The Farm Il Frantoio di Vicopisano came into being from Nicola Bovoli and his family’s love for food, quality and the Tuscan landscape.
The adventure began in the Eighties when they bought a farmhouse, a mill and about ten hectares of olive trees in the beautiful medieval village of Vicopisano, on the lower slopes of the Monte Pisano.
Today the organic farm produces an award winning olive oil, a wonderful red wine from the Sangiovese grape, and various other organic produce which is available for purchase not only throughout Italy and at the farm's own shop but also in exclusive outlets in America.
Nicola and his wife Lucia are both from Tuscany and have 2 children; Simona their daughter lives on the farm and works in the office and is very much hands on in the business and she is also a qualified and professional olive oil taster, nephew Francesco and his wife Valentina also work at the farm. Francesco works the land, tends the olives and sometimes jumps off his tractor to offer guided tours round the mill and farm!
Valentina helps with bookings alongside Marie and Lorenzo who are English speaking booking agents who are based in the village, it is Marie and Lorenzo who will initially deal with your booking enquiries.
Marie & Lorenzo (pictured) are not Bovili family members but have come to know and love this idyllic place on the hill and the hospitality of the family. Marie is British and will be on hand for all English Language enquiries, although all the Bovili family do speak English and there will always be a family member close at hand during your stay. .
Marie & Lorenzo purchased this apartment in 1980
.The property was purchased initially with a view to starting the olive oil business, however it was the love of the Tuscan landscape and the favorable micro climate which swayed the decision for the Bovili family to settle in this area. The farm is surrounded by almost 3000 olive trees, a large vineyard, a rich orchard and a sweet smelling pine forest. At the heart of the estate stands an ancient olive oil mill (Frantoio) where all the freshly picked olives are turned into the golden oil .
The farm (Frantoio) is also ideally situated close to the village of Vicopisano and all its amenities. The village is known as one of the most beautiful villages in Tuscany and is ideally situated close to the city of Pisa and it’s international airport and within easy reach of the beautiful Tuscan cities of Lucca and Florence and just 30 minutes away from the Pisan coast and golf courses .
We stayed the first week in April and the weather was glorious. The apartment was very pretty and the photographs and description of the property are very accurate.
The owners are really friendly and happy to help you with anything you may need. Marie and Lorenzo who will manage your bookings are there as much or as little as you need happy to answer any questions you may have and provide you with directions etc.
On our first evening we were made to feel so welcome met with some new friends in the village at a lovely wine bar called Borgo Maggiore. The owners were extremely welcoming even made my boyfriends his favourite Tiramisu desert for when we returned for dinner the Wednesday evening. This wine bar is a must for you to drop into delicious food and lovely wine. They also have some fun cocktails :-)
The village is a lovely place to relax with a wine or two and there a couple of wine bars, restaurants and Pizzeria's. We didn't hire a car instead explored on buses, trains and good old fashioned walking. We got to visit Florence, Pisa and Lucca in the 3 full days were stayed but would love to of stayed longer so we could explore further.
The Kiwi liqueur in the farm shop on site is delicious and an excellent night cap after a busy day site seeing.
If you chose this apartment and village I am sure you will have an amazing time as we did.
Enjoyed a wonderful week here in late August early September. The weather was great and the location amazing. 1 hour to Florence and Volterra,1/2 to Lucca and Pisa, all must visit places. We didn't make the beach but also within travelling distance
The apartment was clean and spacious , basic but comfy with a big Tuscan bed. the setting was idyllic on an organic olive farm with lovely views and a 5 minute walk into the little medieval village with handy supermarket .... one word of warning .. the shops are not open on Sundays ! Definitely recommend.
