La Vieille Maison, Restored Farmhouse with Heated Pool, Gardens and Games Room

Updated: 06-Oct-2016
La Vieille Maison in St Juire Champgillon, Nr. Chantonnay, Vendee - Tranquil Location, Ideal for Country Walks and Cycling

La Vieille Maison was restored by the current owners and is now presented as a high quality two bedroom holiday home with lots of original features, such as exposed oak beams, stone walls and an ancient wash tub!

The house is set in a village location - with restaurant, bar, hairdresser and weekly summer market all nearby.

There are large landscaped gardens (5000m²) and a gravelled courtyard with an al fresco dining area. The 10m x 5m heated pool and paddling pool are securely fenced off from the rest of the garden, and there are sun loungers and views across the level gardens and flower beds.

Inside there is a comfortable lounge, with wood burner for the cooler winter months, TV with UK free-to-air satellite TV channels, dvd player and Wi-Fi internet access is available in the house.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, electric oven and gas hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee maker, and there is a separate utility area at the back of the house with a washing machine and WC.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms – one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. Both have en suite shower rooms.

A cot, high chair and stair gates are available for younger children.

This is an ideal base from which to explore the Vendee - with many country lanes that are great for walking & cycling, and lots of other activities nearby - such as the Puy du Fou Theme Park, The forest & lake at Mervent, The Marais Poitevin and the medieval Donjon at Bazoges. And of course, there are the miles of sandy beaches along the Vendee coastline, which are great for surfing, relaxing, rock pools and tasting the locally caught seafood.

This house can also be rented with our other 5 bedroom holiday home - La Maison en Pierre, which shares the pool, gardens and games room.

Rachael, Stephen, Gracie & Nancy. Bath. July 2014

Thank you very much for letting us stay in this beautiful countryside. We enjoyed feeding the chickens and it was very generous of you to give us you home-grown vegetables. We went to beaches which had waves to surf on, and Puy du Fou which had wonderful shows and re-enactments of medieval times. The swimming pool was fabulous on a hot day and cooled you down. Thank you again.

We loved going in the swimming pool. It was nice & hot and good for swimming. And good toys to play with. Thank you for giving us some plums & peaches, also strawberries. Love from Nancy (6).

Sally, James & Jay - Pudsey August 2013

Thank you, for the third consecutive year, for looking after us so well!!

We had a lovely time (Ile de Ré, Puy de Fou, Bourgenay, etc) and lovely weather, over all, too this year. As ever, Jay has loved it (the pool, the playroom and chatting to you both - and Rosie the cat). See you next year!

Clare, Neil, Emily & Eva, Ashford. August 2013

Thank you for making us feel so welcome (and for the drinks!) You have created an idyllic place here with everything families need, and more. We especially loved just relaxing by the pool. The hammock was a big hit with Neil and it was so lovely to see Emily collecting eggs from the chickens and picking fresh fruit & veg from the garden. Eva loved the slide(even if she did climb up the wrong way!) The monkey!! We had a wonderful evening at the St Georges restaurant, just 5 mins walk from the house and amazing food. Already booked for next year and can’t wait!! See you then.

Absolutely perfect for a family of 4!

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful property finished to a high standard equipped with everything that you could possibly need. Set in beautiful grounds with a veggie patch and chickens for your daily fresh eggs you really couldn't ask for more. Great internet access meant that my sons could use their phones and iPads not only in the Gite but also by the pool. But what really makes this place special are the owners Jan and Mick who can't do enough for you. We enjoyed our holiday so much and with so much still to see in the area we have rebooked for next year and we have never done that before! The Harper Family :)

Lovely holiday property

  • 5 of 5

We loved our holiday at La Vieille Maison. We have visited France almost every year for the last 30 years and this property is hard to beat. We believe that the photos do not do it justice. Jan & Mick have thought of everything! The pool is warm, the paddling pool is a fabulous addition for youngsters and the playroom is a real treat. The house is clean and comfortable, each bedroom having an ensuite bathroom. The grounds are lovely with colourful flower displays, a vegetable plot for the use of visitors and fresh eggs from the chickens. We were welcomed by the owners who were never intrusive but always helpful. It's a short drive to a range of beautiful beaches and the weather was great. We can recommend this property unreservedly!

Lovely relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

Property was clean and comfortable and very well equipped beyond what would normally be expected. There were toys for the pool, bikes to use, rackets and other games plus board games, books etc. Also eggs from the chickens and fruit and vegetables from the garden. Owners were very friendly and helpful, the pool was lovely and warm and there was plenty of space in the garden to play games. We also had a great day at the beach and a delicious meal at the local restaurant. The owners' home-made liquors were particularly appreciated!

So sad to leave...

  • 5 of 5

We were a large family party and rented La Vieille Maison in tandem with its sister property, La Maison en Pierre. La Vielle Maison has been loving restored and provides everything needed for a wonderful holiday.

The gardens and pool are wonderful and the owners Jan and Mick are so welcoming. Truly wonderful people who let us raid their veggie patch and collect fresh eggs from their chickens as well as share their wonderful homemade liqueurs with us.

The house is in a lovely village, close to good amenities and with a beautiful restaurant within walking distance. All in all, just perfect.

From the Owner

La Vieille Maison is owned by Mick & Jan who came to France in the summer of 2005. Having renovated, and in some cases, pretty much re-built 3 houses in the UK, they decided to give it a go in France, so in March 2005 they started house-hunting. By May they had found just what they were looking for, although on a little larger scale than they were used to in the south of England! Without any doubts, they quit their hectic jobs, sold their home in the UK and embarked on their new life here in rural France. Mick & Jan live in the huge barn next door, and are currently finishing its renovation. The holiday property rentals are managed by Annette & Jason.

From the Owner

Mick & Jan love the relaxed lifestyle that goes with village life here in the Vendee. Mick has taken to brewing his own beer and making some great liqueurs with the fruit that grows in the garden - often shared with guests! Jan spends a lot of time tending the vegetable garden and feeding the chickens - and loves to take the children down at feeding time. There are also a couple of donkeys in the village that love to be fed by the children. The whole property and village has a relaxed atmosphere and guests leave feeling like they've had a holiday to remember!
