About Victoria Brown

Causeway House is managed by Jonathan and Victoria. We have worked extensively throughout 2014 to completely renovate the cottage using local skilled work where needed.

We have enjoyed many family holidays here over the years as we hope you will too.

Victoria Brown purchased this cottage in 1955

Why Victoria Brown chose Penrith

Causeway House feels like a home from home, and the views have to be seen to be believed. We are a perfect base for many of the walks around the Ullswater area too.

After the full internal refurbishment in 2014 the cottage has a wonderfully cosy atmosphere whilst still keeping hold of the old cottage feel. This is not a small cottage though, so there's plenty of room for up to 6 adults to comfortably relax.

What makes this cottage unique

Arriving at Causeway House is like taking a deep breath...it is the start of a wonderful relaxing break surrounded by the most beautiful scenery. Whether it's a long walk over the hills, crossing the lake by steamer, or simply relaxing by the fire with a good book, we always enjoy a full recharge of our batteries.

The kitchen is a warm and inviting space with wonderful meals cooked on the Aga. Or alternatively we take a 5 minute drive to the Brothers Water Inn for a friendly welcome and a delicious locally sourced meal.

Being surrounded by sheep in the fields outside provides an endless source of entertainment too, as does watching Peter the farmer, and Burt the dog round up the sheep each day.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We thoroughly enjoyed our New Year break at Causeway House. A lovely, snug cottage, with the warmth of the aga and log burner bringing the family together. Standing in stunning scenery, with great hikes from the front door, we made the most of the clear, crisp days that we were so fortunate to get. We hope to return soon to take on striding edge, but in less icy conditions

Cosy base for some fantastic walking

  • 5 of 5

The photos don’t convey just how warm and comfortable this Cottage is. A great base for some autumn walks, low and high, damp and dry. We really enjoyed cooking on a modern AGA , and the log burner is so cosy too. Good beds for a great nights sleep. Thank you

Cosy cottage, perfect location

  • 4 of 5

Warm, welcoming, cosy cottage with beautiful views. Lots of walks straight from the cottage . Within easy distance of Windermere, Ulleswater and not too far from Penrith. My friends and I really fell in love with the cottage and would be happy to make a return visit .

Cosy, warm, great location for walks right from the door or nearby.

Great cottage. Just the right size for us. Great AGA for cooking and banking. Nice sheltered garden area to sit outside, sheep all around us and with great views and walks from the cottage. Shops nearby. Haven't used the TV at all.

Comfy, clean cottage if a little old fashioned.

  • 4 of 5

Had a lovely weekend. Only slight disappointment was that when we arrived the cottage was REALLY cold and the aga had been left on very low which meant it took a long time to get comfortable and prepare a meal. Cottage was clean and comfortable. Could do with a few baking trays and furniture etc is very old fashioned but had everything we needed for our stay..

Fabulous cottage in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for our minimoon to relax and chill out. We couldn't have chosen a more perfect cottage in an ideal location. The cottage is a home from home. Our " neighbours" the lambs and sheep were a joy to watch . Location was superb as we where roughly 30 minutes from Ambleside, Windermere and Keswick. Beautiful drive along Kirkstone Pass and The Struggle down to Ambleside.

Definitely the best cottage we have ever found Mr & Mrs Whalley 1-7April 2017
