Snowdon Vista Cabin Sleeps 4 (2 Bedrooms)

The cabin has 2 bright bedrooms, 1 double and one twin, shower room, large comfortable living and dining area and a large kitchen with dishwasher, fridge, microwave, toaster, oven and hob. Washing machine, tumble dryer and drying room are also available, as is secure storage for bicycles and canoes.

About the property

Wonderful Wales in full Glory!

Short (3+ night) breaks may also be also available if not already booked.

The cottage is aimed at couples, though an extra blow up bed can be provided for a smaller youngster, whilst the cabin is aimed at families with beds for 4 and space on a couch if needed.

If you want to sit inside and look at the views, then choose the cabin. The cottage walls are 4ft thick and windows small (building 500 years old) so dont have the views from inside, but there are plenty of seating areas with benches you can use to take in the fabulous vistas whilst you enjoy a meal al fresco.

We are Dog friendly and and only charge £5/night/dog (sometimes even this is waived, depending on our cleaners).

We are located high in Beddgelert Forest just off the easy walking Lôn Gwyrfai path, & it is the perfect location to access all that Snowdonia National Park has to offer. There are numerous beautiful mountain walks and cycle trails right from the door. You can wake up, open the curtains, and be looking straight at the changing light and moods of Mt Snowdon and the farmland of the valley foothills (Cottage views limited). On a clear day you can see 25 miles down the Aber Glaslyn Valley, to the Rhinogs and Cadair Idris, and 12 miles to the North into the Carneddau range. The views are a key feature of the cabin - and you can watch the Welsh Highland Railway trains snake up through the forest on their way to Rhyd Ddu, or even watch the Snowdon Mountain Railway wind its way up to the summit from just above halfway station.

A wildlife watchers dream with outlooks over field and forest to the mountains beyond. (You might even catch sight of a pine martin).

There are several patios and picnic tables located in various places on the property for you to take full advantage of the different vistas. We also have a charming rural art and photography gallery in our barn for you to peruse should you wish to do so.

We are only 1.5 miles from the beautiful village of Beddgelert where there are numerous pubs and restaurants, local shop with post office and fantastic ice cream shop. Footpaths to the top of Mount Snowdon are a couple of miles away, and dog friendly beaches just 12 miles. We feel that dogs should enjoy their holidays as well as the owners, and know that they may not always stay on the floor even when asked to do so, so we provide furniture and bed covers should you wish to snuggle up with your best friend.

About Graeme Pettit

Graeme, and his gorgeous, very friendly (but sometimes naughty) Jack Russell Jessie moved here in March 2013. He worked in Leicester and the opportunity presented itself for us to move to such a beautiful location. So Graeme took early retirement & finished work in January 2013. Graeme had always wanted to open a gallery and this was a live the dream opportunity, so we took the plunge. It's the old cliche, if we hadn't, we would always have wondered "what if". After extensive renovations we moved into the house in May 2014. After all the trials and tribulations, and whatever the weather, we wake in the morning and are thankful that we were lucky enough to find such a wonderful and unique place. For us it is magical, and we do not regret our decision for a moment!

Graeme Pettit purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Graeme Pettit chose Caernarfon

Sometimes, life can sometimes just be too hard. How many times can you look outside and see the same thing every day. Graeme fell in love with the property, stone built in the 1500s and sat on a rock and watched the light change. He was interested in the outbuildings for his gallery and work areas, and what could be done - after all, he had a dream, and when he found it, wanted to share it. That, is why we have holiday lets - please come, and share the dream, if only for an odd fleeting moment. We think that maybe, after you have tasted a little, you will be back for more - if not here, then wherever your dreams may take you in life - but take that first step, and be inspired.

What makes this cabin unique

In a unique location, both Snowdon Vista Cabin and Waterfall Cottage are way off the beaten track, high in beautiful Beddgelert Forest and accessed by a track that runs through the local campsite, across the Welsh Highland Railway line and up through the Forest. The railway snakes round an S shaped bend just below us, and you can see the Snowdon Railway train puffing up the mountain from the halfway station. Both properties are next to our home and so we will be on hand should you need help or advice.

Please note - this cottage is amid farmland on the edge of the forest, with a steam close by, and often frequented by all sorts of wildlife - you may even get visits from it - birds fly in and there are voles, shrews, mice and other mammals around, such as rabbits, badgers, squirrels, mink, bats etc, so dont be surprised if something finds its way in, esp if you leave the door open - they are all harmless - either set a trap for the small stuff, or shoo it out if it offends - be sensible - keep food in upper cupboards and lift the dog food bowl off the floor if you go out. The smaller critters all love chocolate and nuts - you have been warned! No refunds given. (Earlier this year even the swallows and martins wanted to stay, but decided to nest on the cabin eaves instead! Owls love the tree by the waterfall, and sometimes it is suprising what I catch on the wildlife cameras.

Your time here can be either jam packed with activities, or quiet and relaxed or, well anything in between.

Great location, but without running water!

  • 3 of 5

Lovely cabin in a great location with breath taking views of Snowdon. Unfortunately there was no running water during our stay which meant no flushing toilet and no hot running water and no shower to use so we decided to stay just the 2 nights as opposed to the 5 nights booked. This was a real shame and although the owner tried his hardest, we simply had enough of roughing it and decided to return to the comfort of our own home.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review - Regrettably, the pressure booster pump failed to appear until well into the new year, but all is now well, and spares will be replenished once the supplier can get them in stock. My offer of a free stay still stands so long as you contact me direct, and I remain sorry I was unable to address the issues with everywhere shut for xmas and new year. When you are this remote, stuff happens and you have to improvise and make stuff - not like towns and cities where you can just go buy what you need, or, you go rural, turn back the clock a few years, and use the bucket to collect from the gravity tap in the pumproom, as advised. All the best - hope to see you again.

Amazing location!

  • 5 of 5

The highlight of our trip to the UK was staying 4 days at the Snowdon Vista cottage. The location is amazing and as hikers we loved being able to just step out the door to go for wonderful hikes. The village of Beddgelert is charming and has wonderful restaurants and shops. The cottage is very comfortable and we appreciated the lovely welcoming basket. Sue and Graeme were wonderful hosts, extremely helpful. This place is worth it!

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin with our 2 children and 2 dogs. The cabin had everything we needed for our week. The views are incredible and we found we completely relaxed during the stay. Sue and Graeme were the perfect hosts and were on hand to answer any questions. We will definitely book again and have told many people about this gem of place in such a beautiful part of Wales.

perfect without fault with charming character

  • 5 of 5

Firstly graeme and Sue made us so welcome even leaving us a welcome pack including the essentials of bread milk eggs jam butter tea coffee etc which was much appreciated after a long drive. The cottage was even nicer than the photo. Which had plenty of room for 2 and our dog. We found it was situated perfectly as it's up in the forest so very peaceful but also close enough to the village of Beddgelert, it's a great central base for exploring north Wales.

Graeme also gave great advice about places to visit (to which you must try the velocity zip wire).

Overall by the end of the week we felt so relaxed and didn't want to go back to the rat race.

Absolutely loved it, many thanks graeme and Sue

Black Rock Sands beach is 12 miles away. A beautiful sandy beach where you may take your vehicle, and welcomes dogs all year round.

Both this and the beach at Borth y Gest (10 miles) away, are lovely places to take your dog/s and a picnic.

Criccieth also has a pebble/sand beach and is located in the shadow of Criccieth Castle 12 miles away

Use of a car is essential as the property is 1km from the main road on a forest track. Travel also possible by infrequent bus service, or Welsh Highland narrow gauge railway to within 1km of properties during operating season.

Beddgelert village is 1.5 miles away.

Porthmadog is 9 miles

Caernarfon is 11 miles

Bangor is 19 miles

Further Details:

There are several pubs and restaurants in Beddgelert as well as a well stocked village shop and post office.

There is a small shop at the local campsite (you have to drive through it to get here) for essentials, but they also have an on-site bakery where (if pre-ordered) you can get breads, danish, croissants and pastries at 9am and they make delicious pizzas, available (again if pre-ordered) late afternoon/early evenings.

Porthmadog is the place for Tesco, banks, Doctors. etc.

Within a reasonable drive there are many activities for all the family. Here are a few: Golf; Llama Trekking; Quad Biking; Outdoor Activity Centre; Zip wires; Underground Trampolining (on the world's biggest trampoline), walking, cycling (local bike hire available in Beddgelert), and Sygun Copper Mine (tours underground) and the wonderful National Slate Museum, and Electric Mountain, are close, at Llanberis - to name but a few.

Castles and old buildings abound in the area, and if you seek larger towns then Caernarfon and the City of Bangor are close too.
