About Andrew Butler

I'm Andy Butler, chief factotum for Skye Holiday Rentals and I look after five lovely self-catering properties here on the beautiful Isle of Skye. We are a small family business who have been involved in Tourism on the Isle of Skye for over 25 years. Our aim is always to please and ensure that you have a wonderful time with us here in this amazing part of the world. Quality and fun are always what we/I endeavour to achieve and we want you to go home delighted after your stay with us.... and come again! We have met so many lovely guests over the years, many of whom have become good friends and return to visit us year after year. We look forward to you joining our throng of Skye supporters!

Andrew Butler purchased this villa in 2013

Why Andrew Butler chose Scottish Highlands & Islands

Princes Point Villa is in a superb location. Totescore is just a few minutes drive from the busy wee village of Uig with all it's amenities, and yet is a quiet and tranquil haven with magnificent sea views and no passing traffic... we fell in love with it!

Not only is the location stunning, but the Villa is unique and very different from many of the traditional Skye houses. For a start, it is split-level which immediately gives it another dimension and character. For me, the winning features are light and space. There are windows everywhere giving a 360 degree panorama of the wonderful sea and mountain scenery.

You don't feel as though you are in a house.... you feel like you are part of the great outdoors..... whilst living in luxury.

We love the Villa.... and you will too!

What makes this villa unique

Princes Point Villa is a great base for exploring not only the Isle of Skye, but also the Outer Isles. The Calmac ferry service runs regularly from Uig just two miles distant from the Villa. You can take a day trip.... or stay for a few nights!

But before you venture far, you'll have so much to explore locally on the Trotternish peninsular. There is something for everyone.... of all ages and of all abilities.

There's history evident everywhere.... Skye's famous Dinosaur footprints and fossils, Clan History and Castles, Viking Invasions & settlements, Crofting museums, deserted villages, and so much more.

We have some of the best walking and climbing in Britain right on the doorstep.... the Old Man of Storr, Quiraing, Trotternish ridge walk and miles of stunning coastline.

Great comfortable family house.

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a lovely holiday on Skye. Princes Point Villa was the perfect holiday house with all the amenities you could ask for. The view from the upstairs lounge looks right across to Harris and the sunsets were stunning. The owners made us feel very welcome and we would definitely stay there again if we go back to Skye.

Thankyou very much

Owner's Response: Hello Heather (and all), MANY THANKS for you kind review of Princes Point Villa. I'm delighted that you all enjoyed the Villa and had a great time exploring Skye. Yes, it's always good to see some fabulous sunsets across the waters of the Minch to the hills of the Outer Isles. Makes a perfect end to the day at any time of year. French windows open, balmy sea breezes and perhaps a glass of Talisker in hand as a 'Skye sun-downer'. Sounds good to me! You've been lovely guests... 'will ye no come back again'? My thanks & best regards, Andy. Andrew Butler, SKYE HOLIDAY RENTALS LTD.

Awe-inspiring location, delightful house

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent a wonderful three weeks at Princes Point, venturing out every day to experience spectacular walks and sights on the beautiful Trotternish Peninsula and beyond it in other parts of Skye. Every evening, it was a pleasure to return to the villa and all its comforts, from its fabulous kitchen and atmospheric electric fireplaces to its cozy living spaces and bedrooms. The house is thoughtfully laid out, beautifully decorated, and equipped with everything that even a large family like ours could hope for. Andy was more than accommodating, going out of his way to prepare for our stay and make it perfect. The generous welcome gifts were just one example of his thoughtfulness.

The Trotternish offers a wealth of spectacular hikes and sights, many more than we could experience in three weeks. Particular favorites very close to Totscore were: hiking in the Quirang and the Fairy Glen, Castle Dun Tulm and the walk to Rubha Hunish, the Iron Age Souterrain, the Skye Museum of Island Life (excellent small gift shop), and the walk beginning behind Columba 1400 (great café for lunch or dinner) in Staffin over and down to the Dinosaur Beach. There are too many other wonderful hikes and experiences (including boat trips from Uig harbor to see the island and its sea life from the water) to list here. Whether we ventured beyond the Trotternish or stayed closer to "home," every day was as full and satisfying as any of us could have wished. We and our children and grandchildren all rate this vacation as the most outstanding we have ever shared.

Owner's Response: Hello Tom, Ann and all the wonderful Clan Dalton, Greetings from a cosy fireside on the the very northern tip of the Isle of Skye. THANK YOU for your kind and generous review of 'Princes Point Villa'. We are thrilled you loved the house and had a happy family holiday together here on beautiful Skye. As I pen this, I am mid way through watching a BBC documentary on Skye made by Richard Dimbleby in 1954... the year I was born. It starts by telling the story famed in the 'Skye Boat Song' of Bonny Prince Charlies' daring escape from the English. helped by Highland Heroine Flora MacDonald, they crossed the waters of the Minch by small boat and landed on the shore at Kilbride just below the Villa. This place has been called 'Princes Point' ever since. The shoreline and hills around the Villa remain as unspoiled today as they were in 1954... and indeed since 1746. And so, having crossed a somewhat larger 'Pond' than 'Charlie' to alight at Princes Point, we are thrilled that you found 'Princes Point' a welcoming haven for your Highland hostelry. I don't know what 'Charlie' would have made of Sky TV's, Playstations and the venerable host of technology that is provided at 'PPV', but I think he'd have rested well and enjoyed the timeless sea views and sunsets. Thank you again for coming lovely folk of Worcester County, Massachusetts and.... "Will ye no come back again"? We look forward to it.... Very best regards to all, Andy. A hidden gem!! Fabulous house. Magnificent views.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful house. We arrived at 8 o'clock on Saturday night and it was pouring down. It was lovely to arrive at the house and the lights were on and the house felt warm and cosy. The wine, fruit, chocolates were all lovely treats. The kitchen was wonderfully stocked with all the little things from, tea and coffee to stick cubes, herbs, flour (we even made pancakes). We loved the upstairs lounge and enjoyed watching the sunset on an evening. Thank you for a fab holiday.

Owner's Response: Hello Sue, Tim & family, Greetings from a glorious sunny (and lazy) Sunday afternoon here on North Skye... MANY THANKS for your lovely review of Princes Point Villa; we are delighted that you loved the house. I'm just back from there and it's looking positively Mediterranean today. The sunsets have been fabulous over the past few evenings... you would have loved them. Your mention of pancakes have 'set me off' and I think it's time for a yummy afternoon tea on the lawn looking out across the clear blue waters of the Minch... very inviting today. Have a fabulous summer and I hope we'll see you at 'Princes Point Villa' again. My thanks & best regards, Andy. Andrew Butler, SKYE HOLIDAY RENTALS LTD.

Outstanding holiday home: the whole family loved it!

  • 5 of 5

From the initial contact with the host Andy, all the way through to the end of our holiday, the experience has been wonderful. The location is perfect, with lovely sea views facing west and providing amazing sunsets. The BBQ in the garden was a great option on a warm evening. Meanwhile, inside the house all tastes were catered for, from the PlayStation and foosball table for the younger ones to the upstairs lounge for those wanting peace and quiet. Two lounges, four good sized bedrooms and a large kitchen/dining area make this perfect for a large family group.

But I must say that what made this holiday really special was the way that the friendly host Andy had prepared the house, with so many thoughtful and helpful touches. These included a huge bowl of fresh fruit, a large offering of luscious Scottish strawberries, boxes of chocolates and biscuits, coffee, milk, bread and everything needed for a comfortable arrival; even a welcome bottle of wine.

I can thoroughly recommend this holiday home; we all want to return as soon as we can!

Owner's Response: Hello George and warmest greetings from the Isle of Skye. MANY THANKS for such a kind review of 'Princes Point Villa'. We are so pleased you and the family enjoyed the house and made the most of your time here on Skye. Whilst Skye can't live up to Singapore sunshine and heat, it does always provide a dose of variety and interest that is typical of the Scottish Highlands & Islands. We hope you've taken home some great memories and will not leave it too long before reaching Skye's shores once again. Our thanks for staying and being such lovely guests. Very best regards, Andy. Magical gem in the North of Skye

  • 5 of 5

Group of 7 & 3 dogs return visit to this property. Since our last visit, there has been a number of improvements that have complemented and increased the magical appeal of this property.

On entrance the property was spotless! The owners take great pride in maintaining very high standards, there was a lovely welcome package including a large bowl of fruit a bottle of wine and some Scottish tablet not to mention a well-stocked kitchen, including condiments, stock cubes tea, coffee and milk etc.

The kitchen is well equipped and you are able to cook as if you were at home with all the necessary equipment.

There is a utility room and a toilet by the entrance door.

The dining table easily fits big groups or families and there is ample crockery and knives and forks etc.

From there you enter a snug which is equipped with a TV, PlayStation and comfy sofas, perfect for children and teenagers to have some down time after a long days walking.

You then go up half a flight of stairs to the lounge where the owners had spoilt us further with a box of chocolates. Here there are three large sofas which look out on to the most spectacular view through patio doors ( which have balcony railings) allowing you to open the doors and have the feeling of outdoors indoors, although there is a tv in this room it is much better suited for a glass of wine and family time or some quiet reading whilst enjoying the tranquil sunsets.

There is a master bedroom off the lounge which enjoys the same views, again stunningly presented with tea and coffee making facilities and an ensuite with a powerful shower!

The other bedrooms are located on the ground floor consisting of two twins and a room with bunk beds, with ample room & storage. All rooms have a view of the bay. All very clean and immaculately presented.

There is a bathroom downstairs which serves all three rooms and there is plenty of hot water!

The house is well equipped with walking books and maps and tourist information to help you plan your holiday.

Andy (the owner), from your initial booking, maintains good communication and is followed up with a welcome phone call, he is also available at any reasonable time to help out where possible. There is a welcome book which is superbly written and contains lots of helpful information.

The outside is well fenced and there is a great BBQ area which we did use and thoroughly enjoyed!

The property is well located for many walks, restaurants and attractions!

Coast/Beach:

The nearest sandy beach is at Camus Mor which is a 10 minute drive from Princes Point Villa. A slightly further drive (20 minutes) takes you to the magnificent broad sweep of Staffin Bay and sands. Both are lovely and they also have public slipways for boat launching.

Travel:

Princes Point Villa can be reached the Citylink bus services from both Inverness and Glasgow terminate at Uig.... to connect with the Calmac Outer Isles ferry. Once here, there is an excellent local bus service running daily (except Sundays) which will get you around Skye.

Princes Point Villa is about 250 miles (400km) from both Glasgow or Edinburgh and the car journey will sensibly take between 5 and 6 hours. Inverness is 120 miles (190km) distant and the drive takes about three hours.

Distances:

Uig Village & Ferry Port (shops, petrol, pubs & restaurants) - 2 miles.

Portree (the capital town of Skye) - 15 miles

Further Details:

Princes Point Villa is situated on the north-eastern peninsula of Skye - called Trotternish. We believe it to be the most beautiful part of the whole island..... it has everything!

The coastline is simply stunning from the broad sweep of sands at Staffin Bay to the dizzy heights of the famous cliffs at Kilt Rock. There is something to discover along almost every inch of the coastline and nearly all of it can be walked. The Rubha Hunish headland at Duntulm on the very northern tip of Skye is among the most beautiful and dramatic places in the whole of the british Isles. It's also a great place for whale watching!

The 'back-bone' of the peninsula is the Trotternish Ridge which runs from Portree to Duntulm in the north and can be walked for all of it's 20 miles. It is acclaimed as one of the best and most dramatic long walks in Britain. Along the Ridge is the famous rock pinnacle called the 'Old Man of Storr and then above Flodigarry, are the renowned pinnacles of the Quiraing Mountain.... featured in many movies including 'Highlander'.

So, the walking is just wonderful and almost unlimited..... dare we say......better than the Cuillins!

There is so much to do in Trotternish and so many ways to enjoy your Skye holiday. There are fascinating museums, famous Dinosaur finds and footprints, crofting community recreations, ruined castles, deserted mines and villages.... the list is endless and will keep you more than busy.

The two main villages are the ferry port of Uig and the crofting village of Staffin. Both are thriving little communities with pubs, restaurants, wee tea rooms and a warm Highland welcome! The award-winning ales of the Uig brewery are never far away.

You can hide away on deserted beaches, watch otters, eagles and dolphins.... take kayak or archery lessons at the Whitewave Outdoor Centre....or just relax in the wonderful peace and quiet that is this timeless and special part of our world.

If you are keen cyclists.... bring your bikes!
