Spireview Cottage (sleeping up to 4 people in two bedrooms) has been recently renovated. Featuring a spiral staircase and stunning views of St. James' Church. It has a living room with a log-burning stove; newly fitted bespoke kitchen; utility room; downstairs toilet; main double bedroom; smaller second bedroom; a beautiful bathroom with corner bath and shower unit; a private garden; off street parking for two cars. The cottage is only three minutes walk to Spout Yard Park, four minutes walk to Louth Museum, and five minutes walk to the centre of the charming market town of Louth with its three screen cinema, many restaurants, pubs, independent shops, and thrice weekly markets. Riverhead Theatre is a little further (perhaps 20 mins walk); as is Hubbards Hills (one of the treasures of Louth). The Meridian Centre (with superb facilities including a large swimming pool; children's fun pool; gym; badminton; table tennis etc) is only 1.5 miles away. The cottage also provides an excellent base to explore the rolling hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds and sandy beaches on the coast.

About Rosalyn Spencer-Johnson and Ian Johnson

Ian and Rosalyn married in 2011 and live in the house next door to Spireview Cottage. They have four grown-up children between them - a son and daughter each, and Ian is about to become a grand-father for the first time. Would you believe that Ian's daughter is called Nichola Anne and Rosalyn's daughter is called Nichola Anne too - both with exactly the same spellings! How strange is that?

Ian is Lincolnshire born and bred, and has worked in the nearby market town of Alford for over twenty-five years as the IT Manager of a Graphics Company. Ian spends his spare time working on his model rail layout, painting miniature Napoleonic figures (sometimes 'gaming' with them) and has recently started playing golf again. Earlier this year he managed to achieve one of his life-time ambitions of driving a steam train on the Bodmin Railway in Cornwall.

Rosalyn is from Leeds in Yorkshire but moved to Lincolnshire in 2001 when she was appointed to a teaching post at Mablethorpe Primary School. After funding for her specialised position to set up the first Nurture Group in Lincolnshire was drastically reduced, Rosalyn decided to focus on her writing as she had already had numerous articles published in Education and Parenting magazines. Her plan was to continue teaching on a 'supply' basis to subsidise her freelance writing income but alas two accidents one after the other put paid to those plans. She sold up and moved to Lincoln to start a new position as the Parenting Coordinator for Lincolnshire Youth Offending Service. After nine years in post Rosalyn was made redundant due to government cut-backs at the end of May 2015. Since then Rosalyn has been spending her time writing her second book, organising Human Scale Education conferences, giving parenting advice, and looking after Spireview Cottage. Her hobbies include swimming, going to the cinema and theatre, reading and playing classical guitar.

Why Rosalyn Spencer-Johnson and Ian Johnson chose East Lindsey

Ian and Rosalyn live in the adjoining property and lovingly restored Spireview Cottage in 2014. This lovely little cottage holds many fond memories, especially for Rosalyn, who bought this house (first time around) in 2003 while teaching at a local primary school. While living in Spireview Cottage with her teenage daughter, Rosalyn started working on her first book. She loved writing with the magnificent view of St.James Church Spire either from the enclosed garden, or working at a table by her bedroom window (especially enjoying seeing St James church lit-up while writing late into the night).

In 2005 Ian bought the house next door and moved in with his two teenagers. A year later Rosalyn sold Spireview Cottage and moved to Lincoln to be closer to her new job but returned regularly to Louth to visit Ian. Three years later she moved back to Louth and in 2011 Rosalyn and Ian were married.

Meanwhile the new owner of Spireview Cottage had moved away leaving the house standing empty and becoming very neglected, Rosalyn and Ian decided to buy back Spireview Cottage with a view to renovating it and letting it out as a holiday cottage especially as Rosalyn had loved living there so much.

A year or so after renovating the cottage internally major improvements were completed to the outside to create improved parking, an attractive shared terrace between both houses and an al fresco dining area. And finally, Rosalyn and Ian set about much needed improvements to their own home but were delighted to be able to stay in Spireview Cottage themselves while some of the major works were going on.

What makes this cottage unique

Rosalyn and Ian started letting Spireview Cottage out as a holiday home in August 2014. They have been amazed and delighted by the feedback they have received since then. So far every single review has been 5 stars and they are working hard to keep it that way. The most used comment received has been 'It's absolutely perfect!' Other comments have included 'It's like home from home'; 'It has everything we could ever need for our holiday'; 'It's really warm and cosy here'; 'Everything is spotlessly clean': and at least three couples have said 'This is the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in!'.

Holiday makers love the view of St James' Church from the private enclosed garden, also a real sun-trap from mid-morning onwards. The shared terrace garden with its two strategically placed patio tables enjoys early morning sunshine - perfect for al fresco breakfasts and lunch. Everybody comments on how quiet it is at the cottage in spite of it being so close to town.

In additon to all the positive comments we've received about the cottage, we have received numerous remarks about lovely Louth - a vibrant town with a thrice weekly markets, and many independent shops. There are numerous pubs and restaurants all within a 5 - 10 minute walk of Spireview Cottage, and there are also many different walks from the cottage itself. The cottage is just 3 mins walk from the local supermarket, park, museum and cinema, and the town centre is just a 5 minute walk away. Being so close to the town makes it hard to believe there are two parks each 3 minutes walk from the cottage, and the spectacular Hubbards Hill about 20 mins walk away. Louth also has a thriving theatre run by volunteers and a superb leisure centre with a larger than average swimming pool. And there is so much more ...

It has its own private garden consisting of a small lawn and a patio area with garden furniture for 4 guests. The garden, which leads from a door in the living room, is a little sun trap with a superb view of St. James' Church. There is also a larger paved area at the other side of the house which adjoins the owners' property making this a communal area. At the moment this area is visible from the street but there are plans to enclose this area too. Utility Room: A utility room is situated off the kitchen with sink, washing machine, Sheila Maid clothes airer, boot/shoe storage and coat hooks. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen included in rent and changed weekly. Other: Separate downstairs toilet with sink situated off utility room.

Wonderful cottage in a great location!

Our family stayed at Spireview Cottage for a week at Christmas and found it to be everything we expected and more! It felt just like home, right down to the fire in the log-burning stove like we have every Christmas. Rosalyn and Ian are the best hosts, right next door or reachable by phone or message if they are away. We were greeted on the first day with delicious vegan mince pies baked by Ian, as they knew in advance that we are a vegan/vegetarian family. Louth is a fabulous town, and it's only a short walk to the centre from the cottage. The favorite shop in town for our grown children was Off the Beaten Tracks (second hand CDs, DVDs and records). We had a lovely walk on Boxing Day at Hubbards Hills, and another day we drove to Donna Nook and enjoyed seeing the young seals there. We found it very convenient that there's a large Co-op supermarket only a few minutes walk from the cottage. And we loved walking to St James' church for mass on Christmas morning. I would definitely recommend Spireview to anyone looking for a beautiful, clean, convenient holiday cottage in this part of Lincolnshire!

Go to Louth and definitely stay at Spireview Cottage

We had never visited Louth before but were really impressed with the town. However the best move we made was to book Spireview Cottage. It was just as expected, perfect for the 4 of us and Ros and Ian were so kind and lovely and had thought of everything. We will definitely be back. Thanks again. Angus & Carolyn

The Place to Stay in Louth!

Our stay at the Spireview Cottage was absolutely delightful! A true gem if you would like to TRULY experience life in beautiful Louth, Lincolnshire. Rosalyn and Ian are amazing hosts and SO sweet--always willing to help with information or anything you need to make your stay comfortable! The cottage itself has absolute EVERYTHING we needed (and then some) and is EXACTLY as pictured. From the moment we walked in, it felt like home (with delicious homemade goodies even waiting for each of us when we arrived) and remained so for the entire 16 days that we stayed there. It is also in a wonderful location that is walking distance from so many places in Louth. The view is beautiful, the garden was lovely, and you truly have everything you need--and if you don’t, Rosalyn will do her best to help because she truly goes above and beyond ANY host we’ve ever encountered on our travels. We will most definitely be back to stay next year as this was perfect for our family!

Enjoyable break

Lovely cottage in a lively town. Ian & Roz are a lovely couple who are no way intrusive, although the live next door, but we felt that they would help out in any way they could. We played golf 3 times and felt that Ian's home course, Kenwick Park, just shaded Laceby Manor into being the best. The only downside to the cottage is the very squeaky floors upstairs but being an old cottage this was not unexpected. Overall a very enjoyable weeks stay, we hope to be back sometime.

Lovely layout and very clean. The hostess and host are very nice. We are visiting family from Texas and the house had everything we needed.

Only negative is the beds are loud and not comfortable.
