Cottage in Gesvres, Mayenne, Pays de la Loire, France - Set In The Heart Of Les Alpes Mancelles With Dramatic Scenery And Countryside

Le Gite Mancelles is a beautiful rural three bedroom, two bathroom, house recently renovated suited to busy people looking for peace and quiet in wonderful French countryside. The house is located in the heart of Les Alpes Mancelles in the spectacular Pays de la Loire but only half a km from the border with Normandy. Only 10 minutes from Saint Ceneri le Gerei one of the beaux villages in France, with restaurants and cafés and famed for its artists studios. The river Sarthe which winds through the village also passes through Saint Leonard des bois, only a 5 minute drive, with a choice of eateries and the possibility of canoeing. The property is part of a complex of buildings formally a haras or horse stud farm. The owner has three horses and there are stables, many paddocks and sand schools on the property. Those wishing to bring their horses may wish to discuss arrangements with the owner.

About Nicci Leavers

I lived in France for five years near Limoges before deciding to move to here. I loved the area and the property appealed straight away, with lots of land and facilities for the horses, the possibility of converting a barn for myself and then renovating the second house as a gite.

I love horse riding, walking and cycling all of which are just heavenly in this area.

I have developed the gite as a holiday home I would choose for myself, trying to keep it as bright and light as possible whilst maintaining as much character with the original beams as possible.

My two dogs, two cats and three horses absolutely love it here, it's so peaceful with lots of fabulous walks.

I live next to the gite and so am on hand for any questions or problems.

Why Nicci Leavers chose Gesvres

I fell in love with the area really after we had moved here and discovered that not only was the drive opposite a track that led to a beautiful walk through woods alongside a river but that there were huge forests locally, open to walkers and off road bikes and motorbikes.

The scenery in Les Alpes Mancelles is stunning with huge rocks and scree falls into valleys with gently flowing rivers. The choice is your between quiet and tranquil walks in the countryside and yet only a few minutes in the car and you in beautiful historic towns with great choice of restaurants.

What makes this cottage unique

The ease of access to pretty walks straight from the cottage is we think a great feature. There are also many mountain bike ( VTT ) trails locally varying in difficulty. We hope you will enjoy the spacious rooms and big garden of the gite.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The gite was perfect and much bigger than the pictures suggest which exceeded our expectations. The 3 double bedrooms are light and airy with plenty of space. The kitchen area was a real treat with a newly fitted kitchen with plenty of room for storage, with a table large enough for us to eat at during the day and perfect for playing cards at night.

There are plenty of books, CD’s & DVDs available to use to help you feel at home. The garden space is private and large enough to play various outdoor games.

We were made to feel really welcome by Nigel & Nicci, they were on hand to ask questions about the local area & recommended local places to visit, even offering for us follow them to a secret viewing platform out which were unable to find, the view was truly was stunning!

The surrounding area was tranquil and so quiet, with minimal traffic to be heard, it was the perfect place to chill out and totally relax. We all truly enjoyed our holiday at the gite and would highly recommend this property.

Thank you so much again, we had a wonderful time.

Kind regards

Great place to stay and would very much recommend for families with kids

  • 4 of 5

Location in Normandy was great and close to extensive network of Cycle paths, Zip-wire in the woods centre and a very relaxed swimming lake (with, beach, paddle boats, crazy golf and restaurants). The house was very spacious and had everything that we needed in terms of big kitchen, nice lounge with TV, HiFi and bright bedrooms. We really enjoyed the large garden and were lucky with the hot weather in May and ate all of our meals outside. Nicci is a great host and suggested many restaurants, activities and walking / cycling routes and wo was more than happy to give any tips when requested. The house was really clean when we arrived and would recommend this house to anyone. Bege and Amy

Perfect peaceful setting

  • 4 of 5

The gite is located in a beautiful area, so peaceful. The night sky is truly amazing!!

Nicci was welcoming and friendly, she was able to arrange a routine visit to the vets, and even came with us as we don't speak good French! Our 7 year daughter loved Nicci's horses and quite honestly would have stayed had I given her the option!

If you are looking for a peaceful location with plenty of walking and exploring then this is certainly the place to go.

Thank you Nicci for making us feel so welcome. Nikki and John

Idyllic rural retreat

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely week here with our two teenage daughters, enjoying the peace and quiet. Some beautiful local walks and cycle rides, and further afield restaurants and bars. There are several nice towns nearby well worth visiting. Nikki really is a fabulous host, (helpful and non-intrusive) and the gite was just as expected.

Lovely French Countryside Stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and our two teenage daughters had a lovely stay at this cottage. It was blissfully quiet and we made quite a few beautiful hikes around some of the lovely villages near by. Our host Nicci was friendly and helpful and had many good suggestions of things to do in the area. The cottage itself was roomy and clean with everything we needed to cook and relax. We would be very happy to come and stay again at some point.

Lovely property, great area.

  • 4 of 5

Spent two weeks in this property in July 2016. The gite is comfortable and the surroundings quiet and in easy reach of places to visit. We recommend it as a place for a quiet stay, as we are in our late seventies the only problem is that ther are lots of steps to the property and would suggest that a note should be made in the introduction that it is not suitable for anyone with a disability.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful area of France. There are some steps to the main gite entrance, there is however a level entrance to the back door. The gite is on two floors with stairs up to the first floor. Those who struggle with stairs are welcome to use the back door.
