We are from Sydney, Australia and have visited France regularly over the years. When the opportunity arose for both of us to change our careers, we decided to come to France and combine our love of all things French with being able to offer the perfect setting for others to enjoy a wonderful holiday.
There is nothing we love more than seeing the expressions on guests' faces when they arrive at Les Capucines as it really is very difficult to convey the luxury and spaciousness of the property with only limited website photos! "The photos and website don't do it justice" is a phrase we so often hear.
We certainly aim to over deliver, which we believe is the best way not only to ensure guests return but also have them tell their friends about their great holiday experience.
Mark Henderson purchased this farmhouse in 2014
When my wife and I were looking for a gite property in 2013 we visited over 25 different complexes all over France. Les Capucines was by far the most luxurious, well equipped and most centrally located property that we visited.
The Charente Maritime area of France is the second sunniest (after the Cote d'Azur) as well as being extremely attractive, relatively undiscovered and unspoilt. The range of activities are many and varied and there are so many things to see and do whether you are young or old, active or more relaxed.
There are a number of fabulous places to visit - ranging from sandy beaches, to historical towns, to rolling countryside and vineyards.
The Charente Maritime is also home to some great local produce - in particular, oysters and shellfish, mussels, Cognac, Pineau Charente, cheese and wine.
Les Capucines, is a beautiful old 17th century Charentaise farmhouse which has been lovingly restored and converted into our summer home & luxury holiday property.
Les Capucines is easy to reach by air, sea or road, with most of the budget airlines now flying to La Rochelle from just about everywhere in the UK, and is centrally located to so many places and activities.
From the golden beaches of the Atlantic 20 minutes to the west, the historic old towns and villages along the Charente river to the east, to the Chateaux of the Loire to the north as well as the rolling countryside of the Dordogne and the vineyards of Bordeaux to the south ... plus everywhere in between!
There is just so much to do for the whole family when you holiday at Les Capucines.
Everything is provided for that perfect relaxing holiday, including in-room massage and 'starter supplies' for your cottage when you first arrive...you really only need to bring your clothes and good company!
Les Capucines has continually built a strong following of guests who have come back year after year, some of whom are now seen more as friends than guests.
A £150 security deposit is also required which will refunded within 7 days from the end of the holiday, subject to any deductions, such as damages, breakages or excess cleaning charges that might occur.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Les Capucines. Our gîte was clean, comfortable and well equipped, complete with stunning views over the countryside. Mark and Margy were the perfect hosts and were especially helpful in helping to make the most of our holiday with suggestions on places to visit. Île de Ré, La Rochelle and Rochefort are just a few of the many places that are within easy reach by car. Meaning lots of opportunities for shopping, sight seeing and relaxing. Royan and Fouras both have beautiful sandy beaches and are well worth a visit. We visited when the weather was especially hot so the pool was a very welcome addition and was always kept clean and tidy throughout our stay. We would definitely recommend Les Capucines and hope to come back in the near future!
Thank you again, Mark and Margy.
We spent a lovely cosy few weeks in Le Grenier, with its beautiful wooden beams and exposed stonework. The views over the manicured gardens and the countryside beyond were quite spectacular and the peace and tranquillity was just what we needed.
We also enjoy lazing around the lovely large and sunny pool as well as the alfresco dining and BBQs and found it hard to drag ourselves away! When we did we found the Charente-Maritime area offered so much in the way of activities and places to visit and explore, for which Les Capucines is so perfectly located. We also enjoyed many day trips further afield including the wine districts of Bordeaux as well the chateaux of the Loire Valley.
A truly memorable holiday and we will definitely be back!
Wow, what a find! We had such a wonderful stay at Les Capucines over the summer, with plenty of rest and relaxation (the pool is a dream!) Our gite Le Grenier was really well presented and very cosy with everything we needed. The bedroom overlooked the beautiful gardens with lots of space for midsummer BBQs at night. It even has a veggie patch! Margy was very kind in offering us some of her delicious homemade tomato chutney. When we were in the mood for something a little more adventurous, the buzzing region of Charente Maritime is only a short drive away and had some great markets, cafes, restaurants etc. Very authentically french, lots of friendly locals always happy to help and say hello. Already dreaming about our next visit in 2016! Thank you again to Mark and Margy, we felt so at home and have definitely found ourselves a new favourite holiday spot.
Our dealings with Mark & Margy Henderson were fine right from the start with prompt responses to emails and clear instructions on how to get their.
We were met on arrival and given a full introduction to the property which was exactly as described and very well appointed.
The information provided on where to go and what to see was exceptional and very well presented a nice touch was all the destinations had an approximate driving time rather than just distance.
Mark and Margy were friendly and attentive without being in your face.
A thoroughly enjoyable week and highly recommended.
