Listed Cottage in Historic Market Town Near to North Coast, Padstow and Newquay

Overview

Property

Updated: 07-Dec-2016
Sleeps 2 + Parking - Newly Refurbished - In a Quiet Setting Close to Shops.

Grove House Cottage is entirely self-contained with its own front door. It forms part of Grove House, a pretty and typically Cornish stone and slate Grade II Listed Georgian town house. It is tucked away in a quiet corner of the conservation area in the small, friendly, historic market town of St Columb Major.

It has recently been restored and refurbished to a high standard together with the main house. It is compact and comfortable and has lots of character.

Upstairs the bedroom has a generous 160cm wide double bed. Next to the bedroom is a contemporary shower room.

Downstairs the living space includes a small kitchen and dining area. There is also a light and sunny conservatory with table and chairs, a courtyard with outside seating and views of the side garden and an off-road parking space.

We also offer mountain bike and surfboard hire and secure bike and surfboard storage.

St Columb Major town centre, which has a range of small shops and services catering for day to day needs, is only a 3 minute walk away.

Just 5 minutes from Newquay Airport and 7 minutes from some of Cornwall's finest North Coast beaches (Eg: Watergate Bay, Mawgan Porth, Bedruthan Steps) St Columb Major is ideally situated to explore all of Cornwall. The North and South Coasts, Padstow and the Camel Estuary, Newquay, The Eden Project, Truro, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Bodmin Moor, St Ives with its Tate Gallery and numerous National Trust properties are all within easy reach.

From Grove House Cottage there is a beautiful walk to Mawgan Porth beach that takes approximately 1 1/2 hours. The walk starts on a very quiet country lane, followed by footpaths running through the wooded Carnanton Estate and open countryside. Half-way it passes through the picturesque village of St Mawgan-in-Pydar with its pretty pub and tearoom.

Our changeover day is on a Friday and guests can arrive from 4pm onwards - just let us know your approximate arrival time and we will arrange to be here to meet you and show you round. Departure time is 10am. In low season we can sometimes be flexible regarding the changeover day and the minimum number of nights. We apply a 10% discount to 14 night bookings.

About the Owner

We used to love coming to Cornwall camping and in my husbands case, surfing!

We eventually managed to move here in 2002. We have always lived in St. Columb Major and in 2008 bought a run-down Grade II Listed Georgian house in the heart of the town and commenced an extensive restoration and refurbishment program, which is almost complete!

Our son & daughter attend a local primary school and we have a rescue dog named Albert.

We all love living in beautiful Cornwall. It has a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with lots of interesting things to do.

Ideal base to see the North Cornwall Coast

  • 5 of 5

This 2 person bijou annex is ideal for walkers who want to explore the beautiful coastal walks. Anna and Justin live next door and are available if you need anything, with valuable local information. The annex is totally self contained with its own private courtyard, which was ideal for our outdoor breakfasts. The village is traditional Cornish with very narrow streets but an excellent Co-op where you can get anything. Also the village has 2 butchers and I recommend their own cured bacon and jelly free meat pies( We bought a dozen as we left!!) Padstow is only 6 miles away with the famous Rich Stein restaurants, these were excellent and reasonably priced. Overall there is so much to see from this ideal base and was an haven to come home to after a full days sightseeing, I thoroughly recommend it.

Perfect base

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is located in the centre of the tiny village which is 'real' Cornwall, everyone so friendly. The cottage is small but ideal for 2 people who want a comfortable & well appointed base for exploring or getting to the coast in approx 10 minutes. Local walks are good too. Anna & Justin live in the attached main house and are the perfect hosts, very friendly and full of ideas for trips out - lovely people who you could chat to for hours ! We fell in love with the local area and would not hesitate to book again..............which we will.

Excellent small cottage for two people.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here - Anna and Justin were great hosts who were there if needed but never intruded. We loved St Columb and it was a good base to enable us to visit both the North and South coasts. The cottage is delightful - very small but all we needed. We would strongly recommend it.

We loved the Annex in St Columb.

  • 5 of 5

A quaint ‘bijou’ met us on our arrival along with the lovely Anna. The Annex has been finished to an excellent standard and catered perfectly for our weeks stay.

To be woken by the local church bells and to hear no cars passing and then to see that view was idyllic. We use to love St Columb Major but now we love it!!

With Watergate (10 mins), Padstow (20 mins), Newquay (10 mins) and 3 other beaches (15 -25 mins) so close, it is an ideal spot.

The town (1 mins walk from the Annex) has a butcher, CO-OP, hole in the wall and more importantly some lovely friendly local people. With 4 pubs (if you like that) to choose from then bobs your uncle it has that too!

I cannot sing the towns praises enough and thank you to Anna and Justin for making us feel so welcome. We shall return!
