The cottage, which has been renovated and furnished in the simplest possible way, is situated in a quiet, sheltered valley tucked down below [10 minutes walk] England's most south westerly town St Just. The long front garden sets the cottages back from the quiet road and the covered back porch and quiet back garden backing on to a meadow where ponies are kept add to the semi-rural charm. From the cottage the cliffs and the moors are 10-15 minutes walk.
I am a stone carver and musician: I specialize in lettering and relief carving, and play the violin and guitar
in a local string swing band. My workshop is near St Buryan. I also make porches, sheds and cabins.
Joseph Hemming purchased this cottage in 2008
I'd always loved the area ..... the very far west of West Cornwall [ I'm originally from near Falmouth ] and was very excited when what is now my little cottage came on the market .... it's a small miner's cottage in a lovely quiet sheltered valley in the hamlet of Tregeseal tucked down below [ ten minutes walk ] St Just .
There are lovely walks from the cottage up on to the moors or down to the stunning cliffs at Cape Cornwall Kenydjack and the beautiful cliff paths heading in either direction .
There's a longish front garden and a quiet back area [ with covered back porch ]
and garden which backs on to the small 99.9% unused access lane ..... beyond which is a meadow that's mostly used for ponies . A small shed at the back would be a good place to keep bicycles ....
It's a small but very charming cottage. The downstairs
is one open plan room with a sofa, armchair, window-
seat multi fuel stove, TV, with beyond the sitting room
area a kitchen area and a dining table . Through the back door is the nice covered porch which also has a table and chairs .... lovely place to eat as well as a nice quiet place to sit and talk or read....
Upstairs there is a small shower room with toilet and sink at the top of the landing , and two bedrooms : front room with double bed , and the small but charming back bedroom which looks over the back garden and has a single bed.
There is parking on the road straight outside the cottage.
We would recommend Joes cottage to anyone who wants a cosy base to explore Cornwall. St Just is just a stroll away across the fields where you can find all your requirements for your stay without having to use the car!! Beautiful Beaches and Coves to explore,
Joe was a perfect host, and made us very welcome. He was most helpful in catering for the health requirements of our young Grandaughter. We are booked for a month this year!! Cant wait!!
Joe's miners cottage was exactly what we were looking for. Bags of old school charm and an excellent spot for exploring the beautiful Cornish coast. Fresh blooms on the table when we arrived, the stove kept us cosy and we crashed out each night in the super-comfy bed. The coastal path is a 10 minute hike and the friendly pubs with good local cider and grub can be found a short walk up the hill to St Just. Don't miss the sunset at Cape Cornwall (& a pod of touring dolphins if you're lucky). Already daydreaming about our next trip.
