About the Owner

Amar and I met way back in 1980 at university in Edinburgh. He went on to work in education and I went down the path of retail management. 15 years on we decided to work for ourselves and we left city life to build up a small hotel and restaurant in the Scottish Borders. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute (well, most of them anyway!) but 10 years, much renovation, 4 stars, several awards and 2 children later we knew we needed to move on. And so we set up home at Les Crouquets our 6 country holiday cottages. 10 years on we added La Tour de Genèbre, a stunning stone built holiday villa with its own private salt water pool in the next village, La Cassagne. Exactly how we came to arrive in this wonderful corner of rural France after spending a whole year searching, is another story altogether! Suffice to say that for us living here is a breath of fresh air - we are truly at home and we're sure you will be too. We look forward to sharing it with you soon!

Dordogne at its best

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful villa in a tranquill setting. Amar and Elena, have thought of every small detail; the villa is well equipped and beatifully decorated throughout. The outside area is a fantastic for the whole family, and offers the opportunity to entertain throughout the summer, late into the evening, whilst sampling the regions wines.

Nothing was too much trouble, and Amar and Elena will tend to your every need, if needed, even offering advice on local produce and tourist attractions, which we thoroughly enjoyed during our stay.

On our first night, as we had had a long journey, we had asked Amar to cook for us; his food is superb, and he was a fantastic host and excellent company.

We had hours of fun around the pool, and played table tennis, boule, darts and pool; which was great fun for the children and adults.

There was also a fantastic vegtable plot, which we were allowed to pick from everyday; it was great to have such fresh produce at hand.

We would definately visit again, and we came away fully relaxed and refreshed.

Thank you for a fantastic holiday,

Paul, Ness and Kate Chapman

Beautiful house, location and views

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd visit and we have booked again for next year already. The house is perfect for families, well equipped, and in a peaceful and tranquil location with beautiful views. The owners Amar & Elena are excellent hosts and live a few minutes away, so on hand when needed but discreet. The addition of air conditioning in the bedrooms was a godsend this year in the heat wave, The new summer kitchen is fantastic along with the games room with a pool table and the table tennis table. Pool heating has also been added, and the salt water pool is so much nicer than chlorinated pools. The vegetable garden is lovely with tomatoes of several varieties, french beans, courgettes and cucumbers. We would highly recommend this house and the area itself. There are lots of amazing places to visit and things to do.

It's good to know that the new additions were a success! Another ensuite bedroom is planned for 2017 and we are also working on an online information folder with lots of information about the area and a "what's on" section to help plan your stay. Thank you all once again et à l'année prochaine!

Exceptional experience all round

  • 5 of 5

This is an exceptional property in an idyllic setting, we had a fabulous stay here and couldn't recommend it highly enough. The whole property is exceptionally well appointed with every detail and need catered for which provided a great sense of home from home.

The kitchen was a kit in particular in our party due to the thorough thought that has gone into ensuring it is thoroughly and properly equipped with nothing left wanting.

Our group consisted of 3 small children and two sets of grandparents as well as myself and my wife; we had plenty of individual space and great communal areas.

We arrived late Sunday evening and Elena and Amar could not have been more welcoming or accommodating, they strike a wonderful balance of being on hand to help without ever feeling as though they were encroaching.

Something worth noting is how much nicer the salt water pool is over a chlorinated pool, everyone commented on this. (Amar makes for a great pool buy too!)

The area is wonderful to with lots to do for all ages and Elena and Amar were great and offering suggestions and advice.

I'd recommend this property to anyone looking for something special to spoil themselves with.

Owner's Response: Thank you Sam! We appreciate you taking the time to give us some feedback and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay at La Genèbre. We are pleased you liked the kitchen! Sometimes it's not easy to strike that happy balance between providing everything you think people will need and cluttering up the drawers and cupboards! We really enjoyed meeting you and your family and hope we may see you all again sometime in the future.Warm wishes to you all!

Amazing property in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

This is an absolutely stunning house set in an idyllic countryside location. The accommodation is huge but as there were only of two of us we only used the master bedroom and living area on the ground floor. The master bedroom alone was like a hotel suite with king size bed, sitting area, ensuite bathroom and walk in wardrobe. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is also a large separate utility room. The outside space is massive and very private, surrounded by walnut trees and wheat fields. The large terrace at the rear of the house is perfect for those relaxed barbecues stretching into the night over a few bottles of the local wine.

Amar and Elena are excellent hosts - on the night of our arrival we joined them for the Hunters' Dinner in the local village hall and later in the holiday spent a very enjoyable evening of golf and dinner at Les Croquets.

A car is essential to get to shops and restaurants but the house is centrally located for exploring the many beautiful towns and villages in the region.

Many thanks Amar and Elena - can't wait until our next visit!

Stunning villa......incredible value

  • 4 of 5

We booked a stay at la tour de genebre for a party of 8 which comprised of 6 adults and 2 children. None of us had visited the dordogne before and our expectations were quite low. We could not have been more wrong!! Upon arrival and seeing the villa the whole group were in complete awe of the property and the surroundings. All finishing touches had been carried out to a very high standard and this was matched by the warm welcome we received from Amar and Elena. The accommodation is beautiful and all rooms have been decorated tastefully with all the comforts of a warm home. Although the local amenities are really not that local it was never too much trouble to jump in the car and pop to Salignac or Sarlat for supermarket or a restaurant....the black duck in Salignac was a personal favourite of ours. Amar and Elena were great hosts and even invited us to take part in the inaugural golf tournament at les croquets. Amar claimed to be rubbish......he won!!

Reluctantly we have only given 4 stars due to the pool not being heated but this was only a problem for the faint hearted of us. All in all we can say that we had a brilliant holiday and are already contemplating our return next year. We would highly recommend to our family and friends that a stay here is well worth the drive and the money!!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write...we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay here! Due to reasons beyond our control we were unable to install pool heating for the first year but it will be heated for 2016 and maybe even before the end of this season if time allows. Looking forward to seeing you all again sometime in the future!
