Morwenstow, Bude, North Cornwall, England - Tranquil Location With Glorious Views South Across The Valley. Sandy Beaches Two Miles.

Burridge House is the original farmhouse of Burridge Farm. A new farmhouse was built in about 1930 and this one abandoned and used as a pig sty. It was neglected for sixty years until the farmer restored it in 1990. It still retains the character of the original house with its thick stone walls, deep windowsills and some exposed beams upstairs. It is tucked away in Coombe Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and special geological interest. It nestles into the south-facing slope with a panoramic view across the valley. Birdsong is the predominant sound with sheep, cattle and the occasional putter of a tractor. On still evenings at high tide you can hear the surf at Duckpool, a delightful two mile walk down the valley. The seaside town of Bude is just five miles away and offers a wide variety of activities, entertainment and shopping. The North Cornish coast is stunning and unspoilt here. The cliffs are some of the highest and most rugged in the country with spectacular views up and down the coast and across to Lundy Island.

Notes:
Outside: The two acres of gardens are laid down to trees, shrubs and lawn. The terrace with conservatory is on the south side and so benefits from the sun for most of the day. There is a table with eight chairs and a sun shade. This is the ideal place for breakfast on sunny mornings and Champagne on balmy evenings. The Weber charcoal barbecue cooks wonderful food, especially joints of meat, and even puddings. Keep your binoculars with you to watch the wild life of the valley; one of our guests counted 17 different species of birds from the terrace. Utility Room: Washing machine, dryer, hanging rail for laundry/wetsuits. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels (but not beach towels) and bed linen are provided. For stays of longer than a week clean bed linen is provide weekly. The house is thoroughly cleaned on each change-over day. Other: The 'children's' room has TV, DVD player, a big heap of bean bags and cushions, board games and books. There is a table football game in the hallway. The conservatory has stunning views south across the valley and is great when too chilly to sit outside.

Beautiful comfortable home in stunning location

Six of us stayed at Burridge house for 4 nights and fell in love the place. The house is both comfortable and clean - Superking bed in the master bedroom with ensuite - amazing. The house huge and is fully equipped - even has a laundry room!. Margaret and Carol left us a welcome pack that included a cream tea, quiches and wine amongst other things. Much appreciated after a long drive. Bude is also a lovely area to stay and visit. Would thoroughly recommend.

Location

Coast/Beach:

The nearby beaches have wide expanses of clean sand at low tide. Sandymouth and Duckpool are two miles away. It is a delightful walk to Duckpool from the house. Some beaches have full facilities including lifeguard cover for surfers and swimmers, refreshments, and loos; others have almost total seclusion but involve a long walk down — and even longer up! Rock pools invite exploration to both the curious and to budding young marine biologists. There are several surfing beaches within 5 miles.

Travel:

The use of a car is essential unless you are true backpacking hikers or cyclists (not recommended as roads are very steep and narrow).

Distances:

The village of Kilkhampton, one mile away, has nearly everything you need: two general stores, Post Office, butcher, internet café, two pubs and several other interesting shops. Killock Farm shop, sells local and home-grown vegetables, meat and fish, and the bakery makes cakes, pasties, flans and pies. Bude (5 miles) is a bustling seaside town with a full range of shops and supermarkets to cater for all your needs.

Further Details:

There is a leisure centre with swimming pool and a golf course in Bude, and sandy beaches with a tidal pool Nearby riding stables in Gooseham cater for beginners and experienced riders. Tamar Lakes offer watersports. The National Trust has many glorious properties in Cornwall and Devon. Nowhere in Cornwall is far away and the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are well within a day trip, as is the less wild south coast.

SHORT BREAKS
Short breaks are available on request although it states minimum booking is seven days. This is because the web site makes up prices for short breaks so please follow these guide lines. Short breaks are generally 3 nights over a weekend or 4 nights mid-week and cost 70% of the weekly rate. During summer and school holidays they will only be available at short notice. Four nights over a weekend will be charged at 80% of the weekly rate; 5 nights will be charged at 90% and 6 nights at the full weekly rate. Arrival days may be flexible.

Booking Notes:
20% non-refundable deposit secures a booking and full payment (by cheque or transfer) is required four weeks before the start date.
NB. Burridge is strictly non smoking and we are not able to accommodate pets.
As the house is on different levels it has stairs in unexpected places. There is a very small unfenced pond. There are some outcrops of uneven bedrock just off the terrace. Therefore the house may not be suitable for those of reduced mobility or for very young children.

Changeover Day:
Changeover is Saturday, although this can be flexible out of season and at short notice when there is no other booking. Arrival is 3pm and departure 10am.

Notes on prices:
Discounts available for late bookings and if only one or two guests. If possible changeover can be flexible eg. at Easter or Christmas/New Year.

20% non-refundable deposit secures booking. Balance due four weeks before arrival.
