Large cottage with a wood burning stove, in the heart of the old village. The cottage has 3 double bedrooms plus 1 twin and sleeps 8.

Peaceful setting with secluded gardens. We have a BBQ area with outdoor seating.

Excellent pub 100m away.

River walk across the road by the parish church. You can cycle towards Barnstaple to connect with the Tarka trail or hire cycles near the train station.

Good access to the North Devon beaches, with the countryside on your doorstep.

We can offer special rates in low season for stays in excess of 2 weeks for example if you are temporarily working in the area.

About Jane Wickson

Hi, we are Jane and Peter and we live in Oxfordshire at the moment but hope to return to Devon one day at the moment we rent my old family home to guests which is this old cosy cottage in the heart of Bishops Tawton that sleeps 8.

We are fortunate enough to regularly return to Devon to relax and catch up with family and friends.

This was our family home for 15 years until 2009.

What makes this cottage unique

We decided to rent this property rather than sell it as we love the location and the village.

You can easily cycle to Barnstaple from here and pick up the Tarka Trail for a day out.

There are plenty of good walks nearby and a great village pub less than 100m away. It is an easy car journey to the supermarket 5 min drive and Barnstaple with its wide range of individual and other shops.

Good access to the North Devon beaches, with the countryside on your doorstep. There is a good train service to Exeter.

Comfy cottage in a beautiful village.

Two families of four staying for a long weekend. We found Jane, the owner to be a great communicator so we knew exactly where to find the property and what to expect when we got there. The cottage was plenty big enough for eight of us having a large kitchen/diner and separate comfy sitting room with an easy to use wood burner and loads of logs supplied. Outside, the garden had a covered BBQ area which can be used all year what ever the weather. The village of Bishops Tawton was lovely and our children particularly enjoyed the new play park and we all enjoyed the Chichester Arms pub which was only a minute walk away. The food in the pub was brilliant and it's obviously very popular so make sure you book if you are wanting to eat. All in all I would not hesitate in booking the cottage again.

Outstanding!!!

The cottage exceeded our expectations, the pictures really don't do it justice. There were 2 families of 4 staying here and we had ample space. The cottage was immaculate and had everything you could possibly need to hand. We used it as a base to explore the surrounding area, we found some really nice beaches. Highly recommended!!!

Summer holiday

We had a great time staying at this lovely cottage. Our party was 4 adults and 4 teenagers and there was plenty of room. The cottage is very well equipped and in an ideal location for a base to explore the surrounding attractions. We particularly enjoyed hiring cycles at Barnstaple station and cycling the Tarka Trail as well as surfing at Westward Ho! Jane sent us lots of information and was very efficient with making our booking. The outdoor spaces are sun traps, with ample barbecue facilities. I recommend this cottage, we will return!

Spacious, Warm Cottage

We had a lovely stay over Easter. There were 8 of us plus 2 dogs but we never felt short of space. The weather was not brilliant for us but we enjoyed returning to the cottage in the afternoons and stoking up the log burner and thawing out! The cottage is modern yet has retained its character and charm. It was spotlessly clean on arrival and well equipped. The enclose garden and patio area looked great and we were dying to try out the BBQ but the weather did not oblige. There is limited parking at the cottage but we parked in the near by Chichester Arms car park and had a wonderful meal there one evening. We attended the church across the road on Easter Sunday and received a very warm welcome - even being invited back for coffee with some of the locals. The cottage is in an excellent location. Many beaches are nearby and it is only 5 minutes from a huge supermarket. I am sure we will be returning for another family holiday. Our dogs both loved it too!

Fantastically Warm and Cosy Cottage

We have just had a great Christmas Holiday at this superb cottage and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone planning to stay in this area of Devon. The cottage is beautifully maintained and is surprisingly large without losing any of its vintage character. It has four large bedrooms that quite easily housed 4 adults and 3 teenagers.

The cottage is a 1 minute walk from one of the best pubs in the area, 'the Chichester Arms' and is located within easy striking distance of some of the most fantastic beaches and coastline in Devon, we regularly visited Croyde Bay, Ilfracombe and Woolacombe as well as hiring bikes to cycle the Takar Trail.

We look forward to our next visit.

Lovely cosy cottage with friendly owners!

On arrival we were just wowed by the size of this cottage. Much bigger than it looks in the pictures and managed to accommodate 5 adults, one child and two dogs but still plenty of room to manoeuvre...

The booking was smooth with good communication from the owners and helpful tips for our stay. We didn't manage to see everything we hoped so will be returning next year for two weeks and hope the availability to re-book is there.

The local pub is a stones throw and after a couple of visits we were on first name terms. Watching the sun set from the pub garden and sharing a bottle of wine was right up our street! The cottage is ideally located for travelling around. we managed to fit in a day in Croyde rock pooling (also surfers paradise), Ilfracombe, Woolacombe, Bideford, a couple of trips walking up Codden Hill with the hounds and a leisure centre day when it rained.

The staff in the local butchers are so friendly and supply quality meats for the BBQ provided along with essentials like eggs and milk.

This place is well worth a stay and can't wait to return again ourselves :)

The village has a special feel of history and community and the businesses are long established. It benefits from being in a beautiful rural location next to the river Taw and Codden Hill yet close to Barnstaple and the Tarka Trail and the coast. Book directly with the owner. 25% deposit required on booking which is non refundable and the balance 4 weeks prior to your holiday. Dogs are welcome at a cost of £20 per dog per week. Bring your own towels.
Changeover Day:
Saturday from 4pm for arrival and vacate by 10am on day of departure.

Notes on prices:
We charge a supplement of £50 extra per adult per week if there are more than 4 adults in the party up to a maximum of 8 adults.
Prices include gas and electricity bed linen and cleaning. You can also use wood from the log store. Rates for short stay (3 night min) either weekend or weekdays are £175 per night. Please note this is not available during peak holiday times.
