About this property

Grade 2 Listed Barn Conversion on quiet country lane

Windmill Barn was converted in 2002 and is a traditional Cornish granite barn on a quiet country lane in an unspoilt rural hamlet. Just 3 miles from either the surfing beach at Sennen Cove or the more sheltered sandy bay at Porthcurno beside the Minack Theatre. There is an enclosed south facing garden with lawn, ample parking, barbecue, picnic table, rotary clothes dryer, palm trees, exotic plants and extensive views over the countryside towards Lands End. The double bedroom (with kingsize bed), twin bedroom and bunk bedroom (with full size bunk beds) are all on the ground floor, along with the bathroom (with toilet and bath with shower over) and additional separate toilet. The spacious kitchen includes a large dining table with 6 dining chairs and high chair. A wooden staircase leads to the upstairs living room, which is also reached via the external granite steps. There is comfortable seating for 6, a 32" colour TV, a DVD player and a selection of books. Please note there is no WiFi but mobile phone reception is usually good. Dogs go free (maximum 2). SUNDAY CHANGEOVER.
Just 2 miles from Lands End, the property is ideally situated for exploring both the dramatic and rugged north coast with its Atlantic rollers and fascinating mining heritage, as well as the contrasting picturesque coves on the south coast such as Lamorna and nearby Porthgwarra which featured in the recent BBC TV series Poldark. With two coasts to choose from, walkers can enjoy exploring a long stretch of the South West coast path. For those wanting to explore by car the resorts of Mousehole, Penzance and St Ives are all a short drive away.
For those wishing to bring a young family a travel cot is available. There is also a high chair in the kitchen and a safety gate at the top of the stairs.
Well behaved dogs are welcome (up to 2) by agreement with the owners. The garden is enclosed by gates and a stone wall. There is a large dog box in the kitchen (bring your own bedding) and dog bowls for your pet to use.
The bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen are all on the ground floor, but we would not recommend this property for the disabled as the main living area is upstairs. Care should be taken when using the wooden staircase from the kitchen to the living area as it can be slippery in the wrong footwear.

Lovely cottage, beautiful scenery, everything we needed for a restful holiday. Thank you.
The cottage for set in a lovely, peaceful location. It was a real home from home. There was a great selection of books to read and games to play. Would definately 're visit in the future. We took our dogs and enjoyed walking to the coast from the cottage, as well as walking along the coastal path to the Minack theatre. Thank you for letting us use your beautiful cottage.

Damp and smelly
Having been welcomed by a swarm of flies in the middle bedroom on the first day and having to clean all surfaces of fly poo,two days later we had to endure an infestation of wood lice in the same bedroom which were all over the floor and beds including inside the sheets of the beds which took a considerable time to clean. Four days into the holiday the main double bedroom smelt very damp and all my sisters cloths in the drawers smelt very musty. over the next day the smell of the damp got stronger Due to all these issues we cut short our holiday and left for home I contacted the owner by e-mail who admitted she was aware of all these issues Having paid well over the normal going rate to your company for this property I would have expected a better standard from you Denis Williams

A wonderful retreat
This is the first time we stayed in Sennen and we are very much looking forward to our next stay in this barn after such a superb stay in October. The bedrooms are more than adequately furnished and the beds were very comfortable. As an adult I chose to sleep in one of the bunks to share the adventure with my son and had great nights sleep ! The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need for that home from home feel- we cooked in every night and had all utensils that we needed. The size of the kitchen allows for a wonderfully social feel over dinner- even for larger families in number. It was idyllic to have the lounge above the bedrooms for catching up on the discussions of the day on really comfortable seating. There was a full signal throughout for all of our various mobile providers. Having two toilets was fantastic and the shower and bath were great after a long hike!! The location of the barn means you are tucked away from all the buzz of much busier areas and the drive to Sennen Cove is so easy- which was imperative for the surf! We managed to explore so much of the area and can't wait to get back this summer to see more of the coves and hypnotic coastline this area has to offer. The owners have been so wonderful and we wouldn't hesitate in booking again on a yearly basis.

My husband Andrew & I had many happy holidays in Cornwall over many years. I am a keen walker and particularly enjoy walking the coastal path with our dog Rufus.

Why they chose this property

We completed the purchase of Windmill Barn in May 2014. The house is in the kind of quiet and unspoilt location where we have always enjoyed staying. The countryside is right on our doorstep whenever we want to pop out with the dog. The coast is very close by and the immediate surroundings are peaceful and always away from the crowds.
