About alice leckie

I co own the property with my partner. We live in Edinburgh a 30 minute drive away, so we are available to assist if there is an emergency.

We are both retired

alice leckie purchased this chalet in 2013

Why alice leckie chose Dunbar

The property has been in the family for 16 years. My partner inherited it in 2013.

We are a 30 minute drive away but as soon as we reach Belhaven we are in another world where we can unwind.

We love the view standing at our window of The "Big Sky" and the sea, which changes as the tide comes in and out.

We are never bored as there are so many places to visit in the area.

What makes this chalet unique

We love walking on the beach outside our door, walking the east lothian sections of the John Muir Way, visiting quaint villages inland, and the lovely seaside towns of North Berwick, Gullane and Dunbar, finding new coffee shops on our travels and keeping a list, which we are happy to share with our guests.

When we are feeling energetic, we walk up Berwick Law or Trapain Law where we have a lovely view of the coast.

My partner has recently discovered micro-lighting near the Museum of Flight at East Fortune and has enjoyed seeing the coast from the air.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are so lucky to have the lovely beach at Belhaven Bay right on our doorstep. There are a number of other lovely beaches nearby, Tyningham being the nearest, a 10 minute drive away. There are also Yellowcraigs and Gullane beach, a 25 minute drive away. We have a parking permit from East Lothian Council, which allows our guests to park free of charge at any of these coastal car parks.

Loved our short break at Belhaven Bay. The chalet was perfect, incredibly clean and cosy, with every convenience you need and more. Situated right at the beach, the location is great. The sunsets were beautiful! We hope to return soon!

Good

  • 4 of 5

Lovely little cabin right opposite beautiful Belhaven Bay. Well equipped and comfortable. It is very small though so two adults and two kids max. Dudley the dachshund also enjoyed it enormously!

Owner's Response: Thank you. It is certainly true that location is all and we are so lucky to be so close to one of the most beautiful beaches in East Lothian. We may be small, but there is enough room for 5 people maximum with a 2 seater sofa, a 3 seater sofa, plus dining table and chairs for 5. We have had several families with 3 children who are on to their second booking with us.

Location

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The front of the chalet faces Belhaven Bay. It is a wide sandy beach which is popular with surfers and walkers. The appearance of the beach constantly changes with the tide. When the tide is in, the beach is almost completely covered by water and the river leading to the sea becomes a lake.

There is also a beach in Dunbar which is a 20 minute walk or short drive away. The beautiful beaches of Tyningham, Seacliffe, North Berwick, Dirleton and Gullane are a 30-45 minute drive away.

Travel:

Edinburgh airport is a 45 minute drive. There is a railway station in Dunbar which is on the main London to Edinburgh line. There is a bus service to Edinburgh and the bus stop is only a 5 minute walk away but as the bus takes 70 minutes to Edinburgh it is not recommended.

A car is recommended to be able to access the many sights in East Lothian but those who were keen walkers or cyclists could manage without a car at a push.

Distances:

Dunbar is a 15 minute walk away. The market town of Haddington is a 15 minute drive away. Tantallon Castle is a 15 minute drive and dirleton castle is a 30 minute drive. The museum of flight at east Fortune is a 20 minute drive away. The sea bird centre at North Berwick is a 20 minute drive away. The East Lothian section of the John Muir Way stretches from Prestonpans along the coast to Dunbar and is a favourite with walkers

Further Details:

Dunbar has several banks, a post office, cafes, pubs, restaurants, a swimming pool which has a wave machine and flumes, harbour and beach. A large Asda is on the outskirts of town.

Dunbar is the home of John Muir and the house of his birth is now a museum in the high street. Entry is free.

The family fun park near West Barns is a 15 minute walk from the property along the John Muir way, or a 2 minute drive. Its a great place for children with an adventure park, a train, an outdoor area with farm animals and a cafe.

There is also a wake boarding school with a café, a 5 minute drive away.
