2 bed character cottage in St Issey, 3 miles from Padstow, North Cornwall - minutes from fabulous beaches and the Camel Trail

Annet is a 200+ year old gorgeous Cornish holiday cottage which is full of character and located in the centre of the little village of St Issey, just three miles from the popular ancient fishing port of Padstow. It is built from Cornish slate with exposed beams, some exposed slate walls and an original Cornish slate floor to the kitchen area. There is a large living room with comfy sofas and a woodburner for cosy nights in and a separate dining room with views onto the back garden, which is completely enclosed. There are two bedrooms upstairs. The cottage has been extensively refurbished to the highest standard, with full gas central heating, so it has a modern feel within a character cottage. The fully fitted kitchen comes with all mod cons. It has everything you would expect, including a stainless steel gas cooker & hob, a microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery etc.

The living room seats five comfortably on leather sofas and has a flat screen TV with built in DVD player. There is broadband available free in the cottage.

The cottage has two bedrooms upstairs - a large room with a 4'6" double bed and an adjoining room with 3ft twin beds, with a downstairs bathroom. The dining room is a separate room at the back of the cottage overlooking the garden and can be useful for a travel cot - our daughter used to sleep here in a travel cot when she was little.

The main bedroom has a lovely cottagey feel to it with an exposed slate wall, original stripped pine floorboards and a beautiful outlook across the road over to the church & churchyard. There is a double bed, wardrobe, drawers, bedside tables, a clock radio and a hair dryer.

Bedroom two has 3ft wide twin beds and a chest of drawers with bedside cabinet and bedside lamp. Again there are stripped pine floorboards and exposed beams.

The bathroom is downstairs and has a bath, with fabulous Mira shower over. The gas boiler is a combination boiler, which means there is always hot water no matter how many people want a bath or shower! All gas and electric costs are included in the price of your holiday, so there's no annoying meter to keep topping up!

There is a large garden to the rear, which is mainly laid to lawn, with apple trees, flower and herb borders - look for the oregano, rosemary, mint, fennel and rhubarb (in season). Please feel free to use them in your cooking! There is a public footpath to the side of the property which you can follow down to the Camel Trail, a 27 mile trail for walkers and cyclists that follows a disused railway line from Padstow, through Wadebridge and Bodmin, to Dunmere and Poley's Bridge. Padstow is a peaceful walk from the cottage and Wadebridge is a couple of hours away on foot. It's obviously a lot quicker on a bicycle! Bring your own or hire bikes in Padstow or Wadebridge.

North Cornwall has a wonderful rugged coastline which makes up part of the coastal footpath boasting spectacular scenery and endless hours of pleasure for ramblers and walkers. It offers a variety of beautiful golden beaches including: Harlyn Bay, Daymer Bay, Rock (adjacent to Padstow), Constantine Bay, Treyarnon Bay and Trevone Bay. If you enjoy visiting gardens then you will not be disappointed with The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Trelissick Gardens, all making wonderful days out. There are plenty of watersports to enjoy including surfing, kite-surfing, sailing, wind surfing, coasteering etc, and there are a choice of local golf courses to enjoy amongst beautiful coastal scenery. There is an excellent public transport service through the village of St Issey to Padstow, Wadebridge and beyond and the village also has 2 local pubs - the Ring O' Bells comes highly recommended for food, drink and local chit chat and the Pickwick has the most stunning estuary views. There are a wide range of shops in Padstow and Wadebridge, including supermarkets, hairdressers, greengrocers, galleries and gift shops and you will be spoilt for choice with many excellent and famous restaurants.

There is a car park opposite the cottage, by the church, which is available for visitors to use. Donations may be left in the box. For the enjoyment of ALL our guests, smoking is not permitted in Annet. There is an iron and ironing board and an airer, and a whirly washing line with a bag of pegs and washing basket. Bed linen can be provided at extra cost, or you can bring your own if you prefer (bottom sheet, double and single duvet covers and pillow cases are required). Please let us know if you require linen and we will ask our "linen lady" to contact you. Please bring your own towels, tea towels, loo rolls etc. Oh, and don't forget your favourite CDs and DVDs.

DOGS (by arrangement only) - We allow well-behaved small to medium sized dogs in our cottage and we ask that you use the back door for comings and goings when you have mucky or sandy feet (that's dogs AND humans!!) As you would expect with any holiday cottage, we ask that you do not leave your pet in the cottage on their own and we ask that you keep your pet off the furniture and beds. Please don't forget to bring dog towels and blankets with you. Also please don't forget to pick up your pet's droppings before you leave and deposit in one of the village's poo bins. There is a small additional charge for dogs - £25 for one and £40 for two.

Please don't forget that this cottage is on one of the roads into Padstow, North Cornwall - it is an area of outstanding natural beauty and can get really busy during peak periods. Most holiday cottages have a changeover on Saturdays and the roads can be hectic. If you're looking to get away from it all and everyone, go somewhere else!!

Outside: Large garden mainly laid to lawn with a couple of fruit trees, and lots of herbs to use in your cooking. Large table and chairs for alfresco dining. Enclosed garden, with side gate onto public footpath leading to fields and the Camel Estuary/Camel Trail. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are an extra, reflected in the price, so that you have the choice if you would like to keep your costs down. The property is cleaned between lets. Other: Living room at the back of the house with double doors opening onto the garden, table and chairs for formal dining. This room can also be used for a travel cot.

Snug and cozy

We had a great stay at Annet cottage. The property was clean and tidy with 2 cozy bedrooms. The kitchen was well stocked and log fire in the living room was well used in the evenings. The owners were a pleasure to deal with. We would definitely recommend. Thank you.

Nice comfy cottage in good location.

Nice homely cottage with cute garden. Well equipped. Enjoyed easy access to Padstow and the beaches. Ring O' Bells just 2 doors away but doesn't have much outside space. Had an excellent Sunday roast in The Pickwick Inn less than a mile away which has a lovely outside area with fantastic views. A very enjoyable stay.

Lovely cosy cottage in great loaction

We stayed at this cottage for October half term and had a fantastic time. It was clean,cosy and well catered for. It was so nice to have a log burner and to be able to take our dog. It was a pleasure dealing with Sally. The location is excellent all the beaches are so close and the area is stunning. Something for everyone. We look forward to staying again.

Disappointing - would not recommend

Property hadn't been cleaned when we arrived - owners offered a refund initially but have since retracted that and offered a discount off future stays, we certainly won't be returning! St Issey is a great location, equidistant from Wadebridge and Padstow, cottage itself is fine; could do with a bit more care and attention - broken kitchen tap, batteries missing in TV remotes, poor information re bins, etc. To say the car park is "over the road" is somewhat misleading... level access is at least 100yds up the road, otherwise it's through the church gates, up 5-10 steps, over part of the graveyard, and through some trees - not easy with luggage or children, and would be very muddy in winter I imagine. Given the poor customer service we received from the owners, sadly we would not recommend.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Clare and Richard, we appreciate the feedback. Just for the record, the kitchen tap wasn't broken, just a bit stiff and needed a new washer. We leave spare bulbs, batteries etc in the kitchen drawer and all information about the cottage including bins, parking, unloading advice etc is in the information sheet that we email out (and ask you to read and print out) before you leave home. Regarding the cleaner, Richard called Andy the day you arrived saying the cottage did not appear to have been cleaned. Andy apologised profusely and said he would call Jess our cleaner. He then phoned, texted and emailed Jess. At 17.57 hours that day, he texted Richard saying he was awaiting a response from Jess and would update again, and he apologised again. At 20.32 hours that day, he texted Richard to say that he was on the case, although Jess had not been in touch yet (she also has young children), and that he had also texted Tracey our Padstow cottage cleaner as a back-up, and would advise. At 07.36 the next morning, Andy texted Richard to say Jess had been in touch, she was very sorry – she had mis-diarised the clean and she would be there asap – when convenient for you. You responded saying that you would be popping out shortly so that would be ok for Jess to come. He didn’t hear any more, so was very surprised to get your email nearly three weeks later seeking compensation and, sadly, threatening a bad review if we didn't pay up. We are, of course, extremely sorry and embarrassed that the cleaner made this mistake in her diary, but we made every effort to rectify it and the cleaner was back to do her clean within hours.

Beautiful cottage in ideal location

Beautiful and 'cottagey' inside, would actually say quite romantic. Very clean inside, pretty garden outside. Cosy and warm, constant hot water a real boon. Considerate and friendly neighbours. Two lovely pubs within half a mile serving good food. Ideal location for walking (public footpath at side of cottage, easy access to the camel trail) and touring cornwall by car.

Lovely spacious and comfortable cottage

We had a lovely week's stay at this cottage. The cottage was as described on the website and was clean, well-maintained and well equipped. Location of the cottage was good to visit local towns and attractions such as Padstow, Port Isaac and Eden Project, and also lots of lovely beaches nearby. Very close to the village pub (2 doors away!), so had a lovely meal there. Overall, we would recommend this cottage to others as we had a fantastic holiday here.
