Overview

About the property

House in Sourzac, Dordogne, Aquitaine, France - Lovely views and swimming lakes with sandy beaches within 30 minutes.

Nestling in a small peaceful hamlet, la muscadelle is in the perfect situation to enjoy views of the surrounding countryside and woodland. It offers a lovely terrace and pool area for the day and those relaxing warm evenings. Raised, with views down the valley. Attached to the main house, the whole terrace and solar heated pool is private to you. The house is completely independent. The house provides you with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living room and inside dining room as well as outside dining for those Al fresco balmy evenings. The house is spacious, and just ideal for that much needed break away. The Double forest has man made sandy swimming lakes, walking, cycling, canoing, walking, horse riding nature reserves and large carp fishing lakes. Two of the region’s main roads (A89 and RN89) are within 5km, providing access to the many attractions nearby making this a great holiday base. Visit the many bastide villages and Chateaux in the region. The busy and popular market towns of Ribérac, Périgueux and Bergerac on the banks of the river Dordogne are all within 30km, the a89 motorway provides quick and direct access to Bordeaux and the beaches of the Atlantic ocean. 33kms from Bergerac airport. Wine tasting is fun and enjoyable and we can recommend and book a tour of the vineyards for you on request. The Dordogne is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of south west France and the visitor is spoilt for choice as to how to spend their time.

We love everything French and offer you a welcome drink on arrival. We will show you around your gite and provide you with information of the area and its main 'must do' sites, villages and areas to visit. Even if you want to 'chill' for most of your holiday it is good to know if any of these sites may be of interest to you. If you arrive late, tired and want to just rest, then we can meet up with you the next day at your convenience.

French doors from the lounge, kitchen and downstairs bedroom all provide direct access to the elevated terrace and swimming pool. One side of the terrace is covered providing an ideal spot for barbecues and outside dining. Shops and café/bar 8km, restaurant 2km. Free wifi and private parking. Clean and comfortable rooms with quality bedding. Welcome basket with wine, bread and other goodies of the region. Solar-heated swimming pool. Private parking for up to three vehicles.

About Brenda Connolly

It has been my dream to live in Beau France for many years. SW France has the climate, food and wine and we have always found the people very welcoming and friendly. Also a distinct lack of traffic on the roads. Always loved to come and stay here on holidays and then found we were visiting close friends more and more who had already moved here. We were being left behind! I was a financial adviser back in the UK and life had always been very busy with no real time to relax.

So with my partner Michael we finally moved here in 2008 and started a bed and breakfast amongst the vineyards of Monbazillac. We enjoyed a successful 6 years and decided to expand and have a house to rent as well. We have moved from the vineyards into the lovely countryside with its surrounding forests and sandy lakes.

Brenda Connolly purchased this house in 2014

Why Brenda Connolly chose Perigord Blanc

This area is very quiet, in the countryside, yet still near to villages and market towns. Easy access from the motorway and smaller routes.

What makes this house unique

The woods are behind us and ideal for cycling and walking. Being on the edge of the Double Forest we have lovely swimming lakes with sandy beaches just 30 minutes from us.

Guestbook comments from the manager

28/6/2014 - 12/7/2014. Don, Janet and family - Dorset and London.

We have had a 'brilliant' holiday in Filloulas. we have been here lots of times and it just gets better and better. We love it here, we have been to Sarlat, Bordeaux, Riberac, Domme, wonderful Sunday markets at Issegeac, Bergerac, Brantome - so much to see and do. And of course the pool, we enjoyed that to. Brenda and Mike our new hosts are lovely, they are very friendly and helpful and we look forward to seeing them again when we come back again. Thanks Folks!! Au revoir, A bientot. 19/07/2014 - 09/08/2014. Ashley, Louise, Sesyn, Richard and Ann - Cotswolds.

Our third year in Filloulas and what a joy with all the family as they passed through. Lovely to meet the new owners Mike and Brenda. Spent a lovely three weeks here this year - new sites to see, Le Gouffre Du Padirac (a must!)

and La Site du Grand Roc (along with La Cave Du Rossignac - both can be done in one day). If weather is good also try L'etang of Jemaye. It has been a beautiful three weeks and we look forward to returning here our fourth time next year. Best wishes to Mike and Brenda for the next 12 months! The Hunt family xx

Notes:
Outside: Outside on the terrace we have a covered area with a large table and seating for 'alfresco' dining. The pool is private to you and heated by solar. It is a nice size at 8.5m x 4.5m. The depths are 1 metre at the shallow end with the Roman steps. 1.3 in the middle part and 1.8 at the deep end. So very suitable for non swimmers or young children as well as strong swimmers. There is also a covered terrace just outside the downstairs rooms with tables and chair loungers. This provides extra protection from the heat of the sun as well as plenty of loungers and umbrellas on the terrace. A BBQ for cooking outside. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. We provide swimming pool towels at no extra cost on request. We provide fresh linens/towels each week. If you wish for your rooms to be cleaned again throughout after 7 days then we will make an additional charge for this. Other: The large entrance hall is also the inside dining area and library. There are three full book cases with authors familiar to all readers. Board games for children and adults. Dining Room Table with 6 chairs.

A beautiful secluded location with a warm welcome.

  • 5 of 5

La Muscadelle has the perfect combination of a secluded, away from it all location, whilst being within easy reach (5 mins) of Mussidan which has everything you could possibly want for. The accommodation is very comfortable and beautifully presented. The pool area looks exactly like it does in the pictures but even they don't really do it justice.

Arriving after a long drive the welcome from Mike and Brenda was warm indeed. We were a little early and so the Gite wasn't quite ready, but Brenda took us in, made us a much needed coffee and soft drinks for the kids and made us feel right at home.

Any minor problems that we had Mike sorted straight away and nothing was too much trouble.

We loved La Muscadelle and would recommend it to anyone.

Thanks Mike and Brenda, we wish we were still there.

Warm welcome and excellent standard

  • 5 of 5

First thing to mention is the warmest of welcomes given by hosts Brenda & Mike. We were greeted as though we were part of the family (even being included in a "family" barbecue which was lovely). At the same time they respected our space and weren't at all intrusive. A welcome pack of staples eg bread, milk, butter etc was really thoughtful and the range of info about the local area may even have outdone the local Office de Tourisme! Superb hosts with lots of experience and high standards both in the way they treat their guests and in the accommodation and facilities provided.

Parking was a major factor for us, and the ample parking area available at the front of the gite in this quiet and tranquil hamlet was great. If you want peace and quiet then this is the place to go - stunning location overlooking the countryside from a great vantage point, you would never know you were only 5 minutes from a motorway. Ideally situated in the middle of key tourist sites in the region from Sarlat in the East, Bordeaux and vineyards in the West, Brantome in the North and Bergerac to the South.

Accommodation was very well appointed with high standards of furnishings, clean and well-kept. Standard of bed linen, pillows and bedding was superb, plenty of hangers in the wardrobe (which is very welcome), plenty of drawers for clothes; plenty of towels provided; comfortable sofas and widescreen TV with freesat in the sitting room which was excellent.

The kitchen was well equipped and lots of essential extras were provided such as foil, cling film, cooking oil, tea, sugar, kitchen roll, bin bags, washing up/dishwashing liquid etc. Cooking in self-catering can be frustrating but the kitchen had everything you need, and all of it was in good condition. None of the "yuk, I'm not using that" moments that we often have! We even used the cheese grater which would usually be avoided at all costs!

The pool was superb - the sitting room, bedroom and kitchen lead out to the pool which was a great size. The solar heating for the pool worked well and it was a decent temperature. Loads of seating and equipment provided so you could happily spend time at the gite enjoying the peace, quiet and facilities.

This really was a home from home - excellent location, high standard accommodation, very comfortable with everything you need for a great holiday. Would highly recommend and will definitely return if/when we're in the region again.

West coast Beaches. Natural beach by a lake.
Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

The West Coast beaches are 1 hour plus 45 minutes from us so do-able in the day. But, we do have sandy beaches and lakes within 30 minutes. These sandy beaches are man made with large lakes and with all the conveniences you would expect. They are well managed with lifeguards, purity of water checked regularly, canoing, children's safe play areas, restaurants and shops. There are pictures of Jemaye Beach included in the photos on display.

Travel:

We are 55 minutes from Bordeaux Airport. 35 minutes from Bergerac Airport. 1hr 10mins to Brive Airport. We are not far to the motorway which is helpful if you are driving from a port. We would recommend that car hire is essential. We can also recommend a car hire company if required.

Distances:

We are 5 minutes by car to the nearest villages. Which both have excellent restaurants. We are 8 minutes from a large market town which offers restaurants, bars, banks and shops. We can recommend restaurants to you. It also offers the main supermarkets Intermarche, Lydl, and SuperU.

Further Details:

Visit the Montréal Chateau nearby to us.

Claude de Pontbriant, the Lord of Montréal, cupbearer of the Dauphin, was, on 3 October 1535, alongside Jacques Cartier on the banks of the Saint Laurent River when the navigator gave his name to an Indian village which later was to become the second largest French city in the world. The Pontbriant family founded the City of Montreal in Canada and named if after the castle we see here today.

The well known World Heritage site of St Emilion at (102km) with its historical architecture, famous wine and available vineyard tours which include wine tasting.

Bergerac vineyard tours (35kms) we can recommend where you should go to taste and buy superb wine at a good price. We lived in the Bergerac wine area for 6 years.

For the more 'energetic', there is canoeing, walking, horse riding, cycling and swimming.

A visit to the famous Lascaux caves is a must.
