Villa in Marigot Bay, St Lucia, Caribbean - A Short Walk To Marina Village With It's Bars, Restaurants And Amenities And La Bas Beach

Plantation style villa built in 2006 combining the Caribbean influence of hard wood floors, high ceilings and ceiling fans with the elegance of old English style comfortable sofas, antique and pine furniture and colourful rugs. An eclectic mix of artworks adorn the walls throughout and numerous table lamps provide soft lighting to complement the warm tropical evenings. Dining on the deck at the table which can seat up to 10/12 people looking at the twinkling lights of the boats anchored in the bay and the houses around the hillsides is a magical experience. The ground floor is open plan with 4 sets of French double doors to the deck and an open wood staircase ascending in front of an arched 2 storey window to the front, allowing maximum light. The pool is just 5 steps down from the ground floor deck and is surrounded by a wooden deck with sun loungers and privacy providing bougainvillea and other climbing flowers to one side and a small lawn and trees to the other. Below are palms and fruit trees including mango, grapefruit, lime and bananas. If you are there when the trees are in fruit you can just pick your own delicious and healthy breakfast. All three spacious first floor bedrooms open onto the upper deck and spectacular views over the visiting mega yachts in the bay and out to sea. There are no houses surrounding the villa so total privacy is ensured.

Maggi Harrison has now returned to Henley on Thames after living in St. Lucia for the past 9 years. She has lots of experience in hospitality and has managed and been house concierge to many properties in St. Lucia. Why Maggi Harrison chose Castries Quarter

A friend was left several acres of land in Marigot Bay by his godfather. As I was looking for a new adventure and had honeymooned in St. Lucia many years earlier I asked if I could buy a plot which I subsequently did in 2004. In 2005 I moved to the island and designed and started the house build which was completed in 2007. I have now returned to the UK and would be thrilled for others to enjoy my lovely house.

What makes this villa unique

I particularly love the privacy of the property and the fact that there are no houses overlooking me. Every bedroom overlooks the pool and the bay and in the grounds I have mangos, grapefruit and bananas for a fresh fruit breakfast.

Outside: The property has covered decks to ground and first floor. The ground floor deck has a seating and dining area and there are potted plants and palms and a Permagas 4 burner barbecue. The pool is approx. 33'x 13' and has a wooden deck surround with sun loungers and wrought iron table with 4 matching chairs. The pool is set amongst lush tropical flowers and bushes with a small lawn to one end. Steps lead down to the remainder of the land where their are various tropical fruit trees. Utility Room: Ironing area, tiled counter with washing machine and shelves under, washing tub, broom cupboard, large fridge/freezer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided. Property is cleaned weekly and linen and towels changed weekly. Extra towels are available from the linen cupboard and there is a supply of pool towels. The gardener/pool cleaner attends tweekly. Other: Opposite utility room is a pantry with shelving and between these two is door to integral garage

Just returned from our 2nd visit to St. Lucia and Villa Bois Rouge. Our family really love it there, the villa is so spacious and beautiful as are the grounds and pool, and the view is stunning. We drove around the whole island this time, and we think Marigot Bay is the best place to stay on the island. Driving distances on the Island can be far for many of the rentals/hotels so having restaurants and grocery nearby is very convenient, and it is very easy to get out on the water and visit different beaches via boat. I've visited about half the islands in the Carribbean and St. Lucia is amongst my favorite. So many islands are still recovering from the hurricanes last year and St. Lucia is well placed, below the major hurricane belt. We found the islanders to be happy and very friendly. The villa itself is exceptionally private and peaceful and very fairly priced. I highly recommend staying at Villa Bois Rouge.

Spectacular views and layout

Spectacular views from every room. Amazing porch on both levels. Short walk to great restaurants. Doors and shutters - which you will want open are a little old and tricky to operate but worth the effort. Only minor issues with basic maintenance: TV didn't work, WiFi was marginal. View and location 5 stars plus!

Owner's Response: Dear Rick I am glad that you loved the villa and its views and that I was able to accommodate you for an extra night. I am sorry that you could not get TV but it was not the TV that did not work it was the provider's box which they are updating and I had been waiting for 3 months for them to provide the new one. I am happy to say that this has now been installed. I find the internet service is generally very good for a Caribbean island. .

The perfect spot for an island vacation

This was our first trip to St Lucia and as such there is always the risk that things do not turn out how you expect. That is not the case with Villa Bois Rouge. It turned out we had picked the perfect spot for a relaxing and enjoyable break on St Lucia. We now realize that its location, overlooking Marigot Bay is not only idyllic but very convenient. It is easy to find and does not, as much of the competition, require you to travel on steep dirt roads. It is a nice walk to the hustle of Marigot Bay and its bars, restaurants and shops and is within easy reach of the various tourist activities and sights of the island. Marigot Bay itself lives up to its reputation as "the most beautiful cove in the Caribbean".

The house was a delight. Spacious, comfortable and well appointed, it met our every need and is the perfect spot for relaxing, chilling and getting oneself onto island time. The pool is wonderful. The grapefruit tree in the garden allowed us to eat "homegrown" fruit for breakfast.

Luciana, the housekeeper, was charming and supportive while not intrusive in any way. Lion, the gardener and pool keeper, will amuse and charm you with stories of island life while keeping the garden and pool in pristine condition. Everyone involved with this property from Maggi, the owner, on down is charming, concerned, conscientious and supportive which further makes it one of those delightful relaxing places.

We will be back!

Gorgeous property in an outstanding location!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay for a week at this beautiful property. It gave us the versatility to enjoy many places around the area with the added benefit of many days allocated to simply enjoying the villa itself. The home is so comfortable we relaxed, enjoyed preparing meals and loved spending our days in the pool and the marvelous decks. The view is so lovely!

Lovely stay in paradise

First of all the views from this place are AMAZING! The house is quiet, secure and very spacious. We felt very comfortable relaxing here in the mornings on the deck and using the villa as our home base to explore St. Lucia. Luciana, the house manager, lives at the bottom of the street and is available to help with any needs. Lion, the pool/outside maintenance guy, was very friendly and picked us fresh grapefruits for breakfast. All in all the villa was very clean, there were AC units available in all the bedrooms that we used only at night, and the fresh air flow through the large doors during the day into the villa was wonderful. Furniture wasn’t new, but we found it comfortable enough. Price for the size and amenities at the villa was very reasonable. Would stay here again!

Car: recommended


The south side of the bay is a 10 minute max walk down from the property. The local ferry takes a couple of minutes to reach the north side of the bay and the beach where sun loungers and a variety of water sports are available. There are numerous other beautiful beaches and excellent resorts to the south of Marigot along the west coast road. Rodney Bay with its large marina and international hotels and bars and restaurants and famous Pigeon Island is 45 minutes drive north.


Approx. one hour drive north from Hewanorra International airport and 30 minute drive north to George F.L. Charles inter island airport. Castries, the capital, is 20 minute drive north. The large supermarket is in Cul de Sac 10 minutes drive.

Hewanorra airport (international) is 1 hour drive from the property. George FL Charles airport (inter island) is 30 minutes drive to the north.


Approx. 20 minute drive north to Castries, the capital, with its colourful and bustling covered market selling clothes and souvenirs, spices and local provisions. A further 20 minutes north is Rodney Bay, the international area. To the south Soufriere is a one hour drive south down the west coast road. The nearest supermarket is in Cul de Sac just 10 minutes drive from Marigot.

Further Details:

Marina Village in Marigot Bay has a bank, mini mart, a spa, coffee shop and restaurant, international clothing and gift shops. From there you can walk along the dock and check out the visiting megayachts or walk the surrounding hillsides – you will see a different view around every corner. At the ferry dock take the quick ferry ride to the lovely La Bas beach where you can just sunbathe or enjoy the excellent variety of water sports available. You can kayak or canoe or sail around the bay and beyond to the pretty little Trou Rolland cove and Roseau beach. Hire a car and you can explore all the quiet lushness of the rainforests – hike one of the many trails or even climb a majestic Piton or just refresh yourself in a cooling waterfall. You can zipline or, more leisurely, glide through the rainforest on a gondola. Horseback ride on a beach or just sun yourself on one and swim and snorkel and relax. There are tropical gardens to visit and of course the unique drive in volcano and sulphur springs to experience. Be back in Marigot Bay to watch a stunning tropical sunset with a sundowner in hand before preparing to enjoy the diverse dining delights of one of the three waterside restaurants or the two hotels – the 5 star Capella or the fun filled Marigot Beach Club with the famous Doolittles bar and restaurant. Of course if it is Friday you might want to experience the Friday Fish Fry night in Anse le Raye a small unspoilt fishing village just south of Marigot. Tomorrow is another day.
