About the property

Cottage in Lerryn, Fowey Cornwall, England - Idyllic Location, Near Fowey, Excellent for Kayaking, Swimming, Walking, Local Pub, Village Shop.

Pentye is a recently converted former boat store/ shed, with lots of luxury touches. It is tucked in beside the wall of an old lime Kiln, right on the banks of the river Lerryn. You can kayak or even swim straight from the lawn at high tide. At lower tides you can park on the small lane right outside, which runs alongside the river's edge. There are fantastic walks straight from the door, a booklet in the house lists lots of riverside circular walks. The ancient woodland just along from the house was said to be the inspiration for Kenneth Grahame's book 'Wind in the Willows'. You can hire kayaks from Golant who will deliver them and kayak from the house to St Winnow, Fowey or Lostwithiel, or simply mess about on the river and take a picnic for the day. It is ideal for artists and bird watching Alternatively Fowey is about 15 mins by car via the Boddinick ferry. There is a good local shop within a few steps of the house, which sells wine, beer, local cider, take away pasties and a wide range of groceries, so no need to leave if you don't want to. There is also a pub in Lerryn which has great cornish beer on draught and they do a fab bowl of Fowey mussels and chips, they can also rustle up take away fish and chips. The ancient town of Lostwithiel is 3 miles away which has lots of wonderful antique shops, cafes, pubs and a small supermarket. The Duchy Nursery is just outside Lostwithiel with an excellent range of plants and a really well worth visiting cafe, with delicious food. The Eden Project is only 8 miles, The National Trust's Lanhydrock House and the fishing villages of Looe and Polperro a short drive.

There are many good food places to eat out in Cornwall from the nearby Sam's on the beach at Polkerris to a bit further afield for Rick Stein's and Paul Ainsworth's in Padstow. you wont be bored.....so much to do and see!

All linen provided and wif fi included

About Michele Legg

I live on Dartmoor with my husband Nick, our daughter Milly and our son Elliot when he is home from University.

Michele Legg purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Michele Legg chose South East Cornwall

Lerrryn is a creekside village just off the main Fowey river and a bit of a hidden gem Easily accessible but it seems far from the madding crowds. We already knew the area quite well and when we saw this little bijoux property right on the banks of the river, we thought it would make a perfect retreat to enjoy river and coastal cornish life. We also thought it would be a sensible investment for our children's futures.

What makes this cottage unique

We love swimming directly from the lawn in front of the house and kayaking . The walks straight from the house are beautiful and the changing seasons of the woodlands close by.We also enjoy having a pub and shop in walking distance, so we don't have to go anywhere if we don't want to just stay here and watch the river, the birds and the tides.

Well kept, beautiful location

Clean and compact it's just right for a couple, worked well for us with our baby too but we will need to go elsewhere when they're toddling! Beautiful spot for wild swimming and paddle boarding locally on the river and for walks. Upstairs can get a bit warm so a fan would be recommended :) we had a lovely stay :)

Stunning location with everything we needed for a lovely holiday.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely little place. The location was stunning with beautiful unspoilt views across the river/creek. We are kayakers and enjoyed the easy access to the water at low tides from directly outside the accomodation. The village had everything we needed with the lovely River Store and The Ship Inn for drinks and eating out. It was a lovely peaceful place to stay, however, easy to get to other places nearby such as the coast where we enjoyed walks and visiting some of the towns including the delightful Fowey.

The accommodation had most things we required and was very tastefully kitted out, the king-size bed being especially comfortable.

We were blessed with lovely weather and enjoyed sitting riverside after our day's excursion watching the ducks and swans etc and chatting to the locals walking their dogs etc.

All in all, a lovely time was had.

Peace and tranquility. A great base for exploring Cornwall.

  • 5 of 5

We have had a thoroughly enjoyable week at Pentye in Lerryn. The photos don't do it justice; it is well equipped for self catering, tastefully furnished and is situated right on the banks of the river. It is a wonderfully peaceful place, you can sit outside and admire the view and hear nothing but birdsong.

We could have just sat on the balcony all week, it really is beautiful, but it's also a great location for exploring Cornwall; within 45 mins drive we visited St Michaels mount, Tingangel castle, and Watergate Bay.

If you are looking for a romantic break, look no further.

Owner's Response: Dear James Thank you so much for your very complimentary review . I'm so pleased you had such a great time staying in Lerryn and discovering other areas of Cornwall and as you found, we are so close to the North and South coasts. Thanks again for being such a great guest, hope you will return sometime in the future . I must take some more photos , obviously photography not my strong point ! Best wishes Michele

A weekend to remember!

  • 5 of 5

This is a heavenly little cottage. We fell in love with it the moment we walked through the door. It is warm and snug and beautifully furnished. From the lovely bedding to the bottle of wine in the fridge and the fabulous coffee, it is impossible not to enjoy your stay here. If you are looking for peace and tranquility in an idyllic setting on the banks of the river Lerryn, look no further. Oh and I haven't even mentioned the village shop with the still-warm chocolate brownies, the local pub, the kayaking, the circular walks, the kingfishers, the cream teas.....
