Fantastic, Spacious Villa With Large Pool And Sea Views. Best by far in the area

Bedrooms 3
Separate WCs1
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Best value for the money in the area, large spacious rooms and plenty of veranda space.

Palm Trees is an imposing hillside villa/guest house set in its own grounds on the gated Anchor Estate on Jamaica’s South Coast. It is about 200 feet above sea level and 400 yards from the beach. The views are amazing and there is normally a relaxing breeze. All the rooms have high ‘cathedral ceilings’ and fans. The pool is very private as it is within the villa. Every guest has loved Palm Trees and many guests say they will return. Whitehouse is a small fishing town on the South west coast of Jamaica on the borders of Westmoreland and St Elizabeth. The area is largely untouched by mega-resort development. There is plenty of fresh produce at roadside fruit stands. Fresh-caught fish especially in Whitehouse. There is a friendly community atmosphere about the area. Ffloyd’s Pelican Bar, called the "coolest bar in the Caribbean" is well worth a visit as is Jake’s Place and Jack Spratt’s in Treasure Beach. Lovers Leap, not far from Treasure Beach, YS Falls, Bamboo Avenue and the Appleton Estate rum tour should not be missed. Seeing the crocodiles on the Black River Safari is a great experience.

About Bernard and Daisy Skan

In 1999 I, Bernard an Englishman met Daisy who was born in Jamaica. We were married in 2000 and came to Jamaica in 2004 when we fist saw Palm Trees. We decided to buy and complete the building. In 2009 we doubled the size of the villa to enable us to be on site to maintain the pool, fix any little problems that may occur and to generally maintain and keep the place clean. Daisy is an excellent cook and housekeeper and I am fairly competent at DIY, plumbing, electrical repairs, building and gardening.

Bernard and Daisy Skan purchased this villa in 2004

Wonderful Private Escape

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful vacation! I'm writing it a bit late, but wanted to share how much we enjoyed our stay. We felt like we had a true Jamaican experience...goats next door and a private pool in paradise! Bernard and Daisy were friendly, helpful, and responsive to each of our requests.

My fair-skinned husband must stay in the shade and there were plenty of places for him to relax and read. Meanwhile, I sat in the sun and enjoyed the pool every chance I got!

We ate a couple times at a local restaurant "BlueWaters Cafe" and LOVED it. We could have eaten there every night. We also enjoyed trips to Treasure Beach, Black River, and Negril. I'd give anything to be back there right now!

The wifi is in you can only get it in one spot. But, we didn't mind disconnecting from the world! You should also realize there is no TV...also a wonderful chance to get away from it all! Next time we go, we might rent a car so we can explore...although just relaxing never gets old.

Again, THANK YOU, Bernard & Daisy, for a wonderful vacation. We'll never forget it and home to get back there sometime. :)

I stayed here with my family during the Christmas holiday and we had a fantastic time. Bernard and Daisy were great host, and felt more like family than anything. They arranged a driver to take us to different parts of Jamaica, our driver's name was Brown. He was so nice! After the long days of exploring we looked forward to returning to paradise. The rooms were spacious, and very clean. There was a total of 5 of us and we all had enough space to stay comfortably. The pictures does not give it any justice. My family and I will certainly be back!

The owners changed the name of the place because the reviews were SO BAD!

We were there and there was hardly any water, NO hot water and then we found ants and roaches.

We were told that the place had been robbed at least twice!

The reviews on the site now are not even real for the most part, they took our original review off by changing the name, it USED to be called "Hummingbird Villa"

Palm Trees was an excellent choice for us as it was private, spacious and met all of our vacation needs. The photos don't do it justice! The views were extraordinary & Bernie & Daisy were quick to address any questions or concerns about the area. Daisy is also & excellent cook & was kind enough to prepare food for us upon or late arrival.

I would strongly recommend Palm Trees Villa for families exploring the South Coast.

Palm Trees a unique one off spacious villa

Palm Trees a unique one off spacious villa

We have traveled to Jamaica’s south coast many times. We have stayed in villas advertised as the ‘best thing since sliced bread’ most of them have been disappointing and then we went to Palm Trees which turned out to be the perfect choice. Not only the most reasonably priced in the area but certainly understated by the owners. It was the most airy, open, friendly, yet private villa in the whole of Whitehouse. The owners Bernard and Daisy who live on site were extremely friendly and hospitable and were happy to provide meals for us F.O.C. if we supplied the ingredients. We travelled with our two teenaged sons and Daisy and Bernard met us at the airport and drove us to the villa for less than half the cost of a taxi. As we did not rent a car Bernard and Daisy drove us F.O.C. to lots of lovely places, like Floyd’s Pelican Bar out in the sea and Jake’s Place in Treasure Beach and Rick’s Cafe in Nigril. They also took us to a fantastic bar called Bluewater which is very close to Palm Trees. We can’t say more it’s the best place we have ever stayed. Next year we will return to Whitehouse and for the first time go back to a place we have stayed i.e. Palm Trees

We have stayed in Whitehouse several times. The beauty of Palm Trees is the openness. Although it has only three bedrooms, the master bedroom is huge with its’ own lounge area. The other two bedrooms are 16 x 12 each, comfortably large. We have stayed twice on this estate and although all the other villas were more expensive and had more bedrooms, those bedrooms were smaller and in one place claustrophobic, one bedroom we discovered was designed as an 8’ x 8’ linen cupboard. Our mother came to stay with us in one of those places and we had to seek alternative accommodation. This is when we discovered Palm Trees which she loved as she had all the space in the world. We criticised Palm Trees for their pricing their place to low and they, Bernard and Daisy, explained that they were not trying to make money but just had enough income to maintain the property. Bernard and Daisy were the most hospitable hosts ever, we love them, love Palm Trees and wish we could stay for ever.

Montego Bay Airport is about 35 miles from Palm Trees

On leaving the airport take the A1 towards Lucea and Negril. After about 4 miles at Reading turn left onto the B8. Keep on the B8 until you reach Ferris Cross on the South Coast. Turn left onto the A2 and head southwest towards Whitehouse passing through Cave, Mearnsville, Bluefields, Belmont and Auchindown. On the right you will see the entrance to Sandals, Whitehouse. You have only just over a mile to go. Look out for the anchor a

Whitehouse is about one mile from Palm Trees with a fish market and veg market

2 super markets. Nearer to the villa is a lovely bar/restaurant called Bluewaters. Further afield the are plenty of interesting places to visit especially in the next parish to Westmoreland. YS Falls, the Appleton Estate, Floyds Pelican Bar, Jake's Place in Treasure Beach, Lovers Leap and Bamboo Avenue. We would certainly recommend hiring a car at the airport. Unless you enjoy "white knuckle rides" avoid local taxis.

Further Details:

Other places worth driving to are Nigril at the most westerly point of Jamaica and Ocho Rios where you can enjoy a day visiting Dunn's River Falls and the Green Grotto Caves.
