4 Bedroom Villa Set In Lush Tropical Surroundings. All Bedrooms Have Magnificent

Updated: 16-Oct-2016
Villa in Marigot Bay, St Lucia, Caribbean - A Short Walk To Marina Village With It's Bars, Restaurants And Amenities And La Bas Beach

Plantation style villa built in 2006 combining the Caribbean influence of hard wood floors, high ceilings and ceiling fans with the elegance of old English style comfortable sofas, antique and pine furniture and colourful rugs. An eclectic mix of artworks adorn the walls throughout and numerous table lamps provide soft lighting to complement the warm tropical evenings. Dining on the deck at the table which can seat up to 10/12 people looking at the twinkling lights of the boats anchored in the bay and the houses around the hillsides is a magical experience. The ground floor is open plan with 4 sets of French double doors to the deck and an open wood staircase ascending in front of an arched 2 storey window to the front, allowing maximum light. The pool is just 5 steps down from the ground floor deck and is surrounded by a wooden deck with sun loungers and privacy providing bougainvillea and other climbing flowers to one side and a small lawn and trees to the other. Below are palms and fruit trees including mango, grapefruit, lime and bananas. If you are there when the trees are in fruit you can just pick your own delicious and healthy breakfast. All three spacious first floor bedrooms open onto the upper deck and spectacular views over the visiting mega yachts in the bay and out to sea. There are no houses surrounding the villa so total privacy is ensured.

An excellent villa in a private location with great views

  • 5 of 5

We thought the villa was exactly as described and excellent for the five of us (2 adults and 3 teenage children). The open plan kitchen, dining area / lounge was ideal for keeping everybody in earshot whilst spreading us out.

There was lots of space for us and it would suit up to 6 with 8 maybe a little tight. The decor is generally good but just becoming a little worn in places. The housekeeper was very helpful and friendly and maid did an excellent job.

The back of the villa is very private with amazing views over the bay. The pool was not heated but was warm all day.

One niggle was the wifi which did work fine for emails and web browsing but not so good for streaming but given the location it is pretty impressive it had any at all.

There is not a whole heap to do apart from going down to the bay where there are a couple of restaurants, small supermarket, cafe and a bar. If you are looking for a quiet time with some options to eat out and easy self-catering this place is spot on. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Stunning views over Marigot Bay

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in Bois Rouge Villa for 10 days in April. As many others have commented, the views from nearly every room are stunning. We particularly enjoyed throwing open the doors from the master suite in the morning and watching the boats come and go whilst sitting in bed!

The villa is very private and you are not overlooked, which is very peaceful and relaxing. The pool is lovely and I was delighted to find the water wasn't too cool, so it was easy to jump in at any time of the day. The gardens are full of tropical flowers and fruit trees and my husband picked a grapefruit every morning to go with his fruit salad for breakfast.

There were only two of us staying, but there is plenty of room for a large family or group of friends. We cooked in 3 or 4 nights including a BBQ one night. Lots of fridge and freezer space.

There are a handful of restaurants down in Marigot Bay. Our favourites were Masala Bay, really good Indian food and Rainforest Hideaway with desserts to die for. It is a short but steep walk or drive down to the bay and when we did walk back up from dinner in the various restaurants in the bay we were grateful of the pool to cool off in once we got back.

We hired a car and drove around most of the Island. A lot of the roads are steep and winding, but there isn't too much traffic, so relatively easy to get around and explore. You could get to Rodney Bay in the north or Soufriere in the south in an hour. Just keep your eyes peeled for pot holes. We also hired Kayaks in Marigot bay.

Maggi was very responsive and helpful before we went and Pauline the house manager who lives next door was very helpful and friendly whilst we were there. We organised a snorkelling trip/sunset cruise with Pauline's partner who owns a boat. Highly recommended. Details are provided once you arrive in the Villa.

Given St Lucia has a tropical climate, some bugs are inevitable. There is insect spray provided and we found it effective to spray the rooms we were using once we had closed the doors for the evening.

We had a lovely trip to St Lucia and enjoyed our stay in Bois Rouge Villa.

Fantastic, amazing and awesome

  • 5 of 5

We were there on honeymoon and the villa actually surpassed my expectations. It was very clean and beautifully prepared for our stay. The caretaker lives next door and was on hand for any queries we had. It is totally private with no-one overlooking the property or grounds or pool. The view of Marigot bay is magnificent and we ate all of our meals on the outside patio overlooking the bay, forest covered hills and Caribbean sea. It is a wonderful location being on the west side of the island where the sea is lovely and Marigot bay is a few minutes walk or drive. There are beaches and plenty of watersports all close to the villa location. It was very well situated for exploring the island. The pool was lovely and the weather was even conducive for a night swim. I would most definitely positively stay there again and our only regret was when the holiday ended and we had to fly back to the UK. We can't wait to go and stay there again.

PS Everyone on the Island is extremely friendly and will show you the way if you get lost. One car even stopped for us and told us to follow them as they would show us the way to our destination! Oh, and don't forget to see all the mangos and bananas growing by the roadside!

Can't recommend Boiis Rouge Villa highly enough. It was probably the best holiday villa I have stayed anywhere in the world.

Beautiful Villa overlooking Marigot Bay. Very Clean and well maintained. We loved all of the restaurants in Marigot Bay. We all felt that Marigot Bay was the best place to stay and the Villa was wonderful.

Beautiful and spacious private villa

  • 5 of 5

We were two couples visiting St. Lucia for the first time. We found Bois Rouge villa to be a perfect home to explore this beautiful island. "The Compound", as we called our not-so-humble dwelling, offered gorgeous views of the Marigot Bay (a short, though steep, walk from the house) and the surrounding mountains. House is spacious, clean, and provided ample space for us to spend time together in the evenings. Though we prefer ocean waters, the pool at the villa was amazing for a midnight dip or early morning wake up swim. The place felt secure and conveniently located on the island, with a close drive to the super-J (local supermarket) and a gas station. We rented a car and explored the most of the east part of the island, with both north (Gros Islet) and south (Soufriere) being under an hour of driving away from the villa.

If you plan to cook in the house, please note that you will need to purchase everything in the store, as the house only has spices. If you are thinking of cooking gourmet meals, bring your own chef's knives - house only has used cooking utensils. It was not an issue for us, but some may find this inconvenient.

Communication with owner Maggi and local contact, Pauline, were flawless. We were greeted upon our arrival and quickly checked in. Pauline was just a short walk away and was available for any of our questions or concerns. As there were no guests arriving on our day of departure, Maggi offered to extend our check out time, which was very appreciated.

We strongly recommend this house and given the opportunity will gladly come back to Bois Rouge.

Beautiful Villa

  • 4 of 5

We arrived to this gorgeous home December 23rd for a 7 night stay. The home has a lovely view of the Bay and beautiful landscaping. Very private, cannot see any neighbors. The house manager, Pauline, was at the home to greet us when we arrived. She showed us around the house and explained how things worked. She is very helpful and sweet. The house was very clean and well maintained. We had to be careful in the kitchen as there were ants along the windowsill and cupboards. Bug spray was provided. All the bedrooms were large and had great views with access the outer decks. The pool was large and clean and the water was refreshing. Plenty of chaise lounge chairs. We enjoyed going down to the Bay for lunch and dinner. Several nice eating options locally. We rented a car and used it often. The roads are very steep and not in great condition. Maggi, the owner was so easy to work with and she was very accommodating. She always answered my e-mail questions quickly and made great suggestions for what to do while we were in St. Lucia. We really enjoyed our stay in St. Lucia and at this Villa.

From the Owner

A friend was left several acres of land in Marigot Bay by his godfather. As I was looking for a new adventure and had honeymooned in St. Lucia many years earlier I asked if I could buy a plot which I subsequently did in 2004. In 2005 I moved to the island and designed and started the house build which was completed in 2007. I have now returned to the UK and would be thrilled for others to enjoy my lovely house.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

The south side of the bay is a 10 minute max walk down from the property. The local ferry takes a couple of minutes to reach the north side of the bay and the beach where sun loungers and a variety of water sports are available. There are numerous other beautiful beaches and excellent resorts to the south of Marigot along the west coast road. Rodney Bay with its large marina and international hotels and bars and restaurants and famous Pigeon Island is 45 minutes drive north.

Approx. one hour drive north from Hewanorra International airport and 30 minute drive north to George F.L. Charles inter island airport. Castries, the capital, is 20 minute drive north. The large supermarket is in Cul de Sac 10 minutes drive.

Hewanorra airport (international) is 1 hour drive from the property. George FL Charles airport (inter island) is 30 minutes drive to the north.

Approx. 20 minute drive north to Castries, the capital, with its colourful and bustling covered market selling clothes and souvenirs, spices and local provisions. A further 20 minutes north is Rodney Bay, the international area. To the south Soufriere is a one hour drive south down the west coast road. The nearest supermarket is in Cul de Sac just 10 minutes drive from Marigot.

Further Details:

Marina Village in Marigot Bay has a bank, mini mart, a spa, coffee shop and restaurant, international clothing and gift shops. From there you can walk along the dock and check out the visiting megayachts or walk the surrounding hillsides – you will see a different view around every corner. At the ferry dock take the quick ferry ride to the lovely La Bas beach where you can just sunbathe or enjoy the excellent variety of water sports available. You can kayak or canoe or sail around the bay and beyond to the pretty little Trou Rolland cove and Roseau beach. Hire a car and you can explore all the quiet lushness of the rainforests – hike one of the many trails or even climb a majestic Piton or just refresh yourself in a cooling waterfall. You can zipline or, more leisurely, glide through the rainforest on a gondola. Horseback ride on a beach or just sun yourself on one and swim and snorkel and relax. There are tropical gardens to visit and of course the unique drive in volcano and sulphur springs to experience. Be back in Marigot Bay to watch a stunning tropical sunset with a sundowner in hand before preparing to enjoy the diverse dining delights of one of the three waterside restaurants or the two hotels – the 5 star Capella or the fun filled Marigot Beach Club with the famous Doolittles bar and restaurant. Of course if it is Friday you might want to experience the Friday Fish Fry night in Anse le Raye a small unspoilt fishing village just south of Marigot. Tomorrow is another day.

From the Owner

I particularly love the privacy of the property and the fact that there are no houses overlooking me. Every bedroom overlooks the pool and the bay and in the grounds I have mangos, grapefruit and bananas for a fresh fruit breakfast.
