Updated: 22-Nov-2016
House in Sidmouth, South Devon, England - Quiet Peaceful Residentiall Location. 5 Minutes Walk To Town And 8-10 Minutes Walk To Beach

By The Byes is a very attractive Victorian house built in 1906 set in a quiet residential location adjacent to The Byes. It is furnished to a high standard aimed at making your holiday as pleasant and relaxing as possible. The house has 1 large sunny double bedroom with delightful views overlooking The Byes on the first floor. Bedroom 2 is a very spacious twin room on the second floor again a sunny room with views of The Byes and fields beyond. The attractive bathroom is on the first floor with bath and walk in shower cubicle. The cosy sunny sitting room is perfect for relaxing and reading, again with views directly of The Byes. The dining room with dining table and 4 chairs, and comfy sofa to relax and watch TV, DVD, and games. The spacious modern kitchen with double glazed stable type door leads to the rear garden. We feel the kitchen is equipped with everything you will need. Gas central heating throughout, is easily controlled making a very comfortable stay winter or summer. Unlimited WiFi is available, so holiday plans can be made from the comfort of your sitting room. It has sunny front and rear gardens well stocked with plants aimed at giving colour whatever the time of year, A garden table, parasol and chairs are available for sunny days. Handy, unlimited roadside parking adjacent to the house.

The coast with its two main pebble beaches are a 10 minute very pleasant level walk through The Byes, and along the Esplanade. At low tide there are areas of sand perfect for sand castle building, while the rock pools provide hours of fun searching for crabs. The town with its wide variety of shops ideal for browsing, cafes, restaurants, theatre, cinema and numerous beautiful gardens are all a short walk away. There is adjacent roadside parking. You may prefer to leave your car at the house as it is possible to explore on foot or use the very good bus service. Honiton 8 miles away has good rail links.

Sidmouth is excellent for exploring East Devon and Dorset. Lyme Regis with its fossil rich cliffs is a 20 minute drive. Exmouth with its large clean sandy beaches is about 15 minute drive. The World Heritage Jurassic Coast with its many unspoilt beaches can easily be explored driving as much or as little as desired. For walkers, Dartmoor National Park offers endless potential. For golfers, Sidmouth Golf Course is a mile away The Donkey Sanctuary very popular with families is a 3 mile drive. The Sidmouth Folk Festival at the end of July/beginning of August brings music and dance from many parts of the world. For something quite different the city of Exeter with its cathedral and retail therapy is about a 30 minute drive.

About the Owner

We are both retired and look forward to the more relaxed pace of life Devon offers. We chose Sidmouth as the perfect place for our holiday home by the sea, having holidayed here for many years when our children were younger.

Perfect property in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for 1 week and found the property most relaxing. Despite being 2 adults and 2 large dogs, the property was ample. It was like a home away from home with all the mod. cons you could possibly need. Ideally situated for the town centre/esplanade and the byes too. Even the weather was perfect. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anybody else, as we too are returning for two weeks in September. Thanks again Christine and Anthea for a great week.

Perfect town house close to Sidmouth centre

  • 5 of 5

Very quiet back street close to the town centre. A short walk either by the street to all the facilities or a picturesque river stroll. Good sized house on three floors with everything you might need with a small garden to the rear. Sidmouth is a town of character with plenty to offer. Good base to walk the coastal path as the buses leave from near the sea front. Highly recommended if you are looking for a break in a seaside town

A hidden treasure

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely, comfortable house. I felt warm and welcoming, a home from home. The position of it is perfect, especially if you have a dog. In 2 minutes from the house you are walking in the Byes, with it's fantastic majestic trees and the stream running the whole length of this lovely park.. So very enjoyable, with or without a dog. We will certainly be back soon.

As for the owners, they are very friendly and easy to access.

A little gem

  • 5 of 5

By the Byes is a lovely holiday cottage, just near the Byes a perfect spot for walking along the river, or just a short stroll to the shops and beach.

The cottage is well equipped, and a small garden is perfect for afternoon tea. We were lucky to have good weather too, which was a bonus.

By The Byes - Home from Home

  • 4 of 5

After having to cancel a holiday abroad due to illness, we decided we needed a break to get away from it all. As the weather was forecast to be good decided to look in the Sidmouth area and fortunately came across this lovely property. It suited our needs perfectly as we were looking to take the dog with us and Anthea sorted out our booking at quite short notice. The house itself is furnished very comfortably and its location means you can park the car up if you wish and quite easily walk into Sidmouth town centre for all local stores and amenities. The big bonus is having the Byes (National Trust owned woodland walkways and streams) directly across the road from the house. Great for dog walking and accessing the sea front and town centre. We were blessed with gorgeous weather during our stay and did explore the neighbouring areas of Exmouth, Seaton and Lyme Regis. Had a lovely lunch in Osborne's eatery in Sidmouth and can recommend a visit to the tea rooms at Connaught Gardens in the town. Loved every minute of our stay and will definitely be back again.

We had a lovely few days stay it is very close to the Byes which is a pretty an easy walking distance to the shops, restaurants and the beach beyond. We were able to just leave the car and stroll everywhere. The property was ideal, it has everything you may need for a comfortable and cosy stay away form home. It has been nicely modernised to give good size accomodation and we hope to return next year.

Facilities

From the Owner

Byes View is an attractive terrace house built around 1906, in a quite residential area. It is adjacent to and overlooks The Byes. A 2 minute walk brings you into this is a huge long park that runs from Sidmouth to Sidbury 2km alongside the River Sid, and owned by the National Trust. It is an 8-10minute walk through The Byes to the beach. If it is the shops you require then a 5 minute walk brings you into the town. The rear garden is a suntrap all day, while the bench in the front garden is great for morning coffee. We have all enjoyed making Byes View our home from home by the sea. We all thought what was important for a relaxing and happy holiday and each suggestion has been carefully incorporated.
