About charlotte raphael-graham

I am a 46 year old Graphic designer, mum to 6 year old Toby and married to Mike. We live in Brighton but love to escape to Dorset whenever we can.

Meadow cottage is a real sanctuary from everyday life, situated at the end of a cobbled lane and surrounded by fields i love to see the sun rise through the two windows in the master bedroom and at night its as if someone threw glitter at the sky as the stars can really shine in the darkness.

The great thing is to have this calm but still be less than a mile from the bustling town of Bridport and just a mile from the breathtaking Jurrassic Coast.

I love this coast for fossil hunting along the beaches, sandcastle making at Lyme Regis, donkey rides at Weymouth, followed by a drink at The Anchor pub at Seatown or an icecream at The Hive beach!

charlotte raphael-graham purchased this cottage in 2002

Why charlotte raphael-graham chose Bridport

I fell in love with Bridport after a weekends holiday, there is so much to do and how ever many times I return I never have enough time to do everything.

A few of our favourites are a drive along the coast overlooking Chesil Beach and the Fleet to visit the Tropical gardens at Abbotsbury with a stop off at the children's farm which is housed in an enormous historical tithe barn.

Beach barbeques in the sumer on The Hive Beach or Westbay watching the sun go down reflected in the honey coloured cliffs [ now made famous by Broadchurch ]

Mackeral fishing from the beach or from a boat caught from Westbay or Lyme Harbour.

What makes this cottage unique

Bridport is a historial ropemaking town and now has a thriving community of artistswho hold an open studio festival each year.

There is a great antiques market twice a week along the main street in Bridport plus an Alladin's cave of antique shops so there are always treasures to find.

The surrounding area is home to some of the countries best artisan food producers, cafes and restaurants making it a Gastro lovers delight, from the Hive Beach cafe with its "straight off the boat " fish, Soulshine and Watchhouse cafes, Hix Oyster Bar at Lyme Regis and The River Cottage just over the border in Devon you can literally eat your way around the area. This is showcased at the several several food fairs held each year in the area.

Very nice cottage and surrounding area

  • 4 of 5

We thought the cottage was very cosy (even if the doorways were a bit low for tall people) and well located for the town and beach

A lovely English idyll

  • 5 of 5

Meadow Cottage is a typical chocolate box cottage, with a beautiful church next door at the end of a cobbled lane. Its within easy reach of the beach at West Bay and for shopping in the lovely town of Bridport. We had a lovely stay there and were very lucky with the weather.

The cottage has great facilities, all mod cons, comfortable beds and is ideal for a couple or a small family. Its really cosy when it gets chilly in the evening as there is an open fire. We recommend going for breakfast at Hive Beach Cafe in Burton Bradstock or the Watch House cafe at West Bay, both really good and right on the beach.
