Cottage in Lerryn, Fowey Cornwall, England - Idyllic Location, Near Fowey, Excellent for Kayaking, Swimming, Walking, Local Pub, Village Shop.
Pentye is a recently converted former boat store/ shed, with lots of luxury touches. It is tucked in beside the wall of an old lime Kiln, right on the banks of the river Lerryn. You can kayak or even swim straight from the lawn at high tide. At lower tides you can park on the small lane right outside, which runs alongside the river's edge. There are fantastic walks straight from the door, a booklet in the house lists lots of riverside circular walks. The ancient woodland just along from the house was said to be the inspiration for Kenneth Grahame's book 'Wind in the Willows'. You can hire kayaks from Golant who will deliver them and kayak from the house to St Winnow, Fowey or Lostwithiel, or simply mess about on the river and take a picnic for the day. It is ideal for artists and bird watching Alternatively Fowey is about 15 mins by car via the Boddinick ferry. There is a good local shop within a few steps of the house, which sells wine, beer, local cider, take away pasties and a wide range of groceries, so no need to leave if you don't want to. There is also a pub in Lerryn which has great cornish beer on draught and they do a fab bowl of Fowey mussels and chips, they can also rustle up take away fish and chips. The ancient town of Lostwithiel is 3 miles away which has lots of wonderful antique shops, cafes, pubs and a small supermarket. The Duchy Nursery is just outside Lostwithiel with an excellent range of plants and a really well worth visiting cafe, with delicious food. The Eden Project is only 8 miles, The National Trust's Lanhydrock House and the fishing villages of Looe and Polperro a short drive.
There are many good food places to eat out in Cornwall from the nearby Sam's on the beach at Polkerris to a bit further afield for Rick Stein's and Paul Ainsworth's in Padstow. you wont be bored.....so much to do and see!

A weekend to remember!
This is a heavenly little cottage. We fell in love with it the moment we walked through the door. It is warm and snug and beautifully furnished. From the lovely bedding to the bottle of wine in the fridge and the fabulous coffee, it is impossible not to enjoy your stay here. If you are looking for peace and tranquility in an idyllic setting on the banks of the river Lerryn, look no further. Oh and I haven't even mentioned the village shop with the still-warm chocolate brownies, the local pub, the kayaking, the circular walks, the kingfishers, the cream teas.....
Stunning hideaway in a beautiful location
Pentye is an absolutely stunning little property. We had a fantastic week staying in the community - which was incredibly welcoming - and staying at such a beautifully furnished holiday home. It's the perfect backdrop for a hideaway. Everything is well thought out from the picnic set in the cupboard through to the phone for when you realise mobiles don't get signal (bliss!). We loved our stay and are already planning our return. It's a real home away from home. We'd recommend to anyone that asks.
A beautifully and tasefully furnished little place, right beside the creek. Watching the tide come in and out, the bird and boating activity, from the window or sitting on the little balcony ....perfect
Dont tell too many people though : )
ps ....thankyou for the lovely wine and biscuits
Unique and charming in a wonderfully quiet and special spot
We were lucky enough to enjoy a few days at this fabulous little cottage in August. The tides were spectacular, the locals so friendly and helpful that we spent lots of our stay enjoying their company and the great walks suggested by Michelle and the folks we met. We loved the fresh fish, especially the mackerel generously given by a returning fisherman sailing past our cottage one evening! Highlights were a wonderful day at Heligan and evening at the marvellous Knee High theatre tent, and without doubt the sunsets sitting on the balcony watching people messing about on the river. If you like beautifully quiet special places, snug but wonderfully designed little cottages this is the place for you. Next time we will bring our own kayaks!
This property is a hidden gem!
Michele and Nick were lovely answering all the questions I had and sent a very useful document with all the instructions. The house is super cosy, very well decorated and we had a wonderful surprise of finding a bottle of wine, milk and cookies for us, thanks for the little gesture!
Lerryn is the place to spend few relaxing days in Cornwall, it was indeed what we needed! Plenty of wonderful walks around, we also had the opportunity to kayak along the river as the weather was fantastic during the bank holiday weekend! We were impressed by the sea food plates at Trewithen (Lostwithiel, few miles from Lerryn) a must visit restaurant.
Thanks once again Michele and Nick for making those days to be unforgettable!
Small but perfect in every way
We saw the pictures of Pentyre before we booked and it looked pretty good, the pictures don't do it justice. We were expecting it to be small and from the outside it looks pretty small but the way the space has been used inside makes it feel like a much bigger property. There is more than enough room for two people and the outside balcony is a perfect spot to sit and enjoy the sunset.
The village of Lerryn has a well stocked shop and the pub provides evening meals and a friendly atmosphere. Lostwithiel is only a few miles away and has a good selection of pubs and restaurants as well as a co-op supermarket. One evening we bought fish and chips from the chip shop in Lostwithiel and brought them back to Pentyre so we could eat them on the balcony with a glass of wine - perfect!
Further afield we found some nice places to visit following recommendations in the guidebook in the cottage. We also did a couple of the walks from the walking guides provided.
The quality of the towels and bedding are on a par with some of the better hotels you would want to stay in and the property was spotless with all the cutlery, crockery and kitchenware you could possibly need. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Pentyre to anyone, although we would rather keep it a secret so we can go back again!
From the Owner
“Lerrryn is a creekside village just off the main Fowey river and a bit of a hidden gem Easily accessible but it seems far from the madding crowds. We already knew the area quite well and when we saw this little bijoux property right on the banks of the river, we thought it would make a perfect retreat to enjoy river and coastal cornish life. We also thought it would be a sensible investment for our children's futures.”

“We love swimming directly from the lawn in front of the house and kayaking . The walks straight from the house are beautiful and the changing seasons of the woodlands close by.We also enjoy having a pub and shop in walking distance, so we don't have to go anywhere if we don't want to just stay here and watch the river, the birds and the tides.”
