Chalet in Chatel, Haute Savoie, Rhone-Alpes, France - Family Friendly Chalet, Peaceful Location With Short Drive To Village And Fantastic Skiing

Having discovered the Portes du Soleil as the perfect family ski destination we set about finding the perfect family ski chalet. We bought Chalet Mesanges in 2012 and have since loved both summer and winter holidays here. It offers a home from home within easy reach of arguably the best skiing in the Portes du Soleil circuit. We are located on the lower road to the Linga lifts. The main ski area is a 3 minute drive or the free ski bus is a 200m walk away. Whilst both the skiing and village are very accessible, it is a tranquil and unspoilt location. In the summer we have enjoyed mountain biking, walking (lifts remain open), parapenting, swimming in Lake Leman, rafting, fishing, canyoning, and the longest zip wire in Europe! (Fantasticable). Pre booked activities in resort available. Secure ski and bike area. Over three floors there are 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 living rooms and a large kitchen diner.

About Ian Binnian

The chalet is co owned by two families who purchased it in summer 2012. One family lives in Zurich, Switzerland and the other in Oxfordshire. Both families have extensive experience of the Alps and travel there regularly.

In January 2015 the Jack in The Box film production company leased the chalet to film the movie " Off Piste". Filming was done inside the chalet and in the surrounds, with the crew also using it for accommodation. The film is on release from autumn 2016. The choice of Chatel was carefully made on the basis that it has some of the best skiing in the Portes Du Soleil, and the village itself has retained its original French charm.

Since purchase the chalet has undergone significant upgrading with a new roof, new windows and external doors throughout, a new balcony, and building development of the basement.

What makes this chalet unique

We have wonderful valley views from our balconies and large garden and the garden is bordered by a tumbling stream.

Great family friendly chalet - highly recommended

A great family friendly ski chalet. Warm and well equipped the chalet is an excellent base to explore the fabulous Portes du Soleil ski area. Located in a quiet area of the village but still the village, apres ski and ski lift stations are all easily accessible via the frequent ski shuttle bus that leaves from the bottom of the drive. Highly recommended.

Chalet at Chatel

We stayed in this chalet for two weeks with part of our extended family (we were six adults and six children). It was a wonderful experience! The chalet has the most stunning views, both up and down the valley with snow-clad mountains in the distance and even on the occasional rainy day we never ceased to wonder at the view and to delight in such a beautiful place. The balcony which runs around three sides of the chalet was very appealing and safe for children.

The chalet, though up an extremely bumpy but short road, is in a very private location, with no other chalet beyond it. We did find it something of a challenge finding the location when we first arrived: perhaps more detailed instructions or a map would help. However it was truly worth the search! It is a great advantage to be so close to Switzerland and Lake Geneva, but not to have to pay the Swiss tourist tax or Swiss food prices! Having the Intermarché quite so near and free tennis more or less on site was great! And, of course, all sorts of walks! We found Charlotte and Tim unfailingly helpful and friendly.

The beautifully designed basement area was brilliant for the older generation! And we found the kitchen very well-equipped, even for our numbers. We enjoyed eating outside, though the picnic table is pretty wobbly! We moved down a table from the garage later that was much better (though we felt we had to protect it from sun and rain). At first we could not find any garden furniture because it was all in the garage to which we had no key. However a phone call to Charlotte sorted that out. We also enjoyed using the table tennis table we found in the garage.

We're reluctant to sound too enthusiastic in case it becomes so popular we're not able to book it again!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the useful feedback. This summer is the first time we have marketed chalet lettings properly, the winter ski lettings always being 90% let. We can easily improve the arrival instructions and will do so, plus all guests will have a garage key from arrival. We are over there soon so will be sorting out our summer garden furniture and table. As you say, we do have one of the best down valley views in all of Chatel!

Great Chalet for a larger family or group

With our four teenage kids, we are always looking for Chalets that provide more living space and a good kitchen, but still are in tune with the environment, as we are there to enjoy both the skiing and the family time. This Chalet is excellent for both. It's spacious, functional, has great facilities, and is very well maintained. It is very easy to reach, and the drive to the skiing areas doesn't take long.

Great for families

We stayed in the Chalet for two weeks in summer with 4 adults and 5 children (aged 3-11) and can totally recommend this place for families. During the day we enjoyed the different walks and hikes in and around Chatel.

While preparing our meals in the well equipped kitchen, the children loved to stay outside in the garden and around the house. With no worries we could even let the youngest play outside as the chalet is the last house in its road and no cars would interrupt their games.

We also liked the friendly and uncomplicated contact with Ian and Charlotte. Questions and Emails were answered straight away, handy tips and hints were given, transfer of keys was as easy as could be and as we had a question according to the hot water facility in the house, we got in contact with Charlotte and the problem was solved almost immediately.

Très bon rapport Qualité / Prix

Grand Chalet confortable et agréable à vivre, gentiment décoré avec des photos de famille.

Très propre.

Très bien équipé, batterie de cuisine complète et tous les appareils fonctionnaient parfaitement.

La télévision n'offrait que des programmes anglais mais la jeune gestionnaire, Charlotte, nous a "dépannés" dès le lendemain de notre arrivée et nous avons pu profiter pleinement des émissions françaises pendant la durée de notre séjour.

Le chalet est situé dans un lotissement très calme et fleuri avec de belles vues sur la montagne et le village proche de CHATEL.

Non négligeable avec de jeunes enfants : à 5 minutes en voiture, un INTERMARCHE .

Beaucoup de promenades aux alentours et la Suisse à distance raisonnable...

Excellent séjour avec nos petits-enfants.

Très beau temps.

Echanges honnêtes et concis avec le propriétaire.
