I will never tire of telling people what an amazing time we had in this house, everything was fantastic, the owner replied to emails straight away, the house is so comfortable with everything you need, superb property in a lovely village.
Wonderful family celebration
We were very lucky to be invited to celebrate the in-laws Ruby wedding with rest of our family including two grandchildren and two dogs . The location was superb and the house delightful catering for 10 adults with ample space for us all . We loved to be able to walk around the village so easily having babies and yet the surrounding area meant we could explore further too.
The perfect venue for a get together
Having decided to have a girls weekend away to celebrate my 50th birthday the search was on for the perfect venue and we found it. Although I know the Lakes quite well I didn't know Cartmel and what a fab place it is. Lovely shops to wander in, particularly the wine shop where we spent some time tasting and buying having been offered great advice on all manner of beverages. There are lots of places to eat in the village but we had decided to eat in at Ford House. The house is very welcoming with a lovely open fire and is very well equipped, all the ladies were very impressed to find Emma Bridgewater mugs in the kitchen. There is nothing else to say other than the house had everything and exceeded expectations. I imagine that we will be back at some stage and I hope I don't have to wait until my 60th!!
Fantastic Girls Weekend
We had a fabulous stay at Ford House, its is beautiful and had everything you could possible need, great open fire, beautiful lounge and dining room. The bedrooms were lovely and the bed very comfy. What a great little village, would highly recommend this house, we will definitely be returning.
Fantastic family break
What a fabulous, comfortable and well equipped house. We love Cartmel and so the perfect place to spend my 50th birthday was in the village. Ford House was everything and more than we could have wished for.
We have just returned from a wonderful family weekend break at Ford House. There was 9 of us in total with ages ranging from 70 years to 6 months & the house was perfect for everyone. It is incredibly well equipped with everything you could possibly need - we dined in one evening, making use of the large dining table & there are plenty of cooking utensils, pans, plates, cutlery, etc including plastic alternatives for young children. The lounge sat the 9 of us comfortably & there was another chair in the hall should we have needed it. All bedrooms are beautifully decorated with bathrobes & hairdryers available. Having 3 bathrooms meant there were never any queues or waiting to use the facilities every morning - they were clean & modern with baths & separate showers (towels & toiletries included). The downstairs cloakroom was very handy for the kids! The walled garden is beautiful, again with enough seating for 10 & we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy sometime in the garden despite it being October!
We had a lovely wander around Cartmel & enjoyed sometime in the Priory. We found a small & safe playground which the kids enjoyed playing in while we had a take-out coffee from the Cartmel Coffee Shop (they even delivered our coffee to Ford House on Saturday morning!). We ate at Rogan & Company (literally a 10 second walk away) on Saturday evening, which we would highly recommend, & then went to the live entertainment at the Kings Arms - my mum stayed in to babysit & said she couldn't hear any noise from either of the neighbouring pubs. We had Sunday lunch at the Pig & Whistle pub - we were aware that it is no longer owned by Simon Rogan but enjoyed the food & the staff were very friendly & accommodating.
A definite must would be to pop into the village shop to buy the Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding which was delicious - the Sticky Ginger Pudding is also highly recommended too!
All in all we had a wonderful weekend at Ford House & we are hoping to return again. We would definitely recommend!
From the Owner
“We have recently been lucky enough to buy Ford House after it came back unexpectedly on the market. It was already perfectly set up as a luxury holiday home catering for large groups with unique charm and features. As a family we often visit the Lake District and both my husband and I were brought up holidaying here as children.I particularly spent a lot of time in Grange over Sands with a day trip to Cartmel as an annual treat. The Lakes have a magical quality for me and I always feel I've escaped when there. Cartmel has so much more to offer these days and is a stepping stone to the many lakes and fells.”

From the Owner
“Ford House is right in the heart of the village, in The Square. We have immediate access to many eateries or a variety of artisan shops for a meal at home. To be so close to the racecourse is exciting on those meet days and you can take picturesque walks without getting in the car. All the bedrooms are attractive and spacious and no one feels they have second best. The garden is a lovely sun trap and the sitting room a cosy haven.”
