Excellent quiet location with stunning coastal views. Very convenient for visiting Edinburgh and the surrounding area. The chalet is clean and comfortable and has everything that you need.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very positive review. We would agree that the chalet is ideally located especially for families with children. We have East Links Family Fun Park, Foxlake Wakeboarding, and Dunbar swimming pool within a mile. Then, to sample the delights of Edinburgh, all you have to do is take a 40 minute drive by car or a 22 minute train journey.

LOVELY CHALET IN BEAUTIFUL LOCATION

  • 5 of 5

The chalet is in a great location, seconds from the beach but still quiet and relaxing and the enclosed garden proved a suntrap when the sun appeared! It was spotlessly clean and everything we needed was provided and having some basics provided in the kitchen was appreciated. Our dog loved the walks on the beach and we enjoyed the Cliffside trail. We ate out most days and could recommend the food/service in the Castle Hotel and we had a lovely takeaway from the chip shop! We thoroughly enjoyed our break and plan to return next year.

Lovely chalet in a stunning location.

  • 4 of 5

Had a fantastic week in what is a beautiful chalet - clean, bright, comfortable and modern. The view over the bay from the large front window is stunning. The kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of the usual “basics” in the cupboards. There are many fantastic walks in the area and if you have children, plenty for them to do to. Our dog enjoyed his holiday as much as we did. We'll be back.

Owner's Response: thank you very much for your review. Your comments on the location of the chalet certainly hit the spot and the Times newspaper agrees with you. Belhaven Bay has been rated 9 out of 10 for best places in the U.K. to have a coastal walk and picnic. See the Weekend supplement on Saturday 6th June 2015.

SECRETS OUT

  • 5 of 5

Recently spent a few days here as part of a golf touring break.

I really don't want to tell you about this place...in case it is fully booked next time i want to go back.

The Chalet was easy to find, comfortable, warm, very well equipped, clean and well decorated.

The view was a joy to admire throughout the day and peaceful in the evening with the quietness of the area.

Only Problem we had was that we were only there for 3 nights...Next time longer.

IF YOUR THINKING OF THIS AREA DON'T THINK TWICE ABOUT BOOKING HERE.

Location

From the Owner

The property has been in the family for 16 years. My partner inherited it in 2013. We are a 30 minute drive away but as soon as we reach Belhaven we are in another world where we can unwind. We love the view standing at our window of The "Big Sky" and the sea, which changes as the tide comes in and out. We are never bored as there are so many places to visit in the area.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The front of the chalet faces Belhaven Bay. It is a wide sandy beach which is popular with surfers and walkers. The appearance of the beach constantly changes with the tide. When the tide is in, the beach is almost completely covered by water and the river leading to the sea becomes a lake.

There is also a beach in Dunbar which is a 20 minute walk or short drive away. The beautiful beaches of Tyningham, Seacliffe, North Berwick, Dirleton and Gullane are a 30-45 minute drive away.

Travel:

Edinburgh airport is a 45 minute drive. There is a railway station in Dunbar which is on the main London to Edinburgh line. There is a bus service to Edinburgh and the bus stop is only a 5 minute walk away but as the bus takes 70 minutes to Edinburgh it is not recommended.

A car is recommended to be able to access the many sights in East Lothian but those who were keen walkers or cyclists could manage without a car at a push.

Distances:

Dunbar is a 15 minute walk away. The market town of Haddington is a 15 minute drive away. Tantallon Castle is a 15 minute drive and dirleton castle is a 30 minute drive. The museum of flight at east Fortune is a 20 minute drive away. The sea bird centre at North Berwick is a 20 minute drive away. The East Lothian section of the John Muir Way stretches from Prestonpans along the coast to Dunbar and is a favourite with walkers

Further Details:

Dunbar has several banks, a post office, cafes, pubs, restaurants, a swimming pool which has a wave machine and flumes, harbour and beach. A large Asda is on the outskirts of town.

Dunbar is the home of John Muir and the house of his birth is now a museum in the high street. Entry is free.

The family fun park near West Barns is a 15 minute walk from the property along the John Muir way, or a 2 minute drive. Its a great place for children with an adventure park, a train, an outdoor area with farm animals and a cafe.

There is also a wake boarding school with a café, a 5 minute drive away.

Facilities

From the Owner

We love walking on the beach outside our door, walking the east lothian sections of the John Muir Way, visiting quaint villages inland, and the lovely seaside towns of North Berwick, Gullane and Dunbar, finding new coffee shops on our travels and keeping a list, which we are happy to share with our guests. When we are feeling energetic, we walk up Berwick Law or Trapain Law where we have a lovely view of the coast. My partner has recently discovered micro-lighting near the Museum of Flight at East Fortune and has enjoyed seeing the coast from the air.
