About the property

Barn in Bude, Cornwall, England - Peaceful, Rural Location, Under 3 Miles From The Coast At Bude

Furnished to a high standard, The Shippen gives a feeling of space and light with its mainly high vaulted and beamed ceilings. The property is kept warm and cosy in winter (and on cooler summer evenings) by the centrally placed log burner. We provide a complimentary box of logs for your stay. The kitchen is open plan with the living room on the ground floor. A door then gives access to the bathroom and twin-bedded room, which also has a truckle bed for an extra child and a baby travel cot. The double-bedded room is accessed by a spiral staircase from the living room. The sheltered courtyard with barbecue, table, chairs and sun shade is the perfect place to come back to at the end of a busy day and to enjoy a relaxing meal with a bottle of wine, catching the last rays of evening sun!

About Ro Flawn

We moved to Gloucestershire in 2008, having previously lived in Hertfordshire and having owned a holiday house in Suffolk.

We've always loved Cornwall and decided last year to look for a family holiday property there. To our delight we found the Shippen!

Ro Flawn purchased this barn in 2014

Why Ro Flawn chose Cornwall

Staying at the Shippen you will get the best of both worlds! Just over 2 miles from the seaside at Bude and in a beautiful, rural location, plus close to many other lovely beaches, the coastal path and visitor attractions in both Devon and Cornwall.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lovely cottage - very close to great attractions and many pubs and restaurants. Lots of space in the cottage and super-comfy beds. Would recommend.

BEAUTIFUL COTTAGE,FANTASTIC LOCATION,

  • 5 of 5

A wonderfully well equipped cottage.

Set in a great location on a lovely quiet lane but only a mile to the local pub/shop and two miles to Bude.

The cottage itself is compact but well designed with good sized bedrooms and kitchen and was perfect for our needs.

Leaving a tub of peanuts for the birds is a great idea and we all spent some lovely time just watching the great variety of birds feeding next to the patio door.

The walks from the the cottage are just lovely and peaceful, and they differ depending on which way you turn when going out of the front door. I will say no more.

Finally a great big thank you to Ro and Nicky for making our holiday a really great one.

We will be back at the Shippen

One of the better properties we've stayed in. Very well equipped. Cozy. Loved it.

This is a lovely holiday cottage. Well equipped with good quality kitchenware, comfortable beds in an extremely quiet rural location. We have been staying in this area for over twenty years and this is certainly one of the most enjoyable locations. Ideal for all the North Cornwall coast but far enough away from Bude to be literally silent in the evenings, just the birds singing. The owners have been thoughtful with this cottage. Sharp knives for example are almost unheard of in holiday homes, but not here! also good quality cutlery and crockery. Nice bed linen and towels....These things do make a difference. Lovely scones with jam and cream on arrival and some milk in the fridge!

The only negative would be the shower which is a bit feeble.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Steve for your wonderful review. Regarding the shower performance (or lack of) I have spoken to SWW and they had been carrying out some works in the area before your stay which might have affected subsequent pressure. All is now back to normal - so many thanks for letting me know. Kind regards, Ro.

A lovely quietly situated cosy cottage very near Bude , its beaches and other areas of interest . A welcome cream tea on arrival , logs for the wood burner and comfy beds for a goodnights sleep after long days out exploring made our stay at The Shippen perfect . Not the greatest of weather for our week but I imagine that the little suntrap of private patio and BBQ would have been put to good use if the sun had lingered just a little longer :-) No matter though as the kitchen had all pots , pans and utensils we needed to cook and enjoy ... roast lamb ... duck ... fish pie

Thank you Ro :-) ...

Lovely...

  • 5 of 5

We has a lovely week's break here despite Cornwall not being very kind to us weather wise....The Shippen was a lovely little place to stay and even a problem with the bathroom was sorted straight away by the owners...the place was very clean, the bedding and towels of the highest quality and beds were most comfortable.... There was everything you needed there to provide a nice holiday away from home and we had a wonderful week visiting Cornwall's beautiful attractions... Thank you ,Ro, it is our pleasure to be able to recommend The Shippen.

Best accommodation we've ever stayed in!

Thank you so much for a lovely stay at The Shippen. Modern, clean decor, high quality throughout: really comfy beds, fabulous bedding and towels. The washer/drier was really useful; we enjoyed the log burner in the evenings and playing the board games too. Highly recommend!
