House in Bude, Cornwall - Peaceful, Restful, Private

4 bedrooms, with 3 bedrooms benefiting from spacious en-suite facilities. The house was built in 2014 so all aspects are in an immaculate condition.

Open-Plan Living: The kitchen, dinning area and lounge form a single communal open-plan space, ideal for families.

Kitchen: We love our food, so the kitchen is overstocked with interesting gadgets and of course the essentials. Toaster, kettle, microwave, fridge, oven and hob are all provided.

Lounge: Leather sofas abound with seating for 8. Open the huge bi-fold doors and enjoy the summer breeze from the comfort of your armchair.

Entertainment: Our high-speed wireless broadband is free for customers throughout the house. LCD TVs are available in all rooms. The lounge has a 50 inch SMART TV with internet connectivity.

Music is brought to you by Sonos and the Spotify music streaming service.

Winter Warmth: All room have underfloor heating. The temperature of each room is controlled separately. The lounge has a large (and extremely effective) wood-burning stove.

Patio Area & BBQ: The house is south facing, so the patio area benefits from full sun all day long. It has seating for 8, and barbecue facilities are provided.

Lawns & Views: There's a private lawned area to the side of the house, and as much grass as you can take in with the stunning 180 degree views looking south and down the Cornish coastline.

Parking: Cars can be parked in front of the house and on the long driveway. We can comfortably accommodate four large vehicles.

Environment: Energy is provided through solar panels and an air source heat pump. We provide bins and bags for guest to recycle. There a giant wind-turbine in the lounge (joke!).

Practical Stuff: There is a separate utility room with a sink, washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer.

Swimming Pool: Guests have the use of a heated indoor swimming pool in the village of Marhamchurch. There is a small cost of £3 per person.

Who We Are:

We are Gareth and Jennifer Rees. Originally from South Wales (Aberdare if you must ask), we have travelled and worked in lots of interesting places around the world, mostly within walking distance of a rideable wave. You'll see some evidence of our travels in our lovely house.

We finally settled in Cornwall 10 years ago, mostly as a means of elongating the life we lived elsewhere. We decided to bring up our children in Cornwall, surf it's waves and pace of life. We have two sports mad sons, William and Luke, who are learning the family business - just don't say the grass is unevenly cut, or there's a crease in your towels.

We sometimes pack our passports for trips back to Wales, but they can't understand the accent anymore.

Why Gareth Rees chose Cornwall

We like Bude. Perhaps it could be considered the black sheep of Cornish seaside towns, but we think it's a secret worth keeping. It's rare in North Cornwall to see a town with expanses of sand and greenery quite like Bude; there's simply space to do things. Rock and Padstow may get the national spotlight (and the crowds) but Bude is where you can find restaurants on a par with any in Cornwall, and can have the space and time to enjoy them.

There's a great community feeling in Bude too, we are actively involved in Bude Rugby and many other sports clubs and organisations.

Perfect for all ages

A beautiful home in a beautiful spot. We stayed with our son and daughter and their partners plus 2 year old grandson. The location is perfect with plenty to do for all ages. The house itself is immaculate and very well equipped. The owner was friendly and welcoming.

Absolutely fabulous!

Wow! An amazing property, in a quiet village with amazing views, there were four of us but it would accommodate the eight it's designed for easily. Lots of space inside and out. Three of the bedrooms are huge the smaller one with bunk beds is still ideal for little ones with Tv in every room. Laundry room is very handy too. Three en suite, the only tiny constructive comment I would make is the two downstairs en suite could do with a shelf as there is no storage or anything to put your toiletries on. We wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Lovely house in a peaceful and convenient location

The house is lovely. Modern, spacious and everything you might need. Stunning views in a convenient location. We stayed as an extended family of eight with an age range of 3 to 85 and it was perfect for all. I would recommend this property and the area.

What a fabulous house. Loved it!

Fabulous house...very well decorated and maintained. The rooms were a great size and the communal living space was great for a group. The view out of the bi-fold doors was stunning and sometimes included cow visits.

Really appreciated the prosecco and would highly recommend staying here.

Owners Gareth & Jenny were very efficient in responding to requests - thank you.

Superb House in stunning setting

Large modern house with everything and more for a home away from home, overlooking stunning Cornish countryside. Great village pub within 5 minutes walk serving very

tasty home cooked food, 40 min easy flat walk along the canal to Bude with beaches, shops and restaurants. We also visited stunning Tintagel and Boscastle an easy drive away. Owners Gareth & Jenny were swift to respond to all communications and thoughtfully provided chocolates, milk and essential Prosecco on arrival. Also a decorated Christmas tree... What more could you ask for?

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach is Widemouth Bay, 6 minutes in the car with the children, or a 40 minute walk just the two of you. Our favourite beach to escape the crowds and enjoy the rock pools is Northcott Mouth (12 mins in the car).

There are really so many beaches, catering for every taste. All are surfable given the right conditions.

For the walkers, the south west coast path is a 40 minute walk from Hideaway House via The Weir.

Further Details:

- Surfing

The Ash brothers (Reubyn and Joss) are from Widemouth Bay, Bude. The Bude area is renowned for it's uncrowded mellow peaks, and gnarley reef secret spots (and not so secret spots).

Stay local, or choose to explore the most consistent and varied surf in the UK on your doorstep.

- Cycling

A general roll down Hele Bridge Road brings you to a quiet, family friendly off road cycle track into Bude. Stop at The Weir on the way back for a cream tea.

Hop onto the Tamar Trail at Bideford. It’s a 40 mins drive from Bude. Leafy and shaded, it’s ideal in summer for all ages.

Alternatively the Camel Trail at Wadebridge is a 40 mins drive. It hugs the Camel Estuary giving truly spectacular estuary views, and the reward of Rick Stein’s fish and chips when you arrive in Padstow. Again ideal for all ages, but take the sun cream.

Cycle hire shops abound in Bude, Bideford, Padstow and Wadebridge if necessary.

- Eating and Drinking

The local pub, The Bullers Arms is a 5 minute walk. The Sunday carvery is a must.

Bude has many good quality restaurants supporting a variety of cuisines. Our current favourites are Life’s a Beach (fish), Elements (Italian) and The Olive Tree (Contemporary).

Further afield, Bude is ideally located to explore the culinary hotspot of Padstow. Rick Stein gets a mention of course (the cookery school is a great out-of-season experience) but there’s variety there too.

Wash it all down with the best (in my humble opinion) sparkling wine in the UK, from the Camel Valley vineyards.

- Heritage and Gardens

Landhydrock is a classic example of a Victorian country house and estate. The gardens show their beauty at different stages of the year with Rhododendrons in April a particular highlight. National trust quality food and service too. A 45 minute drive.

Rosemoor gardens are a 45 minute drive. Lush and serene, the RHS continue to do a great job in providing an escape from the everyday for their patrons.
