By a stream with ducks and a wooden bridge!

Brook House is 17th century, and has a delightful position overlooking the stream, where ducks waddle too and fro all day long. There is a lovely cottage garden to the front of the cottage, with some of the very old -fashioned roses still there. It is a comfortable and well-maintained and tastefully furnished property with all modern facilities (recent new bathrooms!)

About Alison Trafford

I have lived here at picturesque Bassenthwaite for "many years"

and have enjoyed meeting guests from all over the world. I am a farmer's wife, so have had to learn to "juggle" many roles as well as looking after grand children and elderly parents over the years.

I still enjoy this way of life, and although I do not have many holidays, I feel the world comes to me, and as long as I am fit and well to do so, I will continue my very rewarding job.

I take great pride in having my cottages clean and comfortable with good facilities, and always put my guests first.

Why Alison Trafford chose Keswick & North Lakes

These cottages are close to our farm and therefore I am on hand to give advice to our guests if required, and guide them on their chosen route for the day. They are in a most picturesque setting "By a stream with ducks". The ducks are a great attraction as they waddle too and fro from farm to stream and most days guests can let the ducks out of their shed at 10am and help collect the eggs when they are laying (usually March to October).

We hatch new ducklings about twice or three times a year, and have lambing time in February/March/April, which is very exciting(and hard work), but our guests just love watching it all happen. A real farm experience especially in the Springtime at lambing time as lambing is in the barns on the farmstead. However, the cottage is separate to the farm so if animals are not your thing, you would hardly notice the farm.

What makes this house unique

A real countryside experience with a slower pace of life . Relaxed atmosphere - great place for chilling out and where children are free to run about safely (leaving the phones and computers behind!) although we do have WIFI !! Freedom for children to play good old fashioned games, skimming stones, building dams building camps playing pooh sticks, and cricket and football on the village green.

Brook House 1 is a delightful homely clean cottage ideal for weekend or weekly holidays, family/friend get-to-gethers but also for a couples retreat to a quiet corner of the Lake District, which is still only 15 mins away from the Lake District Attractions. Local Inn just a short stroll up the riverside for a good meal and drinks. The mountains, fells, and country lanes just on your doorstep, where you can either do an energetic climb and walk, or just potter around the country lanes at a much slower pace, taking in all the delightful scenery. Alternatively, you can just relax and unwind by the stream or in the garden, or by a lovely log fire.

Booking Notes:
On making a firm booking, we need email confirmation followed by a cheque for deposit or card payment can be accepted in some cases. We would also need your contact phone number, and full address. Full payment to be made either in instalments (check with owner) approx. 6 weeks beforehand.

Changeover Day:
Mainly Saturday change-over in high season (school hols), but Friday and Monday changeovers for weekend and mid week breaks. We are flexible on this - please ask.

Notes on prices:
We are flexible on dates and pricing. i.e. if there are fewer than 10 people in a large cottage for 10, we will reduce the price. We have an especially good offer on Brook House if only 2-4 people wish to rent it. Just call us to discuss further . Weekends are popular, so we can not reduce this too much, however,we offer good rates for mid week breaks.
