Barn in High Ham, Langport, Somerset, England - Rural Location In The Heart Of Somerset

The Old Dairy is a beautiful property located on a working family farm in the middle of High Ham. Newly converted and let for the first time in 2014, this property has a spacious feel and beautiful views over surrounding farmland and Glastonbury Tor. An entrance hallway leads to an open plan kitchen dining room and further to a large living room with patio doors to the garden. The property has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and can sleep up to 6 persons (with a double sofa bed in the living room). The local area is beautiful for walking and cycling, and we are close to Glastonbury, Street and Wells, which provide many opportunities for days out, shopping and dining.

About Jane Vigar

Manor Farm is a working family farm, currently run by Jane and John Vigar. John grew up here on the farm, and came home to work after finishing at Agricultural college in Devon. The couple brought up their three children on the farm, and continue to welcome young members of the extended family who love to visit. Their eldest, Andrew, lives nearby and now works closely with his parents. John, Jane and Andrew farm a large sheep flock and a beef cattle herd on land adjoining or close to the farmhouse. When not farming, John is a keen member of the parish council and the local bellringers, while Jane enjoys spending time in her garden.

What makes this barn unique

After stopping the milking of their dairy herd in 2005, John and Jane realised that the old dairy had the potential to be a great holiday home due to its large size and spectacular views. The village is a welcoming and friendly community, and this area is popular with holidaymakers.

Superb location and great facilities with a very friendly welcome

Thankyou Jane for what was my second stay in The Old Dairy. I stayed with some friends last year for the Tour of Wessex and had great memories. This time I brought the family and enjoyed a fantastic weekend. The old Dairy was even better than I remembered. The children loved being able to get close to the animals and especially feeding the lambs. We arrived very late in the evening and Jane even left us milk to make a well needed cup of tea. I am now trying to plan another trip. thankyou from the Quirkes

Excellent stay experience!

Very well maintained, spacious property in a nice quiet village, perfect place to relax. Good view of glastonbury tor. We were a family of three and my 6 year old son absolutely loved it. Jane was very kind to take him to the farm to feed the lambs, pigs and the chicken.

Spacious, comfortable cottage on a farm in a great location

This two bedroom and two bath cottage with a large kitchen/dining area and living room allowed us, a family of two adults and two kids, to have a wonderful vacation. The cottage was spotlessly clean, new and well appointed with everything we needed. The barn conversion retained its original character which added to the charm. An added bonus were the owners, Jane and John, allowing our kids and us to experience farm life. The view from the cottage and garden towards Glastonbury Tor was spectacular. The village does not have many amenities but a short car drive gets you to grocery stores and many country pubs. We would love to come back again and spend some more time relaxing and exploring!

Could not fault it in any way, perfect get away for relaxing break

The property was beautiful, it had everything you could need and more, the views were amazing, the barn conversion was modern yet full of character and homely. The owner was very welcoming & friendly. We would definitely highly recommend this property for a holiday and will certainly be looking to stay there again.

This property is situated in a working farm, so lambing time (March/April) is always interesting!

Coast/Beach:

Somerset coastline (Burnham on sea) approximately 20 miles

Dorset coastline (Lyme Regis and West Bay) approximately 30 miles

Travel:

Car hire/use highly recommended.

From the North, we are approximately half an hour by car from Junction 23 of the M5 (Puriton)

From London, the quickest route is via the A303; we are approximately 20 minutes from Podimore roundabout

The closest train stations are Castle Cary and Taunton (both on the direct line from Paddington), Yeovil Junction (direct from Waterloo) and Yeovil Pen Mill.

Distances:

High Ham is a rural village and a welcoming community. Village amenities include a church, playing field (with BMX track), pub and post box.

The village has enviable views across the Somerset Levels, including to the town of Glastonbury and the City of Wells.

The town of Langport is approximately 3 miles away, and has a relatively large Tescos store, alongside a number of independent businesses on the high street (butchers, bakers, etc.) a bank (natwest) and a petrol station.

Further Details:

The towns of Glastonbury, Taunton, Salisbury, and Bath, alongside the cities of Wells, Bristol and Exeter, are all comfortably within day-trip distance.

Clarks Village, an outlet shopping centre, is 20 minutes drive (very near Glastonbury).

There are a number of local attractions suitable for families, including Cheddar Gorge, the Fleet Air Arm Museum and Wookey Hole Caves.

A number of National Trust properties are close by, including Montacute House, Barrington Court and Glastonbury Tor.

There is a farm shop in Pitney, a nearby village, which sells a wide range of local produce.

There are a number of great pubs in the area, including the Halfway House at Pitney, which won the CAMRA summer pub of the year in 2013. John and Jane are always happy to give recommendations depending on what you’re looking for!
