The mellow terracotta coloured Beachside Studios stand back from the beach itself in a magnificent and quiet location with Mount Ainos National Park behind and Sissia Monastery to the south. They were built 15 years ago by Diona and Spiros Kamilatou and are surrounded by the family's own fruit and vegetable gardens where aubergines, figs, lemons, cucumbers and tomatoes flourish together with bourgainvillea, passion-flower and French marigolds.

A few minutes level-walk along the beach-side road there are excellent local tavernas, bars and two mini-markets and yet more villagers' gardens with bananas, courgettes and citrus trees growing.

In the summer-months a local mini-bus takes visitors to larger supermarkets, bakers and butchers in the neighbouring villages of Lourdata and Vlahata and also to the sandy beaches at Kanali and Trapezaki Bay.This is why we feel renting a car is not essential unless you are keen sightseers.

About Diona

My name is Diona Kamilatou and I enjoy helping guests experience Greek hospitality!

I was born in the village and have lived in Lourdata all my life.

My husband, Spiros, can often be seen in the garden. Lourdata enjoys it's own micro-climate. There are many small gardens and allotments along the sea-shore and that is what makes our village unique on the island. The soil here is very fertile and we grow everything we need for the table including aubergines, courgettes, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, figs and lemons.

I look forward to welcoming you to Kefalonia and to this very special seaside village of Lourdas (Lourdata).

A great holiday in lovely accomodation

  • 4 of 5

We absolutely loved Lourdata/Lourdas Beach. The beach on the south side is stony, take some beach shoes, but becomes sandy at the north end. The apartments are basic but all we wanted, we were able to prepare breakfast, others were cooking lunch and dinner, and we had a large fridge for all we wanted to keep cold. The large ceiling fan kept us cool enough but the aircon was useful on the hotter days. Web were met by Graham, and he explained where everything was, and one of the lovely ladies presented us with some tomatoes fresh for the garden. We had a balcony and despite being on the ground floor were able to see the sea and beach. Sun beds are available on the beach either side of the apartments, for €6, but Diona supplies a few free beds and brollys if preferred. We ate in all, bar one, of the tavernas and did not have a bad meal in any of them. As said the apartments are basic, but they were cleaned the towels and bed linen changed every other day, and the bins every day. If you are looking for a quiet base by the beach, with lovely sunsets and a nice clean apartment I would definitely us Diona's Beachside Studios.

Excellent property in very good location

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a very restful and enjoyable holiday in Diona's Beachside Studios. The studios are in an excellent location a stone's throw away from a very good beach. The apartments are a good size and kept very clean on a regular basis. Sheets and towels are changed every 2/3 days also the bins are emptied at the same time. Diona and Spiros are lovely and did everything they could to make our stay the best it could be. There are only a few tavernas on the beach front but more can be reached if you can make a steep hill. The food is wonderful wherever you eat. I would recommend this accommodation to anyone, although if you like to explore or want a more lively centre, you will need a car.

Suited us perfectly

  • 5 of 5

We spent 10 days at Diona's and would love to have spent longer. The apartment was everything that it said on the website, clean and well-maintained, and had all that we needed. It was perfectly situated - close to the beach, plenty of tavernas and a mini-supermarket. (A larger supermarket can be found up the hill in the neighbouring town and there is a minibus that runs to and from Lourdas if you don't want to do the uphill walk.)

You won't need a car unless you want to visit the rest of the island.

We felt that Lourdas itself offered the perfect balance of facilities and local charm without being touristy and overpriced. We had good service and food in all the tavernas and staff were all really welcoming.

Diona and Graham looked after us very well, all our questions or queries were dealt with, and help given beyond what would generally be expected. I cannot fault the hospitality that we received, thank you to both of them.

Simply Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Where to begin? This is a place of pure tranquillity. The location is perfect - super close to the beautiful beach. The room, although simple has everything you could need - Diona has given careful consideration to everything you may need to make you comfortable - even down to putting pegs on the washing lines on the balcony for you to dry your towells etc! The room was clean and presentable and Diona came each day to change my bin as she knew I was cooking for myself and perhaps creating a bit more rubbish than most.

Diona was wonderful - it's true she speaks little English but the language of friendship, warmth and kindness needs no words!

As I was a lone traveller for the first time, I felt Diona,Graham and even Dionas friends made me feel truly welcome and cared for, but also respected my privacy as they knew I was happy in my own company. One of my favourite afternoons after being 'rained off' from the beach was spent having coffee and chatting under the vines with Diona, Marina (check out her gorgeous hotel too - Eagles Nest), Bebe and 'Dennis' (I send my love to you all)

The village is very small with a little mini market for basic needs but there is a larger supermarket in a nearby village where they come and collect you by car, take you to their shop, return you and even help you carry your shopping to your room! The information for this will be in your welcome pack on arrival. I mostly cooked for myself and found everything I needed to do so in the room - I would often sit on the balcony to eat as I watched the sun setting, listening to the sea gently lapping the sand - bliss.

On arrival there is a generous welcome pack - my eating habits are quite irregular, but after mentioning this to Graham, they adapted the pack especially for me - allowing me not to worry about immediate shopping needs at all - very thoughtful and much appreciated. Nothing is too much trouble for them!

I ate fresh fish at the restaurant right at the end of the beach (apologies for not knowing it's name) and it was divine - worth the walk to it for sure.

We had a few crazy storms whilst I was there and had rain most days (along with lots of sunshine) so it's incredible for me (as a self confessed 'sun worshipper')to say that this has got to be one of my most favourite holidays! The rain most certainly didn't put a dampener on it at all.

Would I recommend this property to a loved one? In a heart beat - and circumstances permitting I will be back again next year!

These studios are clean and reasonably well equipped!! Fantastic welcome pack so even if you arrive late you needn't worry about having an empty fridge!! Klematis taverna was one of our favourites!! We would certainly recommend Beach side studios!

Owner's Response: Thank you Carol and Peter for your review. We take your point about "reasonably well equipped" and are improving matters as I write. As for the welcome pack I'm proud to say I recommended the beer and wine! All the best from Graham, with Diona and Spiros Kamilatou

A peaceful, relaxing location

  • 4 of 5

10 days of bliss. The studios so close to the beach and facilities.

An excellent choice of restaurants within walking distance, all very friendly and most welcoming.

Our studio was on the 1st floor, we had breakfast every morning on our balcony looking out to the clear blue ocean in glorious sunshine.

Dionisia, the owner maintained her studios to a high standard and was most helpful in seeing to the needs of all her guests.

We had fresh eggs delivered one day.

The studios, very clean and comfortable.

It was a great holiday and hopefully we will be back in the future.
