New on the market in 2014, Ebrington House is a lovely character cottage just 50 yards from Combe Martin beach. Originally built around 1650, it is a former pub and one of the oldest houses in the village. It has been completely refurbished and now sleeps 8 people in comfort and style. The property features lots of exposed beams, vaulted ceilings, two Inglenook fireplaces, and a wood-burning stove. However, as well as these character features, it has all the latest modern appliances, plus full gas central heating, with constant hot water and Wi-Fi.

Ebrington House is an ideal centre for walkers, as the South-West Coastal Path is just yards away. Among other local amenities, are two pubs (both serving food) a fish & chip shop, butcher, baker, pharmacist, two mini-markets, plus a selection of tourist shops, including two offering kayaks for hire. The house is located next door to the Combe Martin Museum and Tourist Information Office, which provides a comprehensive and fascinating insight into the rich and varied history of this village.

Within a mile or so is the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, whilst the other way takes you to Watermouth Castle, a popular theme park for the younger members of the family. The seaside town of Ilfracombe is about four miles away, with its pretty harbour now featuring Damien Hirst’s statue of Verity. Heading further west brings you to the sweeping beaches of Woolacombe, Saunton and Croyde, all very popular for surfing.

Jan and Tony Davis first discovered Combe Martin in 2008 and liked it so much that they bought a holiday home here.

Since 2014, they have been living in the village full-time and have really enjoyed restoring Ebrington House to the stylish, comfortable and characterful holiday home it is today.

Fabulous property

What a lovely welcoming ,relaxing house in a delightful village which was perfect in early September. Even if the house was filled to capacity it would still have room for everyone. Every piece of kitchen equipment you could possible desire. Comfortable furniture in the lounge. Very comfortable beds which is so important, quality pillows,bedding and towels. Odd cool evening house warmed up in no time with simple to use heating so I would be happy to stay there in the winter. Parking very easy outside the back garden gate. Garden area was charming and again well equipped. I noticed dogs were welcome and was slightly concerned as we're not dog people but there was absolutely no trace whatsoever of dogs, full marks to the cleaner.

Do try the Black Venus at Challacombe for a meal but arrive early, definitely well above the average. We would also recommend the surfing and boarding at Woolacombe where you can hire boards and wet suits - fabulous fun for young and old(ish). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, even the teenager who managed to find lots of Pokemon. Hope very much to return sometime.

Overpriced

Misleading information about garden and bedrooms no details about difficulty parking and situated in very run down village of Combe Martin. Very expensive and overall disappointing stay. Would not stay there again nor recommend it to anyone

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location.

We had a fabulous stay at Ebrington House. It is very clean and well equipped. Tony and Jan go that extra mile to make you feel welcome, with a bottle of Prosecco and a box of chocolates on arrival. Such a thoughtful touch. We look forward to coming and staying again.

Return Visit to Ebrington House

This was our second stay at this fabulous cottage and we all enjoyed it just as much as the first time. The cleanliness and the facilities in this cottage are still second to none and within a few minutes walk you have the beach, shops, pubs, cafes, fish and chips and amazing views.

We would recommend it to anyone and will look forward to returning next year. ( 6 adults 3 children 1 infant and 2 dogs)

Very warm welcome from the owners. The house was nicely presented, very clean and well-equipped (great beds!), and the lovely back garden was a big bonus. Great location for walking right from the door. Recommended!

Coast/Beach:

Combe Martin beach is only 50 yards away from the house, and its extensive rock pools give youngsters a wonderful opportunity for catching crabs. The bay itself provides safe swimming and kayaks can be also be hired. The nearby Hangman Hills are very popular with walkers and are part of the South West Coastal path, leading on towards Lynton and Lynmouth and beyond.

Travel:

Exeter airport is 60 miles away and about an hour and a quarter by car, whilst Bristol airport is 90 miles away and approximately two hours driving.

A car is recommended to take full advantage of this beautiful location.

Distances:

12 miles away and under half an hour's drive is Barnstaple, the main town of North Devon, with its historic Pannier Market and many independent shops.

The surfing beaches of Croyde Bay, Woolacombe, Saunton Sands and Putsborough are all within about 15 miles.

Combe Martin is on the edge of the Exmoor National Park, with its cliffs reaching to over 1,000 feet affording magnificent views of the coast.

Lynton and Lynmouth, the Valley of the Rocks and Watersmeet are also within about 15 miles.

Combe Martin is a small friendly village with two beaches and just been awarded the Blue flag for cleanliness. The small harbour is perfect for simply just messing about on the sea. The beaches have a wonderful collection of rock pools and caves which will keep the youngsters and Dad occupied for hours. One beach allows dogs all year, while the other restricts dogs for the summer months.

The Wildlife & Dinosaur Park situated at the top of the village offers a great day out for all the family, you can even swim with the sea-lions.

Nearby is the Watermouth Castle theme park, which is opposite picturesque Watermouth Harbour. Ilfracombe is just 4 miles along the coast and is a working fishing harbour and a fascinating place to visit.

Changeover Day:
Saturday is normal changeover day for weekly lets, with departures by 10.00am and arrivals from 4.00pm. Other arrangements can be made for shorter-term occupation. Christmas and New Year weeks will both be bookable this year from Monday to Monday.

Notes on prices:
Well-behaved dogs are welcome at a weekly charge of £20 for a big dog, or £10 for a small one.

  • Notes on accommodation: The Parlour has exposed beams, an Inglenook fireplace containing a coal-burner style gas fire, a dining table and chairs and a sofa-bed. Directly off this room, is a newly-refurbished shower-room / WC. (This layout could be really useful if someone in your party is less mobile and stairs are a problem). Outside: There is a pretty, secluded, walled garden at the rear of the house (reached by stone steps), which contains a range of attractive plants and a selection of garden furniture. The garden gets the sun most of the day and is sheltered from the wind. A coal-fired barbecue is also provided for your use. The garden gives direct access to the Car Park behind and a parking permit for one car is included with your week’s rental. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included and changed weekly and the property is cleaned on a weekly basis. Other: The spectacular landing has vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, etc. and turns into bedroom 4 at night when you pull the heavy drapes for privacy.
