Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom Cottage in rural location, Bitton, near Bath, Somerset, England

Boyd Cottage is a lovingly converted barn on a working farm, one of three neighbouring cottages tucked in the Golden Valley outside the village of Bitton. It has two bedrooms that can be either configured as a double and two singles, or alternatively as two doubles. One has an ensuite shower and wc, and the second has an adjacent bathroom. Upstairs is open plan, with a living area one end and a kitchen/diner the other. There is a private walled patio at the back and a paved front garden with teak chairs, table and recliners, plus a play area with swings, a climbing frame and slide and a trampoline. There is also a walk to the River Boyd where there is a picnic table by the Mill Pond.

Popular with cyclists, riders and walkers, the valley has many footpaths as well as being close to the Bristol & Bath Railway Path. The historic cities of Bath and Bristol are both 15 minutes drive away and many further attractions are within reach. Tracey Park Golf Club is two miles away. The property is 100 metres from the owners' house, and there is often plenty going on to entertain visitors.

Very comfortable cottage with welcoming and friendly owners.

Beautifully decorated cottage in the most lovely setting. Very dog friendly which was a must for us. Lovely walks in the surrounding fields and lanes but only a few miles from the centre of Bath. Great little farm shop a mile away. Robin and his family were extremely helpful and welcoming. Very comfortable cottage with everything you would need. A definite 5 * rating from us!

Fantastic hideaway

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is situated on a rural farm. It is very private and peaceful.

It is very well equipped and as it was February it was very warm and made even more cosy by a wood burner. The beds were very comfortable and clean.

Robin the owner was very helpful and friendly and we also met the dogs too who were to us a bonus as we are animal lovers.

Overall the the whole experience was fantastic and we will certainly be back.

Very nice conversion in a super location.

  • 4 of 5

Robin arrived very soon after us and was very welcoming. What a good idea to make this property upside down living. All the rooms were very comfortable and very nicely fitted out. As our week end was mostly wet, returning to the barn and a great log burner after our days out visiting family was very welcoming. We all said we would like to return in the spring. My husband and brother-in-law were fascinated by the other barn workshops and Robins information about some of their contents. We did enjoy our stay thank you Jo. Mick, Diane and Tim Beal.

cozy and a perfect design

  • 5 of 5

Despite staying in early January the accommodation was perfect. The upstairs with the open planning was great. The wood burning stove was a real focal point.

We were within a short drive of Bath. Plus lots of rural activities near by.

Robin was always close at hand to help out. When the signal went on the Sky Box he quickly sorted it out.

Would definitely return again.

About Robin Allison-Smith

We are a busy and successful writer (Bel) and photographer (Robin - semi-retired!) who find Boyd Farm the perfect place to live and work. We love the peace of our ten acres, only six miles from all the amenities of Bath and Bristol. Very special is the little community we have created on the homestead - with Dan (son) and his wife Aimee running the Splitscreen Ice Cream Company from their cottage, while in the adjoining cottage live close friends. Between them they have two children and a baby on site - which means a trampoline, a climbing frame, swings etc for visiting children to use too. Sometimes the cluster of 300 year old buildings which makes up our property is utterly silent, sometimes bustling, but always friendly and interesting. We make you very welcome and are always on hand to help.

Why Robin Allison-Smith chose Bristol

We moved out of the centre of Bath because we wanted no traffic noise and to experience the perfect peace of this rural backwater. But because we love the arts we like the fact that we can be in the centre of Bath in 15-20 minutes, to go to the theatre, the art galleries and museums, the Bath Thermae Spa, and so on. Bristol is easily reached, but just a little further away. All in all we chose a perfect spot for enjoyment of the countryside AND sophisticated city life. From here it's easy to drive to places like Wells and Cheddar Gorge (and so many other places too) then come back at night to light the woodburner and be cosy. After all, who doesn't want the best of ALL worlds?

What makes this cottage unique

We enjoy looking for wildlife and take great delight in the knowledge that otters, owls, kingfishers, badgers, deer, rabbits, trout, crayfish, herons, ducks and of course the foxes (our chickens safe in a run!) are all co-existing with us. Guests who sit for long enough in the special picnic spot by the river may be rewarded with sightings too. This is a magical spot.
