About the Owner

Causeway House is managed by Jonathan and Victoria. We have worked extensively throughout 2014 to completely renovate the cottage using local skilled work where needed.

We have enjoyed many family holidays here over the years as we hope you will too.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We thoroughly enjoyed our New Year break at Causeway House. A lovely, snug cottage, with the warmth of the aga and log burner bringing the family together. Standing in stunning scenery, with great hikes from the front door, we made the most of the clear, crisp days that we were so fortunate to get. We hope to return soon to take on striding edge, but in less icy conditions

Great cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for us (a party of six). The cottage was clean, tidy, comfortable, warm, nicely decorated and furnished, perfectly situated. The beds were comfortable and the quilts were warm. Well-equipped kitchen - the Aga was an experience in itself – much experimental baking by the stay-at-homes!

We walked and cycled without needing to use the car.

We have stayed in many cottages – many of which were more expensive than this one – and not as good.

If we can, we’ll be back.

Warmly recommended.

A welcoming, cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a a great time in Causeway House. We went on lots of walks, scrambles, sailed ,canoed and climbed! Most of which we could do without a car or a very short car journey. We were very lucky with the weather too. The Aga and fire made the cottage very warm, which was lovely.

Causeway House - Excellent, even in soupy weather.

  • 4 of 5

The house was clean, tidy, instructions beforehand made it easy to find and use everything - the bin instructions were a little confusing but the Aga, fire & all other utilities were perfect. We were blessed with truly awful weather and didn't go out much but the house was so lovely it didn't matter. Surprisingly convenient location considering the privacy of the spot - if, of course, you excuse nosy sheep which were very welcome and amusing. We had a lovely short stay and would recommend it to our friends.

Cosy yet roomy cottage with great views

  • 4 of 5

A clean, well equipped cottage with character, with a pretty garden to sit in and admire the views. Within walking or cycling distance of Patterdale with its shop, pub and hotel. We enjoyed sailing on Ullswater with Glenridding Sailing Centre, walking up Deepdale valley (the public footpath passing in front of the house), when we saw absolutely no one else on the walk, ate out in Patterdale and Glenridding (recommend the Fell Bites). Would recommend to anyone who likes to be out in the countryside, but not too far from village life, and who likes sheep!

Location

From the Owner

Causeway House feels like a home from home, and the views have to be seen to be believed. We are a perfect base for many of the walks around the Ullswater area too. After the full internal refurbishment in 2014 the cottage has a wonderfully cosy atmosphere whilst still keeping hold of the old cottage feel. This is not a small cottage though, so there's plenty of room for up to 6 adults to comfortably relax.

Facilities

From the Owner

Arriving at Causeway House is like taking a deep breath...it is the start of a wonderful relaxing break surrounded by the most beautiful scenery. Whether it's a long walk over the hills, crossing the lake by steamer, or simply relaxing by the fire with a good book, we always enjoy a full recharge of our batteries. The kitchen is a warm and inviting space with wonderful meals cooked on the Aga. Or alternatively we take a 5 minute drive to the Brothers Water Inn for a friendly welcome and a delicious locally sourced meal. Being surrounded by sheep in the fields outside provides an endless source of entertainment too, as does watching Peter the farmer, and Burt the dog round up the sheep each day.
