Modern Detached House in a quiet cul-de-sac in the quiet village of Seahouses,each bedroom has sea views and is ideal for families as there is an enclosed garden. The village centre with a selection of shops, cafés and restaurants and a long sandy beach is a short walk away. This property is ideal to explore the beautiful Northumberland coast with Bamburgh Castle a short drive away and Alnwick Castle and Gardens,and Holy Island around a half hour drive away. There is a golf course 330 yards and others a short drive away.

Good location, but in need of improvement

Fully agree with previous review, being dog friendly comes with the knowledge that it won't be immaculate, but, this has to be within limits when you are paying several hundred pounds for a week.... Really didn't feel that the house had been professionally cleaned, more like the previous renters had given it a once over Hoover (using the Hoover we found full of dog hair with no Hoover bag), skirting boards with a layer of dog hair and fluff should not survive a clean, not the past people's toothpaste marks in the sink.

The good: Really nice location, quiet, few min to the beach or town, good parking for multiple cars, large enclosed garden - but needs work to be as good as the competition with prices in the same bracket (given only 17 people live on the entire estate, all others are rentals).

The bad: Kitchen floor vinyl coming up in a wave, divan bed creaking woke toddler every time someone moved, dining room blind pulls not attached to wall (H&S issue), exterior looking tired, only enough seating in living room to seat 5, odd shower over bath in main bathroom.

So, overall, we had a good week with 2 dogs and a toddler (although the booking info said dogs welcome anywhere, signs in house limit where they are welcome), but we'd not book again, other properties are maintained better, and have invested more of the rental profit back into their properties to make it somewhere you'd want to return to and come away feeling you'd paid a fair price. Lots of potential, but looking at response to the other reviews, change is not that likely.

Our week on holiday

My family of 4 have been on holiday in Seahouses on 3 occasions over the last 5 years. We enjoy Northumberland and the local Anstead beach near Seahouses is ideal for our needs, in particular our Dalmatian dog Rosie who loves the beautiful beach too! We decided to stay at the Waterside house this year as we had friends staying with us for part of our holiday week. The ample accommodation, quite location, plus the actual location of the house was the initial attraction. Having just read the only review of the premises on the Owners Direct website, some of the comments were also applicable to us with our stay. However, we appreciate that if someone lets their house and allows animals to stay too, it will always perhaps be a little ‘tired’. We did not see anything in the kitchen that was of a health and safety concern, but I’m afraid we very were disappointed upon arrival. Our reasons are as follows: After driving 6 hours to get to Seahouses, we arrived to find that although towels had been replaced and perhaps the kitchen bin emptied, that appeared to have been the extent of the overall cleaning on handover. The bed linen had not been changed, the toilets, main bathroom and en-suite shower/toilet had not been cleaned. In fact, the toilet in the en-suite did not flush and had there was dried poo in the toilet. Had someone bothered to clean the toilet they would have noticed it did not flush! The kitchen floor had not been swept and the mop bone was dry! The vacuum cleaner did not work properly and the house had not been cleaned throughout. One quilt in the bedroom was blood stained where it appeared someone had bled from a graze. The outside grass needed cutting and the paths around the exterior of the house were awash with bird poo from the birds nests located under the house roof. The little garden furniture was very tired and we could not find a bbq. There was no clean linen available in the house, or any cleaning material. Luckily, our guests were not due to arrive until Sunday, so I had time to use the side tube of the vacuum cleaner to vacuum the house. My wife visited the mayhem of the local Coop on a Saturday evening to buy cleaning materials/washing powder stuff and I then cleaned all the toilets etc. My wife washed all the bed linen. I spent 20 minutes tinkering with the en-suite toilet and managed to fix the broken cistern arm, which had caused it not to flush. I also cleaned the kitchen floor. Owner's Response: The above issues with the cleaning of this property were due to our cleaners letting us down and not informing us that they had not cleaned the property ready for our new guests. I was very annoyed that I had been let down and grateful to the holiday makers for attending to this. All issues have now been resolved and I have an excellent Cleaner who will ensure that this does not happen again. This is an excellent property in a wonderful location and I will continue to ensure high standards are met.

lots of potential, but shabby and run down

Large house in good location, but despite the valiant efforts of cleaning staff (and ourselves as we stripped down and cleaned every appliance and spring cleaned all the cupboards during our stay) this house is looking shabby and run down. Almost everything in it needs replacing or refurbishing. We've never seen such badly stained carpets and furniture, grotty crockery and pans, dismal bedding and curtains, an unhygienic kitchen, and some health & safety risks too. The friendly maintenance man did replace some crockery and pans for us, and always came promptly to repair leaking bath that poured through the floor and into the kitchen below, but there was no comment or apology from the owner. A pity we had booked for two weeks, in order for family and friends to join us at different times, otherwise we would have gone home early. Unless the Owner starts getting much better reviews, you'll know she still hasn't bothered to do much about the poor quality fittings and furnishings that are really worn out, and she hasn't given staff the time to deep clean the place. Seahouses is a great place to stay, but choose some other house or cottage - not this one.
