Tranquil, serene location - absolutely lovely

Lovely cottage in a tranquil, serene location surrounded by beautiful scenery but just minutes from the amenities of town. Well equipped and delightful hosts. Thanks also Ellen for the extra toys you arranged for our boys, they were perfect. Highly recommended, we hope to come back!

Activity and Interests

Applethwaite is only a 10 minute drive from the Keswick Launch on Derwent Water. There you can cruise around the lake, may be stopping off at Lodore Hotel in Borrowdale, where day passes for the terraced outdoor pool can be purchased... Or you can hire rowing boats and take a picnic to one of the islands were landing is permitted...

Applethwaite is one mile north of Keswick on the lower slopes of Skiddaw. Very easy to access being only a 20 to 30 minute drive from Junction 40 of the M6. There is also a very good direct bus service (X4 or X5) from Penrith mainline railway station to Keswick.

Keswick is approx 1 mile away.

  • Notes on accommodation: Many guests return each year, some several times a year. The key attraction is our fantastic location and the views. Many footpaths in the Skiddaw and Latrigg area are easily accessible. The setting is rural and peaceful. Yet, access to Keswick with its Booths & Coop supermarkets, leisure pool (wave machine and flumes), pubs, bars, restaurants is a convenient less than 5 minute drive away. Suitable for families or couples sharing. The dining kitchen and lounge are on the ground floor. On the 1st floor are the three bedrooms and family bathroom. Access to the garden is either via the front door down a few steps, or via the back door from the dining kitchen. Outside: The house is surrounded by a beautifully kept, lawned, wrap around garden, with an abundance of perennial boarders. There is a dining table and chairs with parasol for shade. A barbecue is also provided. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The house is cleaned and beds are made up with fresh linen ahead of each set of guests. Bath towels are available upon request, a small extra charge will be made to cover laundry costs.
