Porch Cottage in Keswick, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Charming Luxury 17th Century 5 Star Cottage In Keswick

This charming holiday cottage dating back to 1698 offers the very best in luxury self catering accommodation in Keswick-fully furnished and equipped to the highest standards throughout whilst retaining some wonderful original features.

On arrival at Porch Cottage you'll enter through the original oak studded door into this 5 Star (Visit Britain) property which is full of character.

The cottage has commanding views of the river with mountain views of Latrigg and Skiddaw to the front with Catbells and Grisedale Pike to the rear.

In the sitting room there's an oak beamed ceiling, cushioned seats in the alcoves and log burner (initial logs provided on a seasonal basis) The modern world has landed here though and you can access Wi-Fi, enjoy television and watch a range of DVDs. A collection of books and jigsaws are also available for you to enjoy during your stay.

The kitchen has underfloor heating under the original Skiddaw black slate slabs which always warms the heart as well as the feet on those early mornings. It is compact but has everything you would need to self cater, including an AEG fridge freezer, a Siemens oven with induction hob, and a washer / dryer. Attention to detail and quality equipment is on offer including a Juperana Bordeaux granite worktop which is beautiful in itself. And of course there is a dishwasher so no one has to do the pots!

Outside there is an enclosed courtyard with seating for four.

On the staircase take a moment on the way up to admire the original 17th Century mullion window.The bathroom features a double jacuzzi so you can bathe with a friend in a bath with two ends, overhead shower, sink, loo, and bath robes for you to use during your stay. A combi boiler with instant hot water ensures guests can always have a long soak after a day out.

Porch Cottage is unusual in that both its bedrooms are luxurious and spacious with terrific views. The first room has a six foot super-king bed whilst the second has two single beds which can also be setup as a superking if required. This makes the cottage perfect for two couples or a family of four.

Both bedrooms have a television and all our beds are fitted with Egyptian cotton sheets and individually styled bedding. All guests are provided with soft and fluffy bath towels for use during their stay.

One of the bedrooms has an interesting feature relating to its history when the little adjoining room was used for sewing during the period of the Keswick Linen Industry. This sewing room has a large comfy chair for you to enjoy fabulous views across the sweeping River Greta towards Latrigg and Skiddaw.

The cottage is just a three minute level walk from the town centre, so you can leave the car in the allocated parking space at the rear of the cottage.

This is the ideal cottage for your stay.

About Stephen Lyle-Mason

We are Stephen & Di Lyle-Mason. Di has lived in this most beautiful town of Keswick since she was 12 years old. It took me a few more years to join her. We have had our Guest House (Stonegarth) since 1990 and purchased our first self catering property, Fernbank House (ref E16680 ) in 1996. We chose this house as we believed there was a gap in the market for a high quality house that could sleep ten. In 2004 we seized the opportunity to purchase Porch Cottage (ref E16717) This grade 2 listed cottage dates back to 1698 and was in need of a complete restoration. We hope you like the results.

In 2013 we kept walking past what is now known as River Cottage (ref E16653) . After saying to each other that we shouldn't get another property, we went for a viewing. The rest as they say is history.

Wonderful property

What a wonderful property in a great location. The owners were so helpful and accomodating to us. It is so snug and homely and location close to Keswick is second to none. The road noise is noticable but only during the day which is when you should be out exploring the lakes. The kitchen equipment is possibly the best I've came across in a rental cottage. Would recommend it and will hopefully stay here again or possibly one of their other properties.

Booking Notes:
Weekly bookings only with changeover day being a Saturday.

A deposit is required to secure a booking with the balance payable 60 days prior to arrival.Once you have booked your holiday, our agreement is a legal contract and your deposit is non-refundable. If for whatever reason you cannot take your holiday you can cancel at any time 60 days prior to arrival and have no further liability. For cancellations made within 60 days of arrival You are still liable to pay for the booking in full, even we have not yet received your balance payment, Please note that your deposit is not refundable under any circumstances. For this reason we strongly recommend that you take out cancellation insurance, which is inexpensive and can be obtained from any good broker.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday. The cottage is available from 4:00 pm and you are requested to vacate by 10:00 am on the morning of departure.
