About the property

2 bed 2 bath penthouse on small site with the best views around!

The apartment has a large open plan kitchen/dining and living area with patio doors opening on to a large terrace with sunset views. The bedrooms (one with ensuite facilities) are at the back, shut off from the living area by a door so perfect for families with children who go to bed early. There is also a family bathroom next to the second bedroom. The apartment is situated right at the top end of the development 'away from it all' yet only a short walk to one of the communal pools, which is often completely empty, so you may have it all to yourselves. There is a shaded pergola there and sunbeds, cushions and parasols are provided. From the pool terrace, there are amazing views over the ravine and towards the sea. Even in the height of summer, there is always a refreshing breeze here. Our huge roof terrace has sunbeds for sunbathing and sofas to lounge on, as well as a dining table and a built-in BBQ for alfresco dining - and sea and mountain views to die for!

About Alison Hatcher

My name is Alison and my partner Eddie and I are currently living and working in North Cyprus, in the beautiful region of Esentepe. We have two apartments here, one above the other. We live downstairs and rent out the upstairs apartment with private roof terrace. Most holiday makers take comfort in the fact that the owners are nearby to help them with any problems that they have and to provide information and advice to ensure that they make the most of their holiday here. Why Alison Hatcher chose Kyrenia Region

Although Eddie was born in London, both his parents were originally from North Cyprus, so he bought this property as a holiday home to continue his ties with the place. I came out here in 2011 on a one way ticket, after being being made redundant back in the UK and splitting up with my partner of 17 years. A year later, Eddie decided to move out here after his divorce and we met in a bar in Esentepe in January 2012. We moved in together 6 months later and we love it here! After too many years of commuting in London, the slow pace here is bliss. It is a bit like going back in time 50 years. There is little or no crime, and the locals are very friendly. If you are used to UK prices, you will love how far your money goes here, with very favourable exchange rates.

What makes this apartment unique

Sunset Bay is a very quiet development. With two pools to choose from, it is never busy. In fact, you may even have the pool to yourself. As we are at the top of the site, we are even quieter than most. We are right on the edge of the mountains, and we can walk straight onto mountain tracks right from our doorstep and walk for miles without seeing another soul. Also, being on the edge of a ravine, we have better views than most. If you are a bird lover, then there are lots of varieties to watch swooping around. The huge roof terrace (guests have private use of this) with shaded pergola and built in BBQ is a real benefit. On a clear day you can see all the way along the coast towards Tatlisu. Really incredible views! If you want a truly peaceful holiday, then this is the place for you.

My niece and I arrived at the apartment late Monday afternoon. I was slightly nervous on the drive from the airport as it was my first time in Northern Cyprus and there is a huge amount of construction going on with numerous unfinished blocks; I had visions of battling through a building site and having taking a wrong turn into the block, I thought we would be spending the night in the car when the block we were looking for didn’t exist!

I needn’t have worried. When we did find the apartment (having read the instructions properly), we were met in the car park by the owners who were very welcoming and showed us to our apartment. It was spotlessly clean and well furnished with a well-stocked kitchen which thankfully included a dishwasher and washing machine as well as washing powder and dishwasher tablets which was most helpful. The ‘welcome pack’ had the essentials of life, including a rather decent chilled bottle of white wine.

In addition to a massive front room, two decent size bedrooms and two bathrooms, the apartment had a lovely terrace and access to a great roof garden with magnificent views of the mountains and the sea. The terrace was perfect for sunsets (and G&T’s). There are two swimming pools on site and the one we used seemed to be exclusive to us as we never saw anyone else in it. The owners said that no-one seemed to use it and they were absolutely right. It was a wonderful pool with great views of the mountains and sea and also the smell of pine and beautiful seasons red flowers made it an idyllic setting for a quick dip after the days adventures of mostly turtle conservation and sightseeing (my niece was doing her fourth year on the incredible turtle conservation project). The whole site itself was quiet and peaceful and it was a great place to relax and enjoy the fantastic weather and dramatic scenery.

The location of the apartment was great for sightseeing as you could drive east or west without too much effort. There is an abundance of decent restaurants within a short drive and also a local supermarket which stocks all the essentials of life.

In summary, a great apartment and actually much better than expected!

Notes on accommodation: We live in the apartment downstairs, so if there is anything you need that you don't have, we can help to provide it. Electricity, water and gas are included (limits apply). We also include a welcome pack of breakfast items at no extra cost. Outside: The whole development is bustling with colour in the spring and summer, with its well maintained gardens. There are two communal pools to choose from. The nearest to the apartment is the smaller of the two, but often completely empty, as everyone tends to use the larger one at the bottom of the site. Our roof terrace (private use) has a built in BBQ and shaded pergola with dining furniture. There are also sunbeds to lounge on, if you want total privacy. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Enough towels and bed linen are provided for the length of your stay. Please bring your own beach towels. Enjoyable relaxing 3 week stay

We have been to Kyrenia about 7 times always on the Lapta side, we decided to try Esentepe area, we looked at a number of apartments and decided on Alison and Eddies, we were not disappointed, the apartment is lovely and spacious, well kept with everything you need for your stay, the balcony was large it

was shaded and breezy in a morning great for early morning cup of tea and breakfast whilst watching the birds in the hollow, especially the large blue/turquoise one (still don't know what it was). The roof top terrace was big and good for sunbathing and lovely views, although it could do with some shade.we used the pool often and we had it to ourselves,the beautiful gardens were very well kept, the site was quite, the people we met were very friendly.

The apartment is close to Tempo supermarket, which sells everything you need, there are a number of good restaurant within 5-10 minuets drive, a car is essential.. The location is ideal for exploring the pan handle and Famagusta areas.

Alison organised taxi from airport and car hire,it's comforting to know Alison and Eddie are downstairs if needed, the are both very friendly and helpful.

We stayed for 3 weeks and had a very enjoyable relaxing holiday we hope to return one day, we would defiantly recommend Sunset Bay which lived up to its name, beautiful sunset every night.

A very enjoyable stay

This was our first trip to North Cyprus and after some research we selected Alison & Eddie's apartment for it's location and the appeal of their site details. We were not disappointed because in all round terms we were very satisfied because we found everything that we needed to make our holiday enjoyable in the apartment, which is well equipped and has lovely, elevated views of the coast.

The beaches are nearby as are numerous places to eat or enjoy a drink and we found them all very welcoming. Kyrenia is 1/2 hour away and we were easily able to explore most of the north during our stay. We would have no hesitation in recommending the apartment to couples and small families.

Special interest holidays:

Keen walkers can walk straight into the mountains, right from our doorstep. Between November and April is the perfect time for walking in the mountains, as daytime temperatures are still warm, but not too hot. February/March/April is the season for spotting stunning wild orchids along the way. We can provide mapped routes for you to follow. We also have mountain bikes for the guests to use.

Coast/Beach:

The nearest sandy beach with facilities is only 5 minutes away. There are many beautiful beaches within a short drive away, including the famous Alagadi turtle beaches, about 15 mins away towards Kyrenia. There is also a beach club at the nearby Korineum golf club, 15 mins away. Further away to the East are the best beaches of all in the Karpas peninsula, just over an hour away, but well worth the effort.

Travel:

We are only 45 mins from Ercan airport in the North, and 1 hour from Larnaca in the South and 2.5 hours from Paphos in the South. We can arrange airport transfers for you as well as car hire. Please note that you cannot drive a hire car over the border from the South, due to insurance restrictions, but taxis can pass easily.

Distances:

The nearest supermarket is just 5 mins drive away. The nearest village with amenities is Esentepe, about 12 mins drive away. Kyrenia (Girne is its Turkish name) is 40 mins drive away and Famagusta (Gazi Magusa) is about the same in the other direction. Kantara castle is 20-30 mins drive away. The Karpas peninsula (the 'pan handle of Cyprus') is 1 hour's drive.

Further Details:

You can walk to a small minimarket and bar from the apartment in 5 mins. There is a larger supermarket only 5 mins drive away and many good bars and restaurants within 10 mins drive. We can tell you the best ones to go to!
