About the Owner

We have lived in the Bordeaux wine region since 1991 and have thus accrued an enormous amount of local knowledge about the region, it's history, the vineyards and restaurants.

We are constantly upgrading the property and gardens. See ouw our site: bordeaux-holiday-rentals.com

The grounds are a child's paradise with a pool, trampoline, chickens and wildlife.

Our own house backs onto the same grounds, so although the guests' area is private, we are on hand for advice & help if required.

We prefer that guests book directly with us so that they don't pay listing sites commission or bookings fees on top of our rates.

"Wonderful Family Holiday"

This house is a fabulous place to base yourself for a family holiday in the Bordeaux area. Lesley and David are the perfect hosts who will give you lots of practical information on places to go, local markets, restaurants etc. This is usually with a glass of wine next to the swimming pool on your first day (a great way to start!) The house has plenty of room for a big family and a great garden with a variety of amusements for everyone with a swimming pool, spa, play equipment and of course the chickens and Elgar the cat.

The kitchen is very well equipped and you can cook up a storm with ingredients from the local markets. The washing machine and clothes line (and dryer if you need it) are all very handy for a travelling family.

My wife and I and our three adult children spent 4 terrific weeks at Chez Emilion. We were looking for a house that easily accommodate us and that meant good sized bedrooms and at least three bathrooms and this place was perfect. It is located about 30 minutes outside Bordeaux by car but the best and cheapest way to access the city is to drive to the park and ride about 15 minutes away and then catch the tram. The property is located at Guariaguet, a small village, and from there we were able to drive to a great many interesting and historic locations. Of course the wine producing area around Bordeaux is reputed to be the biggest in France so that featured a lot in our travel. David and Lesley Proctor were great hosts. Friendly and always available for help or advice. Then of course were the animals that made Chez Emilion a special place. Chooks, dogs and cats occupied a lot of our attention. In particular we had a constant companion in Elgar, a beautiful tabby cat. We all miss Elgar but we know he will always have a lot of friends from around the world who have spoilt him just like we did.

Chez Emilion is a perfect place for families or a group of friends. We recommend it highly.

"Peaceful, beautiful and a wonderful place to venture out from to see the sights"

This location is perfect as long as you are prepared to rent a car. The location is close to Bordeaux - with an easy tram ride into the heart of the city so you don't have to worry about driving downtown. It is also 30 minutes to 1 hour away from other major must see locations such as St. Emilion, Blaye, Cognac and of course the fabulous beaches. Our hosts also helped us to arrange a day long wine tour of the St Emilion area which was wonderful and enjoyed by all.

Our hosts David and Lesley were absolutely marvelous. They were nearby and always responsive when called upon for advice and directions. They also very generously shared fresh eggs with us from their chickens and welcomed us with some wonderful local wine and snacks on our first day. Throughout the holiday they were gracious, always available and never intrusive.

The house was extremely clean and well kept.

A wonderful place

  • 5 of 5

This year was our tenth visit. That statement alone should tell you something about this wonderful place. As a family group of 7 we have enjoyed this special "home from home" for many years. Our children have grown up enjoying the freedom, sunshine and wonderful environment that is provided here. As a location it provides easy access to beaches, La Porge being our favourite. It offers a wide sandy beach with more space than you will find in most resorts in Europe. There are many good restaurants close by, which provide a good excuse to sample the local wines, which do not disappoint. Bordeaux is within easy reach and is well worth a visit. Of course if you enjoy just getting in the car and seeing where it takes you, this is the place for you. As for the actual property it does not disappoint. The pool is always clean and well maintained. The rooms are clean and bright and the beds comfortable. They are just like the pictures displayed on the website. The kitchen is fully equipped and is able to support our hungry family, who love to cook huge meals and eat outside in the evening, either under the stars or in the lovely sunroom. Of course we have left the best until last, the wonderful hosts Lesley and David. They are the secret ingredient in this fabulous holiday. Friendly, warm, hospitable and always willing to help with any information you may want. We would not hesitate to recommend this holiday to any of our friends or relatives. Our children, who are now adults often talk about the holidays they have enjoyed here and have actually thanked us for giving them such wonderful memories to cherish. Surely there can't be a higher recommendation.

A perfect holiday destination

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit in 3 years and each time we fall more and more in love with Chez Emilion, it really does have everything you could possibly want for a relaxing holiday and the owners, Lesley and David, are the perfect hosts. The property externally has everything; hot tub, solar heated pool, magnificent grounds, table tennis, play equipment and the accommodation itself is very spacious with all you could want for your stay. The downstairs bedroom & wetroom/bathroom worked particularly well for our wheelchair user and all the beds were extremely comfortable. The whole holiday experience was wonderful, we fell in love with the chickens (and their freshly laid eggs) and George, the guinea fowl who all became regular visitors. We also fell in love with Elgar, the friendliest cat you could wish to meet. We didn't actually do much sightseeing because we were so happy relaxing at Chez Emilion but we did the take the tram into Bordeaux, which couldn't have been easier, and we drove to the stunning St Emilion. If you are fortunate enough to holiday during July and August I would advise you to go along to a Marçenais evening where you can get to experience a real French social event - wonderful food, drink and musical entertainment. Although the accommodation in itself would ensure a great holiday I think it is Lesley and David that add that something extra, nothing is ever too much trouble and they will do all they can to ensure your holiday is exactly what you want it to be. For us it is definitely going to take some beating!

Owner's Response: Always such a pleasure to have the Bowd family here - they really appreciate all that the region has to offer. Mr Bowd was the first person to get a shot of a Crested Hoopoe!

Introduction to Bordeaux

  • 5 of 5

This was my first visit to Chez Emilion and I could not have had a better introduction to this beautiful region of France. I particularly enjoyed visiting the Sunday market at Bourg sur Gironde and my visits to Bordeaux itself, a beautiful old city with much to see, St Emilion and Blaye.

On the couple of occasions when I needed to use the internet, the connection was very fast.

In addition, the food and wine were wonderful and my bed extremely comfortable. If you fancy a lazy evening with no cooking, the pizzas from La Fourchette, in Gauriaget, are excellent.

David and Lesley did everything possible to make my stay an enjoyable and memorable one and, as the icing on the cake, the weather was warm and sunny, even in late October.

Lovely holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We have had a lovely two weeks here in Chez Emilion. The first week with friends who have never holidayed in France before (and will now definitely return) and the second week with family and lovely freinds. We so enjoyed the house, its calm, its space, garden ( and chickens).

Thank you for introducing us to the food festivals in Marcenais - so good we went twice!

Many thanks for your hospitality!
