Elmar, Cubert. Nr Crantock Holywell and Polly Joke beaches

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

2 bed character cottage with huge Inglenook fireplace and log burner.Parking.

Elmar is a large four hundred year old period cottage complete with a massive Inglenook fireplace and bread oven situated in a quiet village location tucked away next to the ancient parish church just a mile away from the sea. The cottage comfortably sleeps four guests in two bedrooms. Its character features, wood burning stove and quiet location make it an ideal romantic retreat for couples, including those who want to bring their dog away with them. Two pubs, two restaurants and a general store/Post Office compliment the village. Cubert is well located with easy access to Crantock beach, Polly Joke and Holywell Bay. The attractions of the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lands End are easily reached by car as are the famous fishing villages up and down the coast. The surf capital of Britain, Newquay, is only five miles away with its world famous facilities. Cubert however is more suited to those seeking a more tranquil family holiday with very pretty walks to the beaches including Polly Joke which has recently been voted one of Britain’s best secret beaches. Locally there are two pubs in the village including the picturesque Smugglers Den Inn, a delightful 16th Century Thatched Inn. There are two restaurants including Off Shore which is fast attracting National attention being carved into the hillside and offering unparalleled views of the North Cornish coastline as far as St Ives. The Three local beaches are all within walkable distance of the cottage. Holywell Bay and Crantock Beach offer vast sandy bays with dunes, rock pools and caves to explore. In between is the gem that is Polly Joke, a gloriously natural beach surrounded by nothing more than National Trust headlands with a beautiful rugged coastline. For walkers, join the South West coastal path which meanders through the three local beaches before rising up the magnificent headlands on its spectacular journey on this section of the coast. Good shore fishing locally, with charter boats available at Newquay

About Steve Franklin

We bought the cottage having spent many happy family holidays in the area.

Recently we have fully renovated the cottage exposing a massive Inglenook fireplace complete with a bread oven and have installed a new Wood burning stove.

Steve Franklin purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Steve Franklin chose Cornwall

The cottage is a second home rather than a commercial let so you will find more home comforts such as good books to read, board games and local walking guides to compliment the character accommodation.

What makes this cottage unique

There are great local pubs and restaurants as well as fantastic coastal walks all year round

Guestbook comments from the owner

We arrived here at Elmar Cottage on sat 23/05 and the moment we unlocked the door we were greeted by a truely amazing cottage. It is a beautiful quaint cottage with a welcoming feel, we honestly felt like we were at home. As you walk through through the door you walk into a spacious living room with 2 sofas, a TV, a beautiful large log burner set back in a large open chimney, there are lots of books and games to choose from (child Friendly) there is also a large dining table. The kitchen is well equipped (with a dog bowl if needed). The bathroom is large with an amazing shower (I never wanted to get out). Upstairs there is a twin room beautifully decorated with plenty of storage space, the master bedroom is beautiful with the most comfortable large bed and plenty of storage space (you also get a good mobile reception from this room) outside there is a large garden (which is a beautiful sun trap)...my family which consists of myself, my husband, our 2 kids (9 and 11) and our Westie Jasper had a fantastic time here and would definitely come back, so if you are looking for a fabulous retreat for your family, don't look anywhere else Elmar Cottage is the place for you....Thank you Steve for allowing us to enjoy your cottage, we will always remember this place....x

Cosy, welcoming and ideally positioned cottage.

We had a lovely week at Cubert stopping in Elmar. The cottage had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. I was looking forward to nights by the log burner but the weather was stunning all week so we wasn't able to use it!

The walk to the dog friendly beach nearby was quiet and mainly free of traffic and well worth it - I've never seen so many dogs in one area!. All the beaches were beautiful as were the views from them.

The cottage is well placed for visiting the surrounding area and we took advantage of it's position exploring Portreath, Perranporth, Padstow and Rock. We finished off our holiday with a meal at Fifteen in Watergate Bay (for our wedding anniversary) which was wonderful treat.

We can't wait to return to beautiful North Cornwall!

Nice cottage plenty to do around the area, the beach is only 20 mins away by foot Polly Joke beach that is Hollywell Bay is even closer. Plenty of places to eat or cook yourself in the cottage. Cottage well furnished plenty of plates cups etc washing machine a real bonus iv stopped in Holiday cottages in West Pentire a few miles away and they had no washing machine. The garden is nice and i dried my clothes out there. What more can i say iv been coming to Cubert and West Pentire for 15 years i love the place.

Elmar Cottage is a delight

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Elmar Cottage on 23/05 for 7 days, our family consisted of myself, my husband, our 2 children and our westie Jasper. The cottage is situated in Cubert and there is a local shop and a fish chip and chip shop which is reasonably priced and it is only a 5-10 minutes drive to Crantock, Newquay and hollywell bay.

The moment we entered the cottage we were in awe of it, As we went through the front door we were greeted by a delightful lounge/dining room, the decor is absolutely beautiful with some lovely pictures. There is an amazing open fire place with a large wood burner (which gives out fantastic heat) the kitchen is a long galley with fantastic cupboard space and a lot of utensils and cutlery. The bathroom is large with the most amazing shower. Upstairs there is a quaint double room with twin beds and plenty of storage, the master bedroom is absolutely stunning with a large double bed and comfortable mattress, the decor is amazing and you get a fantastic mobile signal from this room. The back garden is large and with beautiful plantings, large washing line, greenhouse and bench with table.

I would recommend this holiday cottage to anyone, you wouldn't be disappointed.
