The Maribo apartment is a beautiful, spacious two apartment which is part of Kalkan's exclusive Emir development. Fabulously located a genuinely easy 5 min stroll from restaurants and beach, this luxury property also has an enviable ground floor location close to one of 2 large feature pools. It is kept to a very high standard by owners who consider it their second home. There are 2 double bedrooms and a new, contemporary bathroom with walk in power shower. The property enjoys stunning sea views over Kalkan Bay. It has 2 seating areas on its enclosed private patio. Sunloungers & parasols are provided for use of Maribo Apartment guests. The Emir boasts 3 spacious sun terraces, landscaped gardens has 24 hour on site staff and English speaking reception. A 'meet & greet' service is provided including a small complementary welcome pack for guests. Free 'wi-fi' is also provided and the apartment has a safe for the use of guests. The development benefits from a large water back up reserve tank to ensure constant water during any water cuts and an electricity generator should it be needed. The Emir was built to the highest standard by Kalkan's most prestigious developer and is well maintained by the on site staff.

About the Owner

We own the Teras Apartment at the Emir (property number TK411, 8014540) and live in England and enjoy travelling to our second home in Kalkan three times a year. Avril is retired and John is a photographer. We love the hospitable Turkish people, the beautiful scenery, great food and the relaxed way of life. We have six grown up children and four grandchildren.

The Maribo Apartment at the Emir (property number TK4541, 8157484) is owned by our very good friends Marit and Derek who live in Norway and visit their second home in Kalkan regularly. Marit is a school teacher and Derek is semi retired and works in the oil industry. They have children and grandchildren.

As she is UK based Avril manages the bookings for both apartments.

Early May at the Maribo

My wife and I loved staying at the Maribo for a week in early May this year. The apartment was very spacious and it was so good to have kitchen facilities. The pool area was kept very clean and was very quiet - so very relaxing. The staff were very good and even helped change the locks when we were locked out! The apartment was very clean although it was only cleaned once during our stay - that could have been down to us coming weds- thurs. I would definitely look to book at the Maribo again.

We bought the Teras Apartment in 2005 because we had grown to love Kalkan. The Emir Apartments are in a great location, high enough up to have a great view but low enough to make the town, restaurants, banks and supermarkets easily accessible without the need for taxis. The Maribo, also at the Emir was bought by our good friends Marit & Derek in 2012. They bought their apartment after many happy years enjoying wonderful holidays at the Emir. As well as it's location in relation to the amenities and the town they appreciated the great freedom provided by being on one level close to the main pool and having a great view.

Special interest holidays:

Kalkan is ideal for all types of water activities from water skiing to scuba diving. Kalkan Bay also has a Blue Flag Award for cleanliness. Walkers and hikers are well catered for with the ancient Lycian Way on the doorstep. This passes directly through the town making it ideal for anyone wanting to walk part of the extensive, picturesque route. Early morning horse riding lessons are available on Patara Beach and during the summer months Yoga classes are available on the sea front at the renowned Villa Mahal, only a short water taxi away. Kalkan also provides many opportunities for sketching, painting or photography as its flora and fauna never fails to inspire.

A local restaurant called Gurus has been recently featured in a national UK newspaper and is popular for its Turkish cookery classes which are a great way to meet new people in an informal setting and enjoy and introduction to delicious Turkish cuisine.

Coast/Beach:

Kalkan's blue flag beach is close by, a max 10 min walk. The world renowned Patara beach is 15 min drive. There are many other small sandy coves within 5 mins drive i.e. Kaputas beach which is a beautiful secluded cove. Kalkan harbour also provides gulet trips around the bays for relaxing days out.

There are also many beach clubs close by, which offer free taxi services. Kalkan' beach clubs, are excellent, with sunbathing platforms, direct sea access & great lunches at on site restaurants.

Travel:

Throughout the year there are direct flights to the modern Dalaman airport. Here, you can either hire a car or I can arrange a private transfer for you. The trip takes 1 hr 30 mins and is a very pretty journey with breathtaking scenery with amazing views.

Further Details:

Kalkan is a small fishing village with winding cobbled streets and alleyways. The area round the old town has expanded gradually over recent years but the ancient old town retains its original character and is pedestrianized in the summer season. It's surrounded by the awesome Taurus mountains. At its centre lies the harbour with a mix of local fishing craft, traditional gullets and visiting yachts.

There is a wealth of superb restaurants, the best to be had in coastal Turkey and for which Kalkan is most famous. Here you will find menus to suit all pockets and tastes. These are mainly situated along the harbour front or on roof terraces offering excellent views over the sea, superb fresh fish and seafood. A wonderful evening can be enjoyed in a relaxing ambience soaking up the atmosphere of the village at night. Many of these restaurants feature annually in reports provided by national newspapers in the UK. Although sophisticated and chic, these have still retained their Turkish charm. Shops are very good quality with a range of merchandise available from arts and crafts to ‘designer’ handbags. There is a range of boutique style bag shops that hold many bargains compared to UK prices. There is also an excellent weekly Thursday market providing many opportunities for bargain hunting from t-shirts and jeans to spices and local farmer’s food produce. There are three banks with ATM machines close to the apartment as well as very well stocked supermarkets.

A 30% non-refundable deposit (£100 minimum) is required to secure a booking. The balance is payable 8 weeks prior to arrival along with a £100 damage/breakages deposit (damage other than normal wear and tear) which is refunded within 7 days of departure subject to clearance by the management company. We also ask that you only smoke on the terrace, where ashtrays are provided. We will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the Teras apartment, the area or flights.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is flexible. The apartment can be accessed from 3pm on the day of arrival and vacated by noon on the day of departure. However whenever possible we are flexible with these times, dependent on the timing of the previous/following guest.

John & Avril chose the Teras apartment because it has beautiful views and is at pool level. It has the largest covered terrace on the development and is all on one level and this makes holidays very relaxed. It is immaculately furnished. Marit and Derek chose the Maribo because it has a private terrace with great views and is also all on one level just a few steps up from the main pool. We also chose the apartments because they are serviced by an English speaking manager who lives on site, who will resolve any problems we or guests have. Within 150 yards of the apartment there are five banks, three supermarkets, a patisserie and a greengrocers. The nearest restaurants are also also about 150/200 yards away.

  • Notes on accommodation: The Maribo Apartment is built and decorated to a high standard. Antique marble flooring is standard throughout. Air conditioning is provided and individually controlled in all rooms and can also be used to heat. The apartment is non smoking in all internal areas. An ipod dock and CD stereo is also provided but guests should bring their own collections. The Emir Apartments are bordered by 'green land' allowing full, unobstructed sea views from all public areas and pool terraces. The apartment's electric water heater provides hot water. The Emir apartments also benefit from a back up electricity generator in times of power cuts and there is also a water back up tank. There are car spaces for those wishing to hire a car though the genuine central location means this is not necessary. Free wifi is also available for Maribo Apartment guests. Outside: The Maribo Apartment is located on the ground floor, close to the Emir's larger, impressive swimming pool. The views of Kalkan Bay are spectacular. The apartment's door opens onto a spacious private patio, where you can take an al fresco breakfast or simply enjoy the early morning sunshine. The patio is furnished with 2 tables and 6 chairs. The Emir's main pool with a small children's section is located in front of the property, down a few steps. The apartments have 3 spacious sun terraces with sun loungers and parasols provided for the sole use of guests. The lower terrace has a smaller second pool which generally is only used by adults. The Emir also benefits from 24 hour security and features private, landscaped gardens with many stunning fragrant bushes, shrubs and vibrant bougainvillea. The private patio is a perfect place to sip that relaxing evening drink and enjoy watching the sun set gently over Kalkan Bay. Utility Room: Washing machine, iron and ironing board, clothes drier/airer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedlinen and towels are provided and there is a mid week clean and linen change. Bins are emptied daily. Pool towels are provided. Other: There's a spacious patio, enclosed by a fence and gate and a small garden area. It's equipped with a large circular table and 4 chairs placed under a small veranda which provides shade and a smaller table and 2 chairs placed outside the lounge in the sun.
