About the Owner

We lived in France for five years near Limoges before we decided to move to here. We loved the area and the property appealed straight away, with lots of land and facilities for the horses, the possibility of converting a barn for ourselves and then renovating the second house as a gite.

We love horse riding, walking and motor biking all of which are just heavenly in this area.

We have developed the gite as a holiday home we would choose for ourselves, trying to keep it as bright and light as possible whilst maintaining as much character with the original beams as possible.

We, our two dogs, two cats and two horses absolutely love it here, it's so peaceful with lots of fabulous walks.

We live next to the gite and so are on hand with any questions or problems.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The gite was perfect and much bigger than the pictures suggest which exceeded our expectations. The 3 double bedrooms are light and airy with plenty of space. The kitchen area was a real treat with a newly fitted kitchen with plenty of room for storage, with a table large enough for us to eat at during the day and perfect for playing cards at night.

There are plenty of books, CD’s & DVDs available to use to help you feel at home. The garden space is private and large enough to play various outdoor games.

We were made to feel really welcome by Nigel & Nicci, they were on hand to ask questions about the local area & recommended local places to visit, even offering for us follow them to a secret viewing platform out which were unable to find, the view was truly was stunning!

The surrounding area was tranquil and so quiet, with minimal traffic to be heard, it was the perfect place to chill out and totally relax. We all truly enjoyed our holiday at the gite and would highly recommend this property.

Thank you so much again, we had a wonderful time.

Kind regards

Lovely property, great area.

  • 4 of 5

Spent two weeks in this property in July 2016. The gite is comfortable and the surroundings quiet and in easy reach of places to visit. We recommend it as a place for a quiet stay, as we are in our late seventies the only problem is that ther are lots of steps to the property and would suggest that a note should be made in the introduction that it is not suitable for anyone with a disability.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful area of France. There are some steps to the main gite entrance, there is however a level entrance to the back door. The gite is on two floors with stairs up to the first floor. Those who struggle with stairs are welcome to use the back door.

The owners were very helpful indeed with complimentary fizz on arrival. The house was finished to an excellent standard with memory foam beds, large well equiped kitchen and large private garden. Bikes available to borrow were a great hit! Would definitely stay again. A big thank you to Nicci for looking after us so well.

A superb week at the Gite in Gesvre

  • 5 of 5

We have just had another lovely stay at Nicci Leavers Gite at Le Vallot near Gesvres. This property is in such a peaceful setting, the only sound being birdsong, chaffinch, robins and we think a nightingale. These little birds hide well away in the undergrowth but their song is very distinct. This is our second stay and as before, Nicci made us very welcome, provided welcome goodies including fresh eggs, butter milk and fruit and a lovely bottle of fizz. She gave us a list of places to go and we simply ran out of time to do them all. The Velorail and gorgeous little town of Bagnoles de L'Orme is a must to see as well as the many chateaux (Carrouge, St Suzzanne and the Roman forts at Jublains.) This is a lovely area for cycling and we made many trips on the bikes. The Grand Etang, nearby St Leonard with its Beer Cave and of course St Ceneri. We are looking forward to another stay here and this time more than a week. Thanks Nicci.

A great place for an active week away

  • 5 of 5

Despite a rainy week we had a great week here. The site is large and airy and given that we needed to spend a bit more time indoors the large kitchen table was really good for games. Having a lounge with DVD was a big boon. Having three kids we actually used the landing as an additional bedroom space using a put me up bed, but all the rooms in themselves are a really nice size. Out and about theres a good swimming lake nearby with beach, and plenty of activities. All in all we thoroughly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind comments. You had rotten luck with the weather, but Nigel and I were pleased that's you still managed to make the most of the sunny spells, getting out on your bikes to buy fresh bread and croissants from the village bakers most mornings and exploring the pretty villages nearby. Luckily we were able to offer a reasonable selection of DVDs for you to watch on those rainy afternoons. Maybe on your next visit we can arrange some horse riding in the glorious countryside around here.

We found the property really comfortable and clean with a modern kitchen and luxurious bedding. The couple who own it were super nice too. Would definitely stay here again if we're in the area.

From the Owner

We fell in love with the area really after we had moved here and discovered that not only was the drive opposite a track that led to a beautiful walk through woods alongside a river but that there were huge forests locally, open to walkers and off road bikes and motorbikes. The scenery in Les Alpes Mancelles is stunning with huge rocks and scree falls into valleys with gently flowing rivers. The choice is your between quiet and tranquil walks in the countryside and yet only a few minutes in the car and you in beautiful historic towns with great choice of restaurants.

The ease of access to pretty walks straight from the cottage is we think a great feature. There are also many mountain bike ( VTT ) trails locally varying in difficulty. We hope you will enjoy the spacious rooms and big garden of the gite.
