About the property

Period house, 7 king size rooms, 1 single, open fires, aga, drawing room, library

The property is unusual in that it is 'grand' but extremely homely and comfortable. It is exceptionally beautiful in all seasons. The house has 7 large bedrooms and one single room. There are three Bathrooms on the upper floor, and two guest toilets on Ground Floor. The Drawing room has a cosy wood fire and grand piano. Sky TV, Wireless Internet, PS4, table tennis, garden badminton, bowls and board games. Security entrance. Chef or cooking on request. Kitchen garden. Apple orchard. 15 acres surrounding.

House History - The property was constructed by the Fitzwilliam family of Coolattin. Lakeen House was reputedly used as a training ground for the domestic staff of the main house, now uninhabited and part of golf course in the village. In the late 1940s the eighth Earl of Fitzwilliam died in a plane crash together with Kathleen Kennedy, sister of John F. Kennedy. The estate was eventually broken up after Fitzwilliam's daughter, Lady Juliet de Chair, sold it in 1977.

Activity and Interests

Car hire is essential.

From Dublin take either the N81, N11or M9 depending on which part of Dublin you are in. All routes are approximately 1.5 hours in total.

From Tullow take the road marked Shillelagh and continue for appromimately 8 miles passing the Fleece pub (at about 5 miles)on the right, and though Cookenna at about 6.5. A mile or so after you will come to a dangerous bend. The entrance to the house is on the left at the end of the bend and is marked by two large, white posts.
