Gai'sl review has covered the main points . The only, very minor draw-back , is the single bathroom with only toilet . OK for us as all friends .

Beautifully appointed, well equipped warm property

  • 5 of 5

5 friends stayed for 3 nights. The property was very clean, warm, inviting and very spacious. The weather was mixed so after a day's walk exploring this lovely area it was so very nice to come back to a log fire and relax.

We would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family. Thank you

Gail and friends

Fantastic property

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely few days in Helmsley. Afternoon tea at the black swan, a trip to the castle, Abbey, and lunch at the pheasant in Harome. All highly recommended.

Beautiful house, with some lovely treats on arrival. Communication with the owner was great.

Comfortable house in Helmsley

  • 4 of 5

The farmhouse has been very well restored and is in a convenient position for walking into the centre of Helmsley where we enjoyed the local shops. It was a pleasure to use the butcher, bakery and fresh fish shop as well as the market. The immediate surroundings, although built up with houses and a petrol station, were very quiet.

The house is well equipped but the provision of the single indoor toilet situated in the bathroom could be a problem if the house was fully occupied. However, the bathroom is excellent.

There are two acclaimed restaurants in nearby Harome, and Rivaux Abbey, Helmsley Castle and a beautiful walled garden within walking distance.

Beautiful cottage in Helmsley

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed staying here, the cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished, and has absolutely everything you need. Helmsley its self is only a short walk away, and has lots of nice shops and cafes. Would recommend to anyone.

Stunning property in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

The Firs is a beautiful property in an idyllic location a few minutes walk into Helmsley centre. On arrival the house was spotless and the owners add wonderful little touches such as milk, fresh bread and cake from the local bakery. We have stayed in many properties around the country but this has to be our favourite in respect of standard and service. The owners was a delight to deal with. Helmsley itself is an ideal base from which to explore North Yorkshire; we visited Whitby by steam train from Pickering, Dalby Forest (paintballing!), Eden Camp, The Forbidden Corner and Lightwater Valley Theme Park, and we still feel the need to return as there is so much to see and do. The shops in Helmsley itself are a delight, traditional sweet shop, wonderful delicatessen, bakers, butchers quaint cafes, and even a small brewery to sample beers brewed on the premises! ; there is also the outdoor swimming pool (weather permitting), Helmsley castle and walled gardens and Dunscome Park. Wonderful holiday, thank you Kate.

Further Details:

If you were asked to imagine the perfect English market town, then it'd probably look a lot like Helmsley!

There's the bustling market square, the dramatic castle ruins, the charming tea rooms, the inviting inns; all surrounded by mile after mile of the beautiful North York Moors.

Only a mile across, historical Helmsley has lots to keep you occupied with

cosy pubs, fine dining restaurants with Michelin starred chefs and plenty of boutique, book and speciality shops overlooking the square and its ancient cross...be sure to haggle a bargain there at the Friday market!

If it's summer, you might even find time for a dip in the town's delightful open air swimming pool or if you were feeling a little more indulgent you might want to visit the Feversham Arms and have a Spa day using their Spa, Sauna and heated Swimming Pool
