About the Owner

Hello and thank you for looking at Butterlaw, our cottage situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) on the Somerset/Devon border.

Butterlaw sits within our 25 acre small-holding.

My husband, Andrew and I live on-site with two lovely children and share our home with (far too many!) animals including horses, dogs, cats, guinea pigs and three pet Kune Kune pigs! All are very friendly and in our company, visitors are welcome to fuss all the animals! Our pigs in particular, are always up for a tummy-tickle!

We are NOT a working farm, so life is pretty relaxed and low-key.

Our aim is to offer high quality accommodation, the chance to enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside and to be as flexible as possible with visitors' requirements.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I think the title sums it all up! The house occupies a wonderful location with stunning rural views. It is beautifully equipped and extremely comfortable . The owners are very welcoming and make you feel instantly relaxed - nothing is too much trouble. (The dogs, pigs and ponies are also very friendly!) Sadly we were only there for a weekend but we enjoyed beautiful walks (without having to get into our cars). I would definitely recommend this property.

Beautiful rural retreat

  • 5 of 5

Well maintained, well equipped, clean, comfortably furnished with a luxury touch through out, and quiet. Stunning sunset views from the garden room and plenty of space outside for our dog and children to play. Lovely, helpful owners and absolutely gorgeous visiting doggies Humbug and Pom and the kune kune pigs!

Beautiful area for walking and within 25 minutes drive to a beach with an abundance of dog friendly local pubs. Bliss!

The ages of our party ranged from 2 - 90.Therefore we needed somewhere very special to stay for our week end.We found it.On arrival we were greeted by the owner. who could not todo enough for us.within moments we all felt at home.

Our grand daughter went to see the horses and extremely friendly pigs whilst the grown ups unpacked the welcome hamper with great delight. The accommodation was excellent.with all needs catered for.Luxury with practicality.Everywhere sparkled.

We received excellent directions, the description of the .

property was accurate.

I have already recommended this property to a friend.

Stylish, secluded, safe and splendidly sumptuous

  • 5 of 5

Our Easter beak brought family together from Devon and Warwickshire - 6 in all including 2 grandsons. Butterlaw exceeded all expectations and comments in the guest visitor book endorsed every imaginable superlative. The weather played its part too and with a few more warm days the magnificent views across the combe from the conservatory will be even more spectacular as the countryside dresses for summer.

We were spoilt with a choice of rooms - all with warm and very comfortable beds, and a welcome basket that Fortnum and Mason would be hard pressed to better, Inside and out the comprehensive equipment and furnishings were top quality, and the only downside was closing the door to leave.!

We absolutely loved our stay at the cottage. Such beautiful surroundings. Luxury accommodation, loved the decor and loved the animals; particularly Pom Pom and Humbug. We really didn't want to leave and want to visit again. We also so appreciated the personal touches fresh scones and proseco: lovely. Thank you so much.

Butterlaw Cottage is an ideal country get-away, set in wonderful countryside. The cottage is very well appointed and equipped with everything you could need for your stay. The owners are extremely helpful, and their extended family of horses, dogs, pigs (yes pigs!) - are an added attraction.

This is an great venue for either a quiet relaxing break or for a family celebration.
