Being so centrally located, there is an enormous variety of activities and places to visit within easy reach...
To the west, the gorgeous Atlantic beaches are right on the doorstep as well as the historic old seaport of La Rochelle and the glamorous islands of Ile de Re, Oleron and Aix.
To the east are the beautiful towns along the Charente river, including the historic old towns of Saintes and Cognac.
A short drive to the north, is the Loire Valley with its magnificent Chateaux
To the south, there are the beautiful rolling hills of the Dordogne as well as the vineyards of Bordeaux.
So whether you go north, south, east or west - and everywhere in between - there is just so much for the whole family to do and see whilst on holiday at Les Capucines!
If you feel more like relaxing, there is a very large terraced swimming pool which is bathed in sunshine from dawn to dusk and surrounded by mature, well laid out gardens.
In addition each farmhouse cottage has its own barbecue (ready to fire up) as well as table and chairs for 'alfresco' dining.
Facilities include a large under cover games area with table tennis, table football, magnetic darts and a selection of bicycles for local use.

So whatever you and your family and friends are looking for in a French holiday, Les Capucines can deliver - and so much more!
We are from Sydney, Australia and have visited France regularly over the years. When the opportunity arose for both of us to change our careers, we decided to come to France and combine our love of all things French with being able to offer the perfect setting for others to enjoy a wonderful holiday.
There is nothing we love more than seeing the expressions on guests' faces when they arrive at Les Capucines as it really is very difficult to convey the luxury and spaciousness of the property with only limited website photos! "The photos and website don't do it justice" is a phrase we so often hear.
We certainly aim to over deliver, which we believe is the best way not only to ensure guests return but also have them tell their friends about their great holiday experience.
Mark Henderson purchased this farmhouse in 2014
When my wife and I were looking for a gite property in 2013 we visited over 25 different complexes all over France. Les Capucines was by far the most luxurious, well equipped and most centrally located property that we visited.
The Charente Maritime area of France is the second sunniest (after the Cote d'Azur) as well as being extremely attractive, relatively undiscovered and unspoilt. The range of activities are many and varied and there are so many things to see and do whether you are young or old, active or more relaxed.
There are a number of fabulous places to visit - ranging from sandy beaches, to historical towns, to rolling countryside and vineyards.
The Charente Maritime is also home to some great local produce - in particular, oysters and shellfish, mussels, Cognac, Pineau Charente, cheese and wine.
Les Capucines, is a beautiful old 17th century Charentaise farmhouse which has been lovingly restored and converted into our summer home & luxury holiday property.
Les Capucines is easy to reach by air, sea or road, with most of the budget airlines now flying to La Rochelle from just about everywhere in the UK, and is centrally located to so many places and activities.
From the golden beaches of the Atlantic 20 minutes to the west, the historic old towns and villages along the Charente river to the east, to the Chateaux of the Loire to the north as well as the rolling countryside of the Dordogne and the vineyards of Bordeaux to the south ... plus everywhere in between!
There is just so much to do for the whole family when you holiday at Les Capucines.
Everything is provided for that perfect relaxing holiday, including in-room massage and 'starter supplies' for your cottage when you first arrive...you really only need to bring your clothes and good company!
Les Capucines has continually built a strong following of guests who have come back year after year, some of whom are now seen more as friends than guests.
The very best of luck in your new venture Mark & Margy and thank you both so much for such a warm welcoming stay at Les Capucines. We loved just about everything - including the fabulous thunderstorm on our last night.
We would sincerely love to come back and stay in this beautiful part of France.
This is a delightful gite, very well-maintained and with the most helpful hosts you could possibly wish for. Great restaurant not very far away and lots of places to visit in the area.
We arrived at Les Capucines after a very busy week of Watersports in the South of France and we had the most wonderfully relaxing week. Mark and Margy are fantastic hosts. La Grange is extremely comfortable and well equipped. We loved the private garden with BBQ , the gorgeous shared pool with its sunny terrace and there is plenty to see and do in the area. Everything was extremely well organised and clean and we would certainly come back!
La Grange was everything we were expecting and more, the gite contained every creature comfort you could wish for and more! The kitchen is very well equipped. It was very clean and extremely well maintained, perfect for our family, 3 adults and two teenage children. It was lovely to be staying somewhere where the beds were so comfortable with lovely crisp sheets. Outside the gite is a lovely garden with BBQ and table and chairs.
We particularly enjoyed the pool, it's kept very clean, it is within a walled and securely gated area, there is a lovely terraced area with sun loungers, the temperature was 28*c everyday. Nearby is a shady area for those who wish to keep out of the sun but still enjoy the pool. Kept near to the pool are inflatable toys, cushions for the sun loungers and sun umbrellas.
We visited Ille De Re, the island has some beautiful villages and delicious ice creams. Rochefort, shopping and sightseeing, we enjoyed a lovely meal at La Cap Nell over looking the mariner. We had a day at Futuroscope which was great fun, as with all parks it involved a lot of walking and queuing (we discovered that you can use Tesco vouchers for Furturoscope). Fouras is a small town with lovely shops and cafes.
Each day we visited the bakery in Lussant, only a 5 minute drive away, lovely bread and delicious sweet and savoury pastries.
We had a fabulous holiday, Mark and Margy were wonderful hosts, we will return next year and will most certainly be recommending Les Capucines to our family and friends.
Three generations of our family enjoyed a wonderful holiday in La Grange at Les Capucines. La Grange is very comfortable, very well equipped and maintained. It is located in a delightful and interesting area of France. We had super weather during our stay and were able to use the superb pool and the other outside facilities to good advantage. Our hosts Mark and Margy were very welcoming and helpful ensuring that we got the most out of our holiday. We hope to return soon and would thoroughly recommend this gite.
Having searched extensively for the ideal holiday villa in France to suit our family of 7 (with children ranging in age from 17 down to 3), we nervously settled on Le Marronier, near Rochefort. On arrival (couldn't have been easier to find), we were delighted with the warm reception of our hosts, Mark & Margy, and the beautiful standard of our Villa, and that of our friends (L'Ecurie), joining us the following day. Everything was as described on the web listing - very well-kept pool and sun decking, comfortable bed-linen, and immaculate mature gardens. The estate is surrounded by the most beautiful expansive fields of Sunflowers, wheat and Corn - a real hide-away spot!! Car essential though!
Funds providing, we would love to return to Les Capucines for another very relaxing and peaceful break from the treadmill.
Les Capucines is a large17th century stone farmhouse which has been nicely converted into three adjoining rental properties, incorporating former stables/barn and the thick walls means that little sound penetrates. We stayed in Le Marronnier which has one downstairs bedroom, with a large, comfortable bed and two upstairs bedrooms for a party of six. It also possesses a large well-equipped kitchen accommodating a large farmhouse table ideal for family meals with an adjoining comfortable lounge. Upstairs there is a bathroom with a shower cubicle, whilst downstairs is a bathroom containing a short bath with a stepped base, although we found this a bit awkward for standing in to shower, so it was best to go upstairs.
Le Marronnier is away from the road, faces south and gets the sun a lot. Outside is a gravel terrace/path with benches opposite a pleasant garden behind a hedge. In the garden is a large table and barbeque. The good-sized, walled swimming pool is a short stroll away and has plenty of loungers.
Our hosts Mark and Margy have only been running the place for a few months but are very knowledgeable about the area and as you would expect of Aussies, very friendly.
We all agreed that we would be happy to have another holiday at Les Capucines.
