Sleeps 6. 3 bedroom barn. This renovated holiday barn furnished to a high standard, with beams, oak gallery, stone and oak floors and arched windows. Boasting a heated swimming pool. Large open-plan living/dining room with high open beamed ceiling and stone arched windows. Well-equipped kitchen area with flagged floor. Double bedroom with rugs on flagged floor. Wet room and toilet. First floor: Two bedrooms, each with wooden floor; one double and one twin. Bathroom with shower attachment, bidet and toilet. Beamed throughout. Wood burning stove, oil fired central heating. Bed linen and towels included, TV, DVD, CD, Cot, high chair and stair gate, microwave, washer/dryer, dishwasher, fridge freezer, patio furniture for garden, barbecue, parking for four cars and no smoking.

This wonderful, imposing detached period property offers extensive holiday accommodation with delightful gardens, a large oragery, a full sized snooker table and a small outdoor pool. The impressive staircase, original open fires and servant's bells add to the country house ambience.There are splendid sunsets looking across the Solway to Scotland to the north and views of Skiddaw and the Northern Fells to the south. Standing adjacent to a smaller holiday cottage, it is a perfect holiday home for families and friends relaxing together. Located in northwest Cumbria, it is ideally suited for exploring the Solway coast, the Northern Lakes and the popular lakeside town of Keswick, Hadrian's Wall in the Northumbrian National Park and the historic city of Carlisle. There are many outdoor and sporting opportunities. Enjoy the seasonal changes in nature whilst bird watching, walking, golfing or cycling. Visit the numerous castles and historical sites. Explore the Georgian town of Wigton, tour the pretty villages and sample the local produce served in the many restaurants and pubs. Shops 3 miles pub and restaurant 1 1/2 miles.

Booking Notes:
To secure a booking a deposit of £25 for the barn and £50.00 for Moor Row House is required on booking and is non refundable. The balance being payable six weeks before the start of your holiday and is non refundable and you would need to claim from your holiday insurer.

Changeover Day:
Change over day is Friday in high season but outside of this we are flexible but require a minimum stay of two nights.

Notes on prices:
Two night stays at Moor Row House are £450.00 with each additional night £150.00 outside of school holidays and July and August. Two night stays at Cowan's Butt Barn are £150 with each additional night £50.00 outside of School holidays and July and August.

Excellent stay

My wife I & two Labs have just returned from a four day break at Cowan's Butt Barn and can honestly say after staying at many cottages and lodges this stay was the best value for money we've had. The Barn is spacious, comfortable, warm & clean with good wifi, well laid out with everything you need, nice gardens to give the dogs a quick walk in before heading down to the lakes every day, Keswick about 25 mins drive, it is in a rural location which is what we wanted but Wigton is only about a 5 minutes drive away, has a lidl supermarket, take aways, various shops etc so it's not too far out the way. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, thanks to the owner and will definately book again, Graham & Kay from Yarm.

Great place

Me and my friends stayed over the weekend and The place was really great with everything on point. It was bit tricky to get there but once you are there you will be amazed to see the spacious rooms. The rooms were clean and well maintained, Swimming pool was a bonus and it was not that far from the lakes and hiking places and car is a must as its 5 mins drive to get to the local co-op. Would love to stay there again and highly recommend to anyone who is looking to stay in wigton.

Great layout with pool a bonus

Stayed at the barn for a week. my wife, daughter, 3 grandkids, dog and myself. Recently been renovated so good layout with the pool ideal for the kids. In pool every day at some point. A bit n the remote side so need car to get around. Good location to get down to lakes or up to solway. Everything you need including wifi a must for the kids.

Cowans Butt Barn

Me and a friend stayed in the barn, with my two dogs and her 11 month old daughter. Its lovely accommodation, fully stocked with utilities in the kitchen, nice bedrooms, all round very comfortable. Fully working wifi. Expect to drive if you need to go anywhere as its just too far to walk to any shops /restaurants - but to be fair we went to chill out so it was great. The pool was full but the weather wasnt really permitting a swim. Enjoyed the change of scenery 😊

The Georgian market town of Wigton is three miles away as well as supermarkets, cafes and banks there are a range of interesting independent shops. A market is held is held on Tuesday and Friday. The Lake District National Park is only 20 minutes away and can be reached in half an hour. Closer at hand are the unspoiled beaches of the Solway Firth. Previous visitors have enjoyed trips further afield to Hadrian's Wall to Edinburgh and Glasgow both just over an hour from Carlisle by train. One of the great railway journeys of the world can be taken from Carlisle to Settle a memorable day out crossing the Ribblehead Viaduct. The mosses around Kirkbride 3-4 miles north of the property is home to a varied and interesting amount of wildlife. Wigton is the home of Melvin Bragg and the setting for his novel 'A Soldiers Return.'

  • Notes on accommodation: There is a pond and well in the garden. The swimming pool is fenced but unlocked when in use. Pool open 15 May until 15 September. Outside: 2 acre garden with large assortment of plants and trees but mostly laid to lawn. There is a barbecue for each property. Outdoor furniture for both properties as well as a plentiful supply of poolside furniture. The pool is shared and heated (12ft X 16ft, depth range 4ft to 5ft open May 15th until September 15th)
