About the property

Cottage in Mevagissey, Cornwall, England - Situated A Few Minutes Walk From The Village Centre, With Harbour, Shops, Restaurants And Pubs

Cove House is a recently modernised former fisherman's cottage. At one time it was the harbourmasters house, and it is easy to see why when you look out at the panoramic views of the harbour and coast. The superb view is the first thing that hits you at Cove House. This view is the same from the lounge, dining room and all bedrooms. It is as engaging night or day, or in a storm or sunshine. It can be absorbing, and at the same time relaxing, sitting in one of the bay windows or outside on the small terrace area, watching the coming and going of the fishing boats. Cove House had been owned by the same Mevagissey fishing family since it's construction in the 1890's until 2012. In the summer of 2012 the house was completely refurbished and modernised, many of it's original features have been preserved. The house is entered through the front porch, into the hall, on the left is the lounge and on the right the kitchen and dining room. To the rear are the stairs, a separate wc. and a large bathroom. On the first floor are two large double bedrooms and a shower room with wc. On the second floor is a large bedroom with 3 single beds. To the rear is a small enclosed courtyard with table and chairs. At the front is a seating area from which to enjoy the stunning views There is full oil fired central heating which also heats the water. Both showers are electric. There are electric fires in the lounge and dining rooms. Like most houses in Mevagissey, Cove House is situated has no off road parking. However there is parking in a quite cul-de-sac only 250 yards walk away, or in the town carpark slightly further away. The harbour is literally a stones throw away and the village, with it's pubs, restaurants and shops , is a very short distance. But where ever you go in Mevagissey be prepared for short, steep walks. Mevagissey is the ideal base from which to explore Cornwall and it's many attractions. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are within walking distance and the Eden Project is a short drive. Lanhydroc House and gardens are thirty minutes drive. In Mevagissey itself the aquarium is well worth a visit as is 00 gage model railway. Polkirt Hill is on the South West Coastal Path. During the summer there is a regular ferry service to Fowey.

We had a fantastic week in Mevagissey staying in Cove House. It has been beautifully refurbished, very tastefully done. It has all mod cons and feels like home from home. There is no parking outside the house but don't let that put you off. There is a drop off point for taking your luggage into the house and there is parking further round in a residential area, there is a cut through just up from the house, it is quite steep but good exercise. The house has fantastic views and we enjoyed sitting in the window seat watching all the goings on in the harbour. The house is in a great location with lots to see in Mevagissey. There are lots of places to eat in Mevagissey and it's great that they are all in walking distance. We did a coastal walk which started right outside the house, we walked for about 4 1/2 miles to a lovely cove.

All in all, a great house in a great place, we highly recommend it.

Activity and Interests

Cove House is situated immediately above Mevagissey Harbour. It is a 200 meter walk down to the harbour quay. The beach at Port Mellon is a ten minute walk away. Gorrren Haven is beach 40 minutes walk along the cost path. The Vault is a beautiful long sand and shingle beach slightly further away, accessed further along the Coastal path or alternatively by car, parking in the national trust car park and walking a short distance. The many other beaches of Cornwall are a car drive away.

The Lost Gardens of Helligan is 40 minutes walk or a short drive. The Eden Project is twenty minutes drive. Many of the coastal towns and villages are woth a visit. St.Mawes and Fowey are very popular. Cove House is situated virtually on the South West England coastal path.

Mevagissey has several good restaurants as well as the neumerous pubs which all provide good food. As you would expect locally caught sea food is speciality of many. There is a small supermarket, newsagents, bank and post office in the village centre. Also a bakers and green grocers as well as a host of art and clothing stores. The larger supermarkets are a ten minute drive away in StAustel.
