Our self catering 1st floor flat is located over our former stable/outbuilding and is separate from and not overlooked by our main house. The Hayloft is sheltered by trees and surrounded by arable farmland. On the balcony you can enjoy a glass of wine in the afternoon and evening sun. We are just 3½ miles from coastal villages with restaurants, pubs, fish & chip shops, Chinese and Indian take-away, Co-op mini supermarkets and a wonderful bakery. Nearby you can enjoy golf, horse riding, quad biking, mountain biking (we can lend you a couple of bikes) dolphin watching from the beach and boat trips. There are swimming pools in Inverness and Dingwall. It is just over an hour drive to Ullapool on the West Coast and the mountains and lochs of the Highlands are within easy reach.

About Su and John Hay
We love peace and quiet and moved here to this peaceful spot 22 years ago. After making our living editing television programmes we are approaching retirement and our family has flown the nest so we now have space to share our peace and quiet with others. The flat above our outbuilding was initially for our son to live in. He is now a cameraman in Edinburgh and so we have upgraded it for visitors to enjoy.
We love animals and birds, music, cooking and our family.

We have lived at Blairfoid on the Black Isle for 22 years. We came here 24 years ago to visit friends… several times and loved it so much we moved here. Sometimes we still feel like we are on holiday.
We love the lack of traffic, the peace and quiet and the red kites & buzzards flying overhead.
Nearby at Chanonry Point we can watch dolphins.

What a find!
A comfortable apartment, very well-equipped and exceptionally cosy with its wood-burning stove. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this well-located studio in beautiful countryside, with Sue and John being perfect hosts. We'll definitely be back.
Wonderful place ot get away from it all.
We spent a great fortnight unwinding in this cosy cottage, which, although compact, is very comfortable, clean and well-equipped. The owners were friendly and helpful, bur did not intrude. We enjoyed cycling around the Black Isle, despite some interesting weather! We very much enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it. Highlights were Cromarty, watching the dolphins, and Cawdor Castle.
Magical Hidden Gem!
By far the best holiday, and property we've stayed in, up on the Black Isle to date. It's modern, spotlessly clean, and very cozy. Owners John, and Su, are lovely people, making you very welcome on arrival. The great thing was, you were just left alone, and it was so peaceful and quiet. It was such a shame to leave and go home. But a stay here, on a return trip to the Black Isle, is a no brainer! We'd both like to thank them again, for such a special holiday.

Lovely peaceful retreat
Lovely and peaceful, a comfortable cottage with really helpful owners. Lots to see in the area. We would love to stay again.
The Hayloft is comfortable, very clean and has everything you need. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Location is rural so lovely and peaceful but not far from amenities. Wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Activity and Interests
Just 3½ miles to beaches. At Chanonry Point near Fortrose there is an extensive sand and pebble beach where dolphins can regularly be seen especially at low tide.
Rosemarkie has a very good sandy beach with beach cafe. There are picturesque old harbours nearby and Cromarty, about 10 miles away, is a unique time capsule. Here there are museums, fine 18th-century merchant houses and an ancient church made famous by the BBC’s ‘Restoration Village’.
Inverness airport 35 minutes drive away.
Car is recommended as we are 3 miles from the nearest town and bus route.
2½ miles to Avoch, 3½ to Fortrose, 4½ to Rosemarkie, 10 miles to Cromarty, 11 miles to Dingwall, 12 miles to Inverness.
In Fortrose (3½ miles) there are cash machines, bank, post office, doctors surgery, chemist, co-op, butcher, bakery and award winning pub "The Anderson" with real ale, huge selection of single malt whiskies and excellent food.
There are also good food pubs in Avoch & Rosemarkie.

Payment is usually via Bank transfer or cheque (if time allows for clearance).
A deposit is required for a booking that is made more than 8 weeks before the commencement of the holiday. Otherwise, if within 8 weeks of the start holiday, the full amount is payable when booking.
The Hayloft has a Saturday changeover. The arrival time is 4pm and departure is by 10am to allow time for cleaning etc.
Payment usually by bank transfer or cheque if time to clear.
Approximately 25% booking deposit required, with balance to be paid not less than eight weeks before start of holiday.
Owner's Cancellation Policy
- 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
- 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
