About the property

Apartment in Cotignac, Var, Provence-Alpes-Cote DAzur, France - Peaceful location, only minutes away from the charming, bustling village of Cotignac.

Le Moulin is a restored 16th Century olive oil mill situated minutes away from the village of charming, medieval Cotignac. This self catering apartment was designed to incorporate the wonderful Provencal light and views to the private garden can be seen from every window. The architect combined the old olive mill wall with a modern living space which gives the apartment a relaxing, quiet ambiance.

About Vivien Henderson

I live in Scotland, and have rented out my apartment in Cotignac for over 25 years. The property is much loved by family and friends and is a place that renters often return to.

Vivien Henderson purchased this apartment in 1980

Why Vivien Henderson chose Brignoles region

The family fell in love with the village many years ago and when the opportunity arose to buy an apartment within this restored 16th Century olive mill it seemed too good to be true. The apartment is set minutes away from the heart of this charming village which never fails to weave a magical spell. Easy for the bustling market on Tuesdays, but peaceful by the pool in the afternoons.

What makes this apartment unique

One of the joys of this property is the proximity to the village, so the butcher, baker and candlestick maker, even the doctor are close by.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful stay at the Moulin and have taken home so lovely memories. The apartment is welcoming, cozy and very thoughtfully equipped and there was a great selection of books and guides available. The terrace was a delight and it was so nice to be able to sit out overlooking the beautiful gardens and listening to the river and the cigales. The kids loved the swimming pool which was perfect for our 6 year old who was keen to learn to swim and for our 5 year old who is not so keen and had plenty of room to paddle. We loved the village (literally a minute walk away) also and found the locals to be charming and very helpful. The boulangerie up the four steps on the left on the way into the village had the most amazing bread and the pizzas at les trois marches were lovely. All in all a fantastic holiday and we can't wait to return.

Fun filled week at the Olive Mill - July 2016

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the Olive Mill last July for one week, with our two sons (aged 17 & 7 ).

The property is lovely and very quaint, and, being so close to the village shops was perfect and added a proper French feel to our holiday. Being just a 2 minute walk from shops to buy fresh pastries and bread in a morning and grab a coffee in the square at the same time, watching and listening to the world of Cotignac go by was blissful!

The apartment is just as described and has a homely feel about it - so you feel like you live there rather than staying in a 'purpose built apartment' . The Apartment is well equipped with all that you need to prepare meals and the dishwasher and Washing machine came in very handy! The apartment was very clean and well maintained and the balcony / terrace was perfect to sit and have breakfast in a morning and relax in an evening.

We did have a problem connecting to the internet on our first day -but Viviene couldn't have been more helpful and sorted this out for us within the day.

Unfortunately, the pool wasn't available for our stay due to maintenance works and is the only downside to the holiday, but, that didn't stop us having fun and we just explored the area a little more than we may have and had some lovely days at the beautiful Gorges Du Verdon and active days at Aqualand, and nearby villages. If the pool had have been ready - it would have been absolutely perfect and couldn't have asked for any more (and would have had a very very happy 7 year old!).

Cotignac is such a lovely village and ticked all our boxes for what we were looking for a true French feel, an abundance of lovely restaurants (although advisable to book - all very popular!), there are two weekly markets in the square and surrounding streets ( food and arts & crafts!). We were also lucky that there was a pop concert on during our time there, and got see lots of familiar faces from around the village - a real community feel, which was nice.

We would definitely return to the Olive Mill and Cotignac (although our waist lines may not thank us!) And, we would certainly recommend the Olive Mill and the area.
