Idyllic, Luxurious Andalusian Retreat With Large Pool & Stunning Views

Overview

Property

Updated: 05-Dec-2016
Villa in Casarabonela, Costa Del Sol (Inland), Spain - Peaceful Country Finca With Great Access From Airport

The perfect combination for a truly relaxing holiday - a luxurious, tranquil, rural retreat in the heart of the stunning Andalusian countryside and yet only 40 minutes drive from Malaga airport, the buzzing city centre and the beaches of the 'sunshine coast'. Finca Cars-Bonaira is a very special place - a comfortable, well equipped home in the rustic style with all mod cons and yet retaining a charm and character all of its own. Set in 6,000 square meters of land in an elevated position with stunning views across the Guadalhorce valley and the mountains beyond, you will never tire of the panorama that greets you daily nor the space and amenities of the property itself. Situated just outside the pretty whitewashed village of Casarabonela, the finca is well located to take advantage of all the area has to offer in terms of the Sierra de las Nieves national park - walking, bird watching, mountain biking, horse riding, cycling, quad biking and all sorts of outdoor pursuits. The ravishing turquoise lakes of the Ardales national park and the dizzying El Chorro gorge are close by and the historic town of Ronda only 50km away. Granada can be accessed within 2hrs, as can Cordoba, with Seville only a little further distant. Click 'More Details' below:

Unlike many country properties in southern Spain, accessing Finca Cars-Bonaira does not involve a hair-raising drive along miles of perilous dirt tracks with ravines either side. The journey is via good, fast roads until the last 2.5km which take you onto a well maintained track with no vertigo-inducing crevasses to contend with. The property is quiet and secluded with a high degree of privacy but there are a few neighbours sporadically dotted around the surrounding landscape so you never feel isolated. While a car is essential, you can walk into the village if you are feeling energetic - it's mostly downhill on the way there but the opposite on the way back! By car the drive is less than five minutes.

Relax in the extensive grounds with a morning coffee and listen to nothing but birdsong and goat bells - and later relax with a bottle of cava to listen to the cicadas in the heat of the afternoon and the frog chorus at night! The gardens play host to a wealth of flora and fauna and the productive land yields olives, lemons, oranges, nispero, apples, plums, almonds and pears to which guests are welcome to help themselves.

Guests will arrive to a welcome pack of wine, beer, water, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, cheese and eggs (contents may vary - please advise of special requirements). All beds have excellent quality mattresses and Egyptian cotton linen. Bath towels are provided, as are pool towels.

The availability calendar on Owners Direct is not all it could be so please if you would like to confirm availability check the finca web site - www.finca-cars-bonaira.com - or email/phone me.

About the Owner

I have spent my career in the field of investment planning and tax advice, often in a high pressure environment. In 2014 I decided to adjust my work:life balance in favour of a bit more 'me' time and set out to find the perfect country home in Spain. So enamored was I with my purchase of the finca that I took the decision to move out to Spain permanently late in 2015. I now live and work on the coast but continue to offer Finca Cars-Bonaira to holidaymakers while also using it myself as a very welcome country retreat.

Perfection

We would recommend this property 100%. It was spotlessly clean, the views were amazing and it was so peaceful, just what was needed to relax and forget about work for a while. Susie provided excellent customer service and John met.us at the finca to explain all about the workings of the property. So all in all you won't be disappointed if you want to stay at this finca.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very kind comments. I do think that the only thing you can do upon arrival at the finca is cast your bags to one side and immediately begin the process of relaxing! The perfect antidote to an otherwise busy life. I hope you will return to Andalucía to top up your relaxation levels in the future.

Blissful relaxation

  • 5 of 5

We three couples in our prime loved this property and were very sorry to leave. It is extremely comfortable inside (the kitchen is small but very well equipped but there is a fabulous outside kitchen so no matter) but it's all about the outside. The view is magnificent and there are various sitting areas so you can always have sun or shade, as well as lounging around the pool. It was beautifully clean. Lots of day trips are possible but we abandoned some of our plans just to relax in the finca, although we did have great days in Ronda and doing the Caminito del Rey walk. Susie also provided very comprehensive information beforehand which answered any question and more. Thank you to Susie and John

Owner's Response: Your lovely review is much appreciated Teresa. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your time at the finca so much that certain of your plans to get out and about were shelved in favour of just soaking up the atmosphere and chilling out! Once immersed in the peace and tranquillity there is little you can do to resist the lure of just taking it easy and recharging your batteries. Perfect.

Five Star Finca

  • 5 of 5

lovely villa set in large grounds with spacious accommodation and excellent equipment. The outside kitchen is a real bonus and connects really well to the pool area and outside dining. Property was in immaculate condition on arrival and exceeded all expectations, the owner did a great job of providing really detailed information in advance and making arrangements for our requests, nothing was too much problem for Susie. Bedrooms are lovely and if you dedicate the common bathroom to the 3rd bedroom then it's all en suite which makes the stay that much easier. The location is incredibly peaceful and affords great views down the valley towards Malaga. The local town, Casarabonela, is only 2 km away and has a couple of small supermarkets along with a handful of bars and a couple of restaurants. We would particularly recommend Bar Nuevo for lunch on the outside terrace. We spent a lot of time relaxing at the villa because it is so special and we cooked 2 paellas and 2 BBQs from the outside kitchen which was great fun. We visited Malaga by train ( from Pizarra station ) and went to the central food market and also the Picasso museum which are both amazing, the tapas and canas at a bar in the former are a total must. Ronda is amazing and has to be visited and we also went to the lakes at El Chorro which are spectacular and for the more energetic the 7.7km Caminito del Rey footpath has to be done! The only point to consider with the villa is that it is c. 2km up a track from either Casarabonela or from the main road and a vehicle with good clearance underneath is recommended - we had a Qashqai and no problem.

Overall a fantastic week and would definitely return if Susie is still renting the property. Muchas gracias!

Owner's Response: You certainly packed a lot into your week at the finca and still managed plenty of chill time poolside! Cooking a paella in the outdoor kitchen is about as Spanish at it gets really isn't it? I am so pleased that you were comfortable and happy at Cars-Bonaira and I will be sure to advise of future availability. Thank you for taking the time to pen such a lovely review.

A piece of heaven!

  • 5 of 5

A fabulous Finca, in a stunning part of the world! Our home from home for almost 2 weeks, Finca Cars Bonaira resides in a truly beautiful, peaceful and quiet part of Andalucia (olive grove country), yet is still less than an hour's drive from the busy coastal resorts of Marbella et al to the East, the amazing town of Ronda to the South, and equally stunning Ardale lakes to the West.

The Finca had EVERYTHING we were looking for, combining an immaculately clean, superbly equipped, beautifully furnished and cool interior, with a fabulous swimming pool, external kitchen and barbecue, plus extensive gardens, filled with olive and fruit trees and with numerous terraces and viewing points. Without doubt one of the most beautiful properties we have stayed in over the years, the Finca sits high above, the sleepy whitewashed hillside village of Casarabonela, (which comes alive at night via the locals, not tourists) and has views to die for from all corners of the property. We chose to stay at Finca Cars Bonaira, having read the many 5 star reviews posted from previous guests and we can only echo everything that has been written by others. Susie (the owner), plus John and Denise who manage the property on Susie's behalf have been a pleasure to deal with, and nothing was too much trouble. If your looking for a piece of heaven on your next holiday, this really is it! WE WILL BE BACK!

Owner's Response: So delighted to receive your review and to hear of the great time you all had at Finca Cars-Bonaira. It's very hard to describe the place in an advertisement so guests never quite know what they have booked until they get there! You tell me that you have fallen for this part of Andalucía, and I don't blame you because it has everything going for it - a fabulous climate, stunning scenery and great accessibility combined with a genuine sense of being in 'the real Spain'. However the sign of a good holiday is.... well pretty much everything you have said in your review! Thank you for being such lovely guests.

Terrific!

  • 5 of 5

We have been very fortunate in having enjoyed some 20 villa holidays in Europe over the past 25 years. Finca Cars-Bonairais is, without doubt, the finest we have experienced being both well located and extremely well equipped. The pool was superb and the 'Summer Kitchen' a real bonus. Communication with the owner, Susie, has been accurate, clear and timely and her property manager, John, could not have been more helpful. The local area is interesting and there are many restaurants in the nearby towns which offer great local produce. The' Menu Del Dai' offer unbelievable value for money. We had a brilliant holiday and will certainly return in the future. Andrew, Mary, Roger and Pat

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for these very generous words. I have passed your comments on to John because truth be told he takes as much pride in the finca as I do! Between us we set out to make the place the best it can possibly be because a holiday should be all about casting off your stresses and strains and getting straight down to the serious business of relaxing and enjoying yourself. Please be assured that you will all be very, very welcome here in the future - the finca likes having nice people around :)

Just beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

Spent an idyllic two weeks with adult children and their partners. The finca really is a perfect place with Susie the owner providing everything you could think of. The finca was spotless when we arrived and John and Denise looked after us very well. Ronda and Granada are definitely places worth visiting. We also went to the El Chorro lakes which are a beautiful shade of turquoise - so beautiful our daughter's boyfriend proposed to her there! We visited the Cactus Garden in Casarabonela which was surprisingly interesting. We had a lovely lunch at the Bar Nueva in Casarabonela where the food was good and service very friendly. We went for the day to Malaga also which again is worth a visit as most people just fly in and then go off somewhere else to stay. It was always lovely to come back to the finca and take a refreshing dip in the pool. A lovely relaxing holiday in a lovely peaceful place with stunning views in one of the few places where you can go for a stroll and meet the local goatherd with his goats coming the other way!

Owner's Response: I am loving the fact that your visit to Casarabonela prompted a proposal of marriage! I'm not going to claim any credit for that though as I figure that it was not the beauty of the Ardales lakes that caused your soon to be son in law to get down on bended knee but the beauty of your daughter :D I am delighted that all of you had such a great time at the finca and that there was something for everyone whether they be pool/beach lovers or culture vultures. I hope you will return.

Location

From the Owner

I came across this finca after viewing well over 30 properties and it was love at first sight. To my mind it has everything going for it - a truly stunning location, seclusion without isolation, day to day amenities in the nearby village and a rapid transfer time from Malaga airport. I love the eclecticism of the place - it has lots of quirky features and was designed with tons of individual little touches inside and out. This is not your regular collection of little boxes knitted together and called 'villa' but something with real personality.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Malaga International Airport at 41 Kilometres Nearest Train : Alora at 20 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Costa del Sol at 50 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

The beach resorts of the Costa del Sol can be accessed in little over half an hour by car. There are plenty of little known beaches rarely visited by the mass tourist market and pointers can be given to the best of them.

Travel:

Malaga's international airport is a 40 minute drive away where you will also find multiple car hire outlets. A car is essential if you are to enjoy all that the area offers. Málaga city is also around 35 minutes drive and thoroughly recommended for those who enjoy culture, gastronomy or simply great shopping. It is possible to take the train into Málaga from the railway stations at Alóra or Pizarra if preferred.

Distances:

The historic city of Ronda is 50km away, the stunning turquoise lakes of El Chorro roughly 45 mins drive and the coastal towns and beaches can be accessed from 35 minutes or so travelling time. Seville, Granada and Cordoba can be reached within around two hours.

Further Details:

Casarabonela is a small village in the typical Andalusian whitewashed style nestling on a hillside overlooking the Guadalhorce valley and within the Sierra de las Nieves national park. Although small, the village has all the amenities you will require on a day to day basis including two banks, a post office, butcher, fishmonger, baker and two small mini markets. There are numerous cafe-bars, restaurants and a pizzeria plus a small weekly market. The larger villages/towns of Alozaina, Pizarra and Alora are all within easy reach. The village itself contains several historic sights including the Moorish castle, the church of Santiago and the botanical (cactus) gardens. Casarabonela is also famous for its mineral water springs and there are spring water fountains to be found around the village.

No Spanish village would be worth its salt without its share of ferias, and Casarabonela is no exception. The largest (and noisiest!) of these takes place during the last week of July/first week of August in honour of Santiago Apóstol. Partying to traditional and contemporary music goes on through the night for the entire four days of the festivities and all manner of events take place in the village. The Virgen del Rosario pilgrimage takes place on 7 October, and early May sees the fiesta of La Cruz. The Virgen de los Rondeles feria (12 December) has been designated a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia, and videos of the festivities can be found on YouTube.

Casarabonela is ideally placed to provide access to the Guadalhorce valley, the national park and all the activities available in this most beautiful part of Andalusia. It is a haven for wildlife and a bird watcher's paradise. Outdoor pursuits are well catered for from the active to the sedate. Riders are particularly well catered for via the 'La Cabriola' ranch just outside the village - trekking is available for short jaunts, full and half days. Ask for more information.

Facilities

From the Owner

Visitors find the 40 minute drive to the finca ideal as they can leave their office, head to the airport and be sitting under the stars with a glass of cava in their hand that very same evening. The accommodation is very flexible, and although I have respected the rustic style of the building it has been furnished and decorated in a modern-classic way which I think complements the very Andalusian look of the house while providing comfort and convenience. This property is truly a very special place and I feel certain that everyone who visits it will be as charmed by it as I am.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The property is equipped and furnished to a very high standard. In view of the rural nature of the location car hire is essential. The property is not suitable for small children due to the terrain and the fact that the pool is unfenced. Please also note that this is a NON SMOKING PROPERTY and smoking is not permitted inside or within the grounds. Outside: Fabulous grounds in excess of 6,000 sqm with an array of fruit trees (help yourself to seasonal produce). Very secluded and peaceful with stunning views across the valley to the mountains. Various seating areas with the main dining area being a covered terrace attached to the house (six seater rattan dining furniture). Large 10m by 5m tiled pool with ample sunbathing areas. Quality teak sun loungers with cushions and parasols provided along with pool towels. Fully equipped summer kitchen including electric/gas hob, fridge, brick built barbecue with chimney, marble sinks, wood fired bread/pizza oven. Five outdoor seating areas ranging from the six seater formal dining terrace to a 'contemplation area' under the trees with a bench and stone table. The kitchen terrace has the benefit of a stunning view right down to the coast, but there are views from every part of the garden. Try lying on a sunbed at night and looking at the heavens - you will rarely have seen so many stars. Incredible. Utility Room: Bosch washing machine installed in guest cloakroom/shower room, Hoover tumble dryer in garage, iron and ironing board in hall cupboard. Clothes airer on kitchen terrace and washing line in garden. All appliances brand new July 2014. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and bedlinen are included. Pool towels are also provided but should not be taken away from the property. Linen/towel change after seven days for bookings longer than one week in duration. Additional laundry and cleaning services by arrangement. Other: Dining room with 6-seater oak table and chairs, oak sideboard. There are, however, no fewer than five outside seating areas so the odds are you'll never visit the dining room other than on your way to the kitchen terrace!
