About Marie & Lorenzo

The Farm Il Frantoio di Vicopisano came into being from Nicola Bovoli and his family’s love for food, quality and the Tuscan landscape.

The adventure began in the Eighties when they bought a farmhouse, a mill and about ten hectares of olive trees in the beautiful medieval village of Vicopisano, on the lower slopes of the Monte Pisano.

Today the organic farm produces an award winning olive oil, a wonderful red wine from the Sangiovese grape, and various other organic produce which is available for purchase not only throughout Italy and at the farm's own shop but also in exclusive outlets in America.

Nicola and his wife Lucia are both from Tuscany and have 2 children; Simona their daughter lives on the farm and works in the office and is very much hands on in the business and she is also a qualified and professional olive oil taster, nephew Francesco and his wife Valentina also work at the farm. Francesco works the land, tends the olives and sometimes jumps off his tractor to offer guided tours round the mill and farm!

Valentina helps with bookings alongside Marie and Lorenzo who are English speaking booking agents who are based in the village, it is Marie and Lorenzo who will initially deal with your booking enquiries.

Marie & Lorenzo (pictured) are not Bovili family members but have come to know and love this idyllic place on the hill and the hospitality of the family. Marie is British and will be on hand for all English Language enquiries, although all the Bovili family do speak English and there will always be a family member close at hand during your stay. .

Marie & Lorenzo purchased this apartment in 1980

Why Marie & Lorenzo chose Pisa area

.The property was purchased initially with a view to starting the olive oil business, however it was the love of the Tuscan landscape and the favorable micro climate which swayed the decision for the Bovili family to settle in this area. The farm is surrounded by almost 3000 olive trees, a large vineyard, a rich orchard and a sweet smelling pine forest. At the heart of the estate stands an ancient olive oil mill (Frantoio) where all the freshly picked olives are turned into the golden oil .

What makes this apartment unique

The farm (Frantoio) is also ideally situated close to the village of Vicopisano and all its amenities. The village is known as one of the most beautiful villages in Tuscany and is ideally situated close to the city of Pisa and it’s international airport and within easy reach of the beautiful Tuscan cities of Lucca and Florence and just 30 minutes away from the Pisan coast and golf courses .

Wonderful vacation on an Olive Farm in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

We can't say enough about how we fell in love with the farm, the town of Vicopisano and Tuscany in general! Thanks to Marie and Lorenzo for helping us get our stay organized. Marie was always responsive to questions and gave us lot of information for our stay - driving instructions, where to eat & shop and what to enjoy!

Lucia (the owner) and the farm staff were helpful any time we needed something. Marco was the host for our olive farm tour and tasting. What a wonderful way to truly understand the journey of olives from the tree to your table!

We loved our apartment; cooked most of our own meals on site and enjoyed the patio, especially at coffee time! We spent our time walking to and around the town of Vicopisano and driving through the countryside, visiting the small towns along the way. The tour of the Brunelleschi tower (which is the view out the bedroom window) is well worth it. This location provides easy access to Florence, Pisa and Lucca as well as lesser known sites like the Vespa museum in Pontedera.

Owner's Response: Dear Ronald, how great to hear that you fell in love with our little corner of Tuscany and thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for Appartamento Limone. It’s so nice to hear when our guests love to spend time soaking up the local atmosphere whilst enjoying the local culture and traditions. The olive tasting experience is always a big hit with our guests so we were pleased to hear that you enjoyed the tour with Marco. The Brunelleschi tower and fortress is also a favourite so we pleased that you got to explore this wonderful monument. Lastly, we must say it was lovely to meet you and thank you for being such great guests, we do hope you come back and visit us again one day in the future. Until we meet again take care and warmest wishes Marie, Lorenzo and all of the staff and the farm

Nice location near Vicopisano

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our four nights at the Olive plantation in Vicopisano. Our hosts were great, meeting us the first night and showing us around the apartment. It would have been nice if they had turned the heat on for our arrival but not a big deal. The apartment had a nice little patio with a great view of the medieval tower across the farm fields which would certainly have been great had we been there in summer weather. The village is in a great location for sightseeing at Pisa, Lucas, San Gimignano, Siena and even Cinque Terre is just 2 hours away by car.

It was handy to have a washing machine at this point in our travels but with October temps it was a very slow process to dry our clothes - probably dryers are not as common as in North America but it is a priority for tourists doing laundry with short timelines.

Suggestion for the hosts would be to apply some felt pads under the table and chair feet as the furniture is verynloud when moved on the tile floor. The other apartment occupants also noted this when we chatted the morning of our departure.

Acccommodations were simple but all that we needed and the price was excellent. Very happy with our choice.

Thank you for all the great info in advance of our arrival and available in the unit - very helpful.

Excellent Holiday in Vicopisano

  • 5 of 5

We travelled to Italy for a week's relaxation. The accommodation on the farm was lovely and the owners and their family and staff were very friendly and helpful. The agents who looked after the booking were Marie & Lorenzo. They were brilliant, and great company. They took us out on a wine tasting trip, which was was great fun and they also invited us to an olive oil tasting tour of the farm we were staying on, which was also a wonderful experience.

We found the town of Vicopisano a delight, the restaurants and pizzerias were excellent, we could not fault anything. Our only complaint, was that we only booked a week, we should have booked for two weeks!

We found this villa on the internet and having never been to Italy before did not know what to expect. What can I say this villa and the surrounding area is a little gem. For us it was perfect, however, if there had been more than two of us we may have been fighting for space. (But unless we had very young children we would have booked somewhere bigger). From arrival to departure we could not have been made more welcome or given more help. Anna was an angel especially with directions to Pisa. Everyone else on the vineyard was extremely friendly even if they did not speak very good English. The villa was extremely clean and had everything we needed for our two weeks.

Wonderful Holiday and Wonderful People

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week here in May and didn't want to leave!

Booking our trip was a breeze with the help of Marie who provided us with lots of brilliant information and helped out with our transportation problems. The whole Bovoli family were very welcoming and friendly and only too happy to help us.

The apartment had a stunning view over to the medieval village of Vicopisano and inside was clean and spacious. The kitchen was well equipped and there was plenty of seating.

The whole area was beautiful and we even managed to arrive in time for the fireflies to light the evenings.

We wandered into the village for aperitifs at the wine bar and supplies from the shops. We chose not to hire a car which restricted us more to the immediate area, but everything we needed was in walking distance, including two good restaurants. We would recommend hiring a car if you want to see more of Tuscany and have more of a sightseeing trip. Although getting the bus to Pisa was simple and cheap, but after a day in the city we missed the peace and quiet of the beautiful olive farm.

Owner's Response: Dear George S Thank you for your wonderful review of your stay at Appartamento Limone. It was lovely to read that you enjoyed discovering Vicopisano and that you were able to witness the magical display of fireflies during your stay. Thank you for your kind words regarding the apartment and we were pleased to hear that you found our guest information helpful. We are sure our future guests will find you review very helpful especially your comments regarding car hire. As you discovered to visit more of the region a car is necessary however as you also stated in your review that the city of Pisa with its famous Leaning Tower is not too far away and accessible via public transport - it is also possible to visit the city of Florence from the nearby railway station. Finally we would like to thank you again for your support in choosing Appartamento Limone for your holiday in Tuscany and we are very much hoping that you will return to visit us again one day. Till then take care and warmest regards The Bovoli family, Marie and lorenzo

Apartamento Limone

  • 5 of 5

Apartment was on a working organic Olive and Vineyard and was immaculately clean and tidy. All creature comforts were provided with the added benefit of the shop selling wine and oil right next to us. The farm was quiet with stunning views over the medieval town and towers which had a small but adequate selection of bars and shops. The location of the farm made it easy to find from Pisa airport and allowed us to discover all the main cities and attractons by car on each day with no more than a couple of hours return trip. If it was peace and quiet you want, the local walks are just as relaxing so it made for a romantic stay.

The family that owned the farm were extremely helpful and very friendly; the olive tasting was a real treat and we would recommend this place without hesitation as a base to explore Tuscany.
